    As someone who loves open-world and exploration I've always been very torn on ER's take on it. Largely because I feel the enormous size kinda waters down the exquisite From world design we're used to. Look forward to seeing your take on it!

      I definitely agree, and thank you! Video is still in script form until I'm sure I can hit on all of the points I want to fairly well

    Tbh I’m kinda still hoping for an AOW version of Eternal Darkness, even if it were assigned to a shield like Thop’s. Blue Bloodtinge gets so much good stuff, even the stuff that’s good at countering Blue Bloodtinge itself!
    Also yes thanks for reminding me how funny it is that people complain about ganks at meta. Yes, I also wish ganks were less stupid and unfun to fight - but if there’s any level intended for gankers, it’s pretty much gonna be meta.
    And if you don’t like ER no matter the level, hit da bricks!! DS3 is still alive and still fun as all hell! And 2023 is chock full of other good games to play. Ones that have functional multiplayer, even. The future is now, red man!

      There comes a time where a lot of people in the community need to take their lil invader mindset hats off for a sec and reavluate what they're doing from a broader or I guess more analytical view. Part of that is analyzing the ranges you invade and what you're looking for in an invasion, but also like if you're having fun with the game that you play the most.
      And if not there are so many interesting games out there and we're kinda in the Golden Age of Souls-likes right now. I know you were a big fan of Thymesia, there's also Lies of P and the new Remnant sequel all launching. But even from a PvP perspective there's more games implementing invasions, with Wo Long having invasions and soon Lords of the Fallen.
      I guess what I'm saying is don't be afraid to hit da bricks and branch out to a new experience. You of all ppl don't need this advice but I thought I'd leave it in the comments anways

    We should start the HealthyRedMen subreddit. Gathering all the souls who see the toxicity of useless angry posting. Also, since I’m one of those sweaty, sometimes meta invading try-hards, nice soft swap at around 10:00 nerd
    🤓❤️
    Love the blue bloodtinge arc.

      LOL I like the HealthyRedMen sub idea, however, I don't like the idea of it being on reddit. I'd be happy to host it on almost any other platform except probably 4chan

    6:57 I took that advice a long time ago. I wish I could like it, but I don't. I don't like it at all. Not even a little.
    However, I still enjoy watching videos from people like Rofo and I still enjoy other activities as well as the occasional DS3.

    Rot pot users gonna be macro-dosing quarters next time I see those mfs in the streets (of leyndell) 💪😤
    A sidenote: I absolutely agree, in fact I think the worst possible things to happen for this game would be if Fromsoft came out and said "hey guys, we listened to your (the duelist scene) feedback and we changed everything so it's DS3 pvp again"
    I love this game, and there are certainly things I don't like about it, but it's my favorite nonetheless. I stopped playing when I didn't like it, and when I had the energy, I tried again until I figured out how to enjoy this game as much as I do now ☀️

      Behold, a "healthy attitude enjoyer".
      I definitely think there are some big overhauls that would make this game more enjoyable, but honestly I really loved what they did in 1.09 by buffing a ton of R2s. From here on out I really would love more reasons to use Axes, Flails and Hammers etc.

    You questioned the open worldness of Elden Ring. Thank you. I have been questioning this a lot for the past year.
    Did we need open world souls? It sounds like we have a lot of the same thoughts and some of the same conclusions.

    • @RofoTheGyrm
      @RofoTheGyrm  Год назад +4

      If we needed open world souls, we needed an updated multiplayer experience to match it, and we really just got the same mechanics as before slapped onto an open world that doesn't accommodate those mechanics in the slightest.

    My subreddit is currently in the edgy emo stage, it will pass

    • @Felicificity
      @Felicificity Год назад +1

      Not to cast doubt on your claim, but do you really believe that? I jumped on the badredman sub at ER’s launch and it’s been basically the same complaints on that sub for over a year now. What do you expect will change?
      Most of us doubt that Fromsoft will rework PvP to the extent that it will silence the complainers - so either we wait for the game to die down so only the megafans post online, or something needs to change with the sub’s content rules/guidelines. Is that something that is being considered, or are you just saying things will get better without a concrete plan to get things there?
      Again, not trying to hate, I just think that the ball is in two courts: Fromsoft’s, and yours. And I kinda assume Fromsoft won’t play ball, so it’s really in your court.

    • @Felicificity
      @Felicificity Год назад +1

      Also I kinda almost feel like the sub has become a dedicated venting space for complaints, which is valid I guess but it does kinda make it seem impossible for this “emo phase” to really pass. After all, there’ll always be stuff to complain about with invasions, esp in ER

    • @RofoTheGyrm
      @RofoTheGyrm  Год назад

      Well I guess if it does I'll never know, I deleted reddit off my phone a week ago and have noticed a vast improvement in my time management as of late.
      But I do kinda agree with Fel here, I felt like the top post every week was a vent post and spent most of my time on the sub getting in arguments with other invaders, which idk, I feel just isn't a great use of my time

    Fully agreed, Elden Ring simply is what it is, and on some level we need to accept that. Sometimes it can be a downright torturous experience to take part in, and when that happens we need to seriously ask ourselves what we can do to change our experience for the better (up to and including just doing something else)
    Thanks for the ramblings! They are much appreciated.

      I've just found that moderation is always key for this game. This game has a habit of overdoing it in almost every aspect, and so microdosing it in enjoyable chunks has definitely been the way to go for me at least.
      And thank you as always for hosting at Volcano Manor!

    idk who you are, but i have to say that i share some thoughts as you said in this video, elden ring is what it is and the more we can expect from FS is to get some balance changes and more content in the future, even tho i'm still mad that they didn't changed even a bit their netcode, we have been playing with it for years and it's still dumb as always.
    ah yeah, i'm also playing a lv 90 +17/+7 character and i've been liking the invasions.

    On the topic of DS3, I really don't understand where this post-cluelessness about DS3's stale PvP has been coming from. I've seen people call it the "Tekken of DS PvP" in sweatlord stream circles, and talk up and down about how it's the most skill intensive. But if you go back and watch any DS3 PvP at a high level it's just a minute of footsies, and trading. With nothing but 40/40 builds hotswapping to 5 different meta weapons and glitch "tech". It's boring as shit.
    There's zero build diversity in 3, little gameplay expression due to how polarizing hyper armor is in that game, and as much as people really like to call Elden Ring; L2 Ring, it's not really any different in DS3. I feel like people forgot all about the Twin UGS's and the 3-hit BKG spin. Every time I hear someone talk about DS3's PvP being the best in the series I can only imagine Jeenine/Scott Jund LARP'ers pretending they're "tournament" level players to moonlight being good.

  • @AkosKovacs.Author.Musician
    @AkosKovacs.Author.Musician Год назад

    So, r/badredman is just Jeenine if he would be subreddit?
    Anyway, the Open World of ER is very bipolar experience to me. On one hand when you are playing the game blind for the first, the second, or even the third time, making new builds in the first 3-4 months, it is quite refreshing because of the non-linear "Fuck around and find out" feel still persist.
    But when you are an invader you realize that you have one of your biggest advantages has been hampered that is the strategical use of the level. DS3 had very linear, very closed levels (which hurt re-playability) but they were easily recognizable, so you could easily recall the chokepoints and enemies; whilst In ER, lot's of the legacy dungeons are inter-changeable and the enemies are often very widely positioned with comperatively small aggro range and short chase window.

    • @RofoTheGyrm
      @RofoTheGyrm  Год назад +1

      Yeah those are my thoughts on the open world as well. Being able to go almost anywhere and grab any piece of gear you want initially sounds fantastic, but after a couple of playthroughs it all ends up feeling like you're running errands to pick up everything instead of a grand journey so to speak.
      And then a lack of a level to play with in the open world as an invader is so often incredibly debilitating, so often you have no option but to turn and run

    I wanted to like ER as much as I loved the Souls series. The PvE is far superior, but the PvP is not as fun to me. I've spent more time back in DkS3 than I have ER since the release of the latter. To be fair we only bitch about the games we love. If we didn't care it would be just another game in our library. Low Level PvP is always the answer tho.

    • @RofoTheGyrm
      @RofoTheGyrm  Год назад

      Low level PVP is it's own mixed bag for sure, but I have been enjoying it a lot lately as well, next video is likely going to be on fairly low level PVP.
      I will say though that I think the long time we all spent with DS3 ended up making things worse for ER. I feel like everyone pinned all of their hopes and dreams of changes to DS3 onto ER and then ER was never even trying to be that. I get not liking the game at all, I still don't like how there are large swathes of weapons that are just not usable in PVP, but it does have it's merits.
