I've been playing this game consistently for 10+ years at this point. It has its pros and cons, for sure, and not everyone is gonna love it. Getting started now-a-days is much easier than it used to be (check out the scenarios from the main screen). The main thing that I see many new players fail to do is to make the mental jump into a game that doesn't baby you with zero penalty for the mistakes. In Space Engineers, if you crash your ship that you just spent the last hour building and tweaking .... its gone unless you have saved a backup. Set your autosave down to 15 minutes and go have fun.
I'm thinking about buying it since its on sale. I'm not off put by "hard" games but I'm not really interested in the survival aspect of the game. Does it have simulation aspects like X4? Like building station, automating stuff, fighting wars etc? I wanted something like x4 but with more freedom!
@@diogopinto6039 There is a Machinima RUclipsr called Splitsie that puts the game in its best light, in my opinion. There is also "Captain Jack", and numerous others. For combat, I generally follow "TheXPGamers" or "LastStandGamers". For coverage of Space Engineer's updates I generally follow "Zer0's Legion" on RUclips. Splitsie does have a number of early game tutorials, which for some might be counter to the spirit of self-discovery. X4 and Space Engineers may sound very similar on paper, but they are very different in execution. Both games have "apples" in their description, but one has "red apples" and the other has "green apples", you may like one or the other, or both. What X4 focuses on simulating (e.g. "universe"?) isn't necessarily what Space Engineers focuses on simulating (e.g. "physics"). The gameplay elements are balanced very differently. Station building, automating stuff, fighting wars, etc., are different enough to almost be considered radically different.
This video doesnt really sound like it's describing space engineers tbh, the game is INCREDIBLY easy but with horrible tutorials that still make it difficult to learn. The best description for this game is probably "Space minecraft". Structural integrity is none existent as stress/strain arent modelled. Thruster balance is non-existent unless you play modded, all thrusters apply their thrust to the subgrid's center of mass, you also mention "spinning out", this can only happen if you don't have a gyro, it's literally 1 block, hardly a complex engineering challenge to place (my first ship did spin uncontrollably cos it was missing a gyro but that's down to the lack of a good tutorial not complex mechanics)
@@marcoflumino you mean the video tutorials you have to leave the game for? I was referring to the tutorial scenario as that’s what most of the new players interact with and I still lose focus following after 2000 hours
I have 13,000hrs in Space Engineers on STEAM and I'm not done by far. SE is a one of a kind experience and when you want to change things around there are literally about half a million mods that can add or change almost anything you can think of (hence me having all those hours chalked up).

Creative? Yea. And mod support. You can also change Gamemode and adjust certain settings like how much volume a Container can hold. The game is old tho, I recommend realy looking up quality of life mods
Truthfully Space Engineers is a game where you Basically choose your style of play.. ex: I play space engineers on both survival and creative to make massive wars and create drones that’ll respawn and continue to attack to the players around the area. Or I just play to build my next ship and hope it’ll be good. I just wish there was players that would love to play my server on survival
the devs are releasing a new content update for it somewhat soon-ish likely Q-1 or Q-2 of next year if I had to guess, and it just received a content related update a few months ago, so devs are still active in its improvement. It's very moddable and there is a lot of replayability regardless of if you buy the DLC packs. (I'm basing this off of PC where I have over 1000 hours in game, I've never played it on console, if it's even available on console, I actually don't know.)
I have space engineers on my xbox. It has mods but they aren't that great since they aren't from the steam workshop. At least the soon to come PVE updates should make the base game more interesting.
