- Get ready to declutter your life! I am so excited to be continuing this Whole House Declutter series!! This is episode 4, where I am decluttering in our garage, (we already decluttered our home offices, guest bedroom, kitchen & closet), and today we're getting our garage clean & organized, as well as beginning the first steps of yard sale prep! We're clearing out the clutter and making room for a more peaceful home :) As we continue this decluttering journey into the new year, I'll be going through each room in our house & decluttering all the things that we no longer need or use - I'll also be sharing several tips that I've learned from a book I've been reading {linked below} as well as tips I've learned myself from decluttering over the years! I've always had this fear of becoming a hoarder since my grandmother was a really extreme one & it carried over to my Dad. Every six months since I was a teenager I started getting rid of any clothes in my closet that I haven't worn at least once according to that season. I would go through all my drawers & my desk to dump out, donate or reorganize my things. It makes me feel so refreshed & it stops the out of sight, out of mind habit. Sleeping in a fresh clean space just hits different. 😊😌🫶
Wow I thought the garage gave a big breath of relief when that door opened. The before and after I simply couldn't get over it. What a big difference. I must say this video really shows how much you and Kyle can do when working together. The boys are really going to do well with the yard sale. Thanks for such a energy focusing video. Love how the garage looks after all that work. What a pay off..must be a huge relief for you. I figured you have those birds for a important reason. A distraction to other birds, or animals I'm guessing.

Garages can be so overwhelming to clean when they have a large accumulation of items. Totally agree to focus on decluttering first and organization as a follow-up project. Thanks for the motivation and keeping it real!
I've been struggling with my garage ever since my husband passed away in 2015. I am slowly getting it done but it's taking some time. He was a mechanic and going through his things brings back loads of good memories. Thank you for the motivation ❤😊

When I was a kid, we attended an outdoor church camp and I remember an owl being up above. I was always looking at it instead of listening to the lesson, wondering why it was there.😁 Seems I asked and was told it was keeping birds from making nests? Love the garage transformation. We would break our necks if we went into our garage 🤭

The owls help keep the pigeons away. Another great video. When you have cabinets, it's easy to just put stuff in them with the intention that you'll go back thru them but then stuff just gets "lost" in them (at least that has happened to me...lol).

I can't believe it's been 2yrs since moving in to your home! Aren't the owls for keeping out birds and small animals? I love watching all your videos. Gives me the motivation and push on decluttering my house. We also live in Arizona and use those owls to help keep un-wanted birds away. Also, I have been searching high and low for a dresser like the one you have in your garage. I have a similar one I use for myself but I've been looking for one for my husband. I love these older dressers so if you ever decide to sell it I would love to buy it. I like the old look of them. Y'all are such great motivation. God bless you and your beautiful family!

“Just start”! I definitely need to keep this in the forefront of my mind. I get so frustrated, and then quit, or put off doing anything else, because I’m not always sure where to begin that will create maximum satisfaction/impact but that also won’t create another mess. I always get mad at myself because I feel I have to be perfect with everything I do - definitely have OCD issues going on! 😊. Another of my problems is that I need to get the items I’m donating out of the house instead of letting them pile up. Thanks for another inspiring decluttering video!
I am re-watching this as part of the decluttering playlist and I just realized that I have a workshop (12 by 14 shed) that looks like this garage. We moved into this house just over a year ago and the previous owner left a lot of tools, wood and additional odds & ends that never got decluttered or even organized. It is my hubby's domain, so I am leaving it to him, but I hate looking at it when I am out there with him ;-)
It must feel so good to get the garage decluttered and organized. I am like you, I lose motivation but the final push afterwards makes it worth it. Then I wondered why it took me so long to tackle a space? The garage for me will have to wait until Spring/Summer. It's too cold now. Thank you for sharing.

Our garage has needed a clear out for years. Our trash pick up doesn't do recycle bins so I have to pack it all in the car and take it in...but I end up with a little bit of "mad money". Doing that tomorrow and then I can get to all the Christmas decorations. So this next week I really want to organize the garage and your video has given me the motivation I need. I'm even going to take a before picture so my husband can see the difference...we have separate sides and he needs to go thru his stuff 💜💙💚💛🧡

Great job and it's so inspiring to see a marriage in action. Now it's time to clear out the storage unit and take that monthly bill off of the plate. More to add to the yardsale pile. So, the question is: can your holiday bins fit on top of the cabinets without impacting the garage door infrastructure? And, how do you remember what is where in the cabinets? Is your Cricut coming out? Hahaha, yep, just adding to your to-do pile. 🙂

We just finished cleaning out our garage. Want to bring in some exercise equipment. Only took us 8 years. Lol OK, I think the owls deter critters in the yard when gardening or protecting fruit trees. We have one. Wow, I really love all the cabinets in your space. Keeps things hidden rather than shelves. Nice decluttering video 😊

They are both lovely Art Deco style pieces, which happen to be my favourite style 💗
I just have one mantra when it comes to decluttering and organising…..a space for everything….. and space around that place. There is nothing more frustrating than looking for something that’s hidden behind other stuff. I need to be able to open a door and see what I’m looking for. If I don’t have space then something has to go.

I LOVE the idea of the expiration date. genius idea! I am going to be dealing with my craft room in the next couple of weeks and this is going to be a game changer! I think the owls are to keep the birds out of your balcony/porch areas. The garage looks amazing and I am sure it feels good to have that area done!
You did an awesome job! I’m in love and covet those cabinets you have along the walls. My husband passed away last year, so I’ve been trying to declutter and organize. I did out garage this past summer by myself. Filled a 5 cubic foot dumpster with trash, pulled everything out and power washed the inside, and then organized. After putting almost everything away I realized I need a shed for all the garden stuff. That’s what is taking up all the space. Next spring. You two working together was a wonderful thing to see. Have you ever considered making an inventory of items you have stored in the kitchen and garage that you can refer to when you think you need to go out and buy something you don't remember that you already have? You could indicate where seldom-used items are being stored.

My hubby is in charge of the garage so I never put anything in there (except empty boxes that he eventually burns). Its been an "unspoken" since we got married 40+ yrs ago. I think I would hate to clean the garage....LOL
We had owls at one time too, we used them to scare away crows and cardinals. The cardinals would fight their reflections in my window and on my car. They totally destroyed the paint job on my vehicle. The owls worked...and they have not come back since. We battled them for 2 years

way to go the garage is fantastic. I love all the cupboards for storage all the way around. We have a single car garage but are blessed with 3 cars. we store an old convertible in it and use it in the summer months! it is so much fun to own. I taught my son n law how to drive standard and he and my daughter love to borrow it for a weekend or night out. We live 40 minutes from them. We would share it more often if they lived around the corner . They have two little girls who can't ride iin it yet for safety reasons and the law. So our storage at the end of the garage would benefit from shallow depth cupboards with the shelves being closer together. I would love one of those tool organizers that are usually red. My husband isn't into tools too much but the ones we have gathered over our 45 years of marriage could really benefit from that kind of organization. we store our off season clothes in our basement and we do have a shed. We have to squeeze the snow blower in the winter at the front of the garage door as we get snow here in Ontario in the winter months.

Your garage cabinets are great!!! Keeps the garage even more organized! We did the same thing with our boys when they were young and let them keep the proceeds for items sold at a garage sale. We also let them keep the money from recycling cans and bottles. Great job!
What a transformation! Love all the storage you have! We have an owl to keep birds, mainly starlings away. Getting ready to declutter old and not used Christmas items tomorrow...I've been saying this for the past few years.👍
