    DR Doolin..... Great idea, had to get gearbox out of the tr6 and made a frame up after watching your video. Just the job......

    Man that top dropped all on its own. Nice TR6. Love to have one someday soon. I can't slow time down so it gotta be within the next year. Love these cars.

    Replaced my TR6 seat bolts with Clevis pins to make removal easier. Emergency hood release a great idea, saved my ass a few times. Yeah, I was getting too old for fixing her so we had a divorce after 31 1/2 years and I’m getting on with a Jaguar F-Type now just fine…

    Yes Doc, we're all getting a bit old and inflexible to be working up under dashboards, how do you manage to see anything in that position. Tip:- a step drill is the best thing to drill body steel, you just keep stepping through the hole till you get the size required, and it doesn't dig in.
    But there's no substitute for experience, you've done that a few times.

      You don't actually think I can see anything under there do you. Must admit it's definitely a bit cramped. To think I used to manage that without taking the seat out. I have never tried a Step drill at your suggestion I shall do so.

    This happens. I pulled the measurements off another TR6.
    They make an extra opening cable kit for the right hand side. So when the left hand side cable fails you have a backup. It cost about $12 and if it happens to you, the minute you get your next TR6.
    You buy The Back-up opener kit.
    Moss has them. Rock on.

    P.S. You want to get a rubber plug that seals that hole when you're done.

    Just be very careful with the metal bar as you are right near the positive battery terminal.

      Fitting a length of Shrink tube would solve that worry

    You make here a big mistake: you don`t swear ;) ! It helps a lot. After 10x in and out ( can`t reach a tool, measurement trials of any kind, you wife is calling you and can not understand why you can not just leave the job and continue some time later, etc. ) it`s time for a bit yoga and at least one beer. Thank you for the instruction

    A drill with a cable attached, you don't see many of them on RUclips.
    I'm guessing the downvote was from someone who sells batteries for cordless tools.

    You could have had it up on the lift, stripped out the pipes and starter, taped up the live wires and popped that bonnet in half the time you messed around doing a dead fly!

    • @Dr-Doolincom
      @Dr-Doolincom  4 года назад +1

      Most guys that watch this video will not have a hoist. To remove the front pipes from a TR6 is not easy on Axle stands or a hoist. The front pipe has to be separated from the exhaust, you can not drop the exhaust complete. The connection of the front pipe is fastened with u-bolt type exhaust clamps that set a ridge in both pipes, very bad if over tightened which they usually are. There is not room to twist or work the pipes apart easily. If you get them apart, when you put them back together you more than likely will have an exhaust leak. Then dealing with the front pipe to manifold will usually take heat to undo the manifold nuts to prevent snapping the studs. Breaking a stud require removing the manifold to remove the broken stud. The starter is fairly straight forward to remove.
      But why don't you just disconnect the battery instead of "taping up the wires" think that comment shows your actual experience.

    • @tomcollier2444
      @tomcollier2444 4 года назад

      @@Dr-Doolincom I didn't say disconnect the battery, show me where I said that! I said tape up the live wires. Oh, and don't lecture me on dismantling a tr6 exhaust system, it's not that difficult even on ramps and or axle stands. Done it dozens of times. Sure beats the hell out of vandalising the bulkhead drilling holes in it. Just shows your level of experience and competence, which is clearly as bad as tour ability to read what others actually write!

      @@tomcollier2444 Why don't we do this, you go back to fixing your rust free TR6 and I'll continue repairing Brit cars that spend half their life in inclement weather as I have done for the last 50 yrs or so. I don't need a reply by the way.
