TOP TEN TIPS:

1. Have a clean, uncluttered background.
2. Wear makeup, but keep it basic (eyebrow pencil, mascara, bronzer, lipstick with some color)

3. Keep hair simple, ideally away and off your face.
4. Good lighting is the key to a good video experience, Soft, direct light that is in front of you (and not yellow) is what you want.

5, It’s all about the angles. Camera lens should be set at the same height as your hairline so you’re looking slightly upward.
6. Keep your distance from the camera, but don’t go too far! Fill the frame.
7. When in doubt, wear solids, avoid stripes and tiny patterns. Wear something comfortable!
8. Invest in good sound if you can.

These are great examples for folks that have a big house or a lot of control over their setup...not so much for those of us (me) that rent apartments that have bad natural light, no overhead lights in any rooms, and yellow walls lol.
I just had to comment!! You did such a phenomenal job. Here we are still in this pandemic situation and I am finally fed up with seeing myself on a Zoom meeting/call looking like a dark dot! I don't normally wear makeup but I will now. And I am 63 yrs young so you can imagine at the point in your video where I laughed the loudest...you were so correct!! Thank you very much for the tips and for sharing. I'm buying one of those ring lights lol. Be Blessed!!

Very helpful tips! They actually all helped. Was looking for the answer whether to use natural light or not and you answered it plus the tip about the background light and the type of bulb with the lamp was key. Great tips! Doing a test run will calm your nerves and log in 5-10 early to make sure you can connect with no issues. My biggest tip is use your mute button unless speaking to the group.

I noticed on the camera that I have glare on my glasses from the window. Anyway to get rid of the glare on glasses?
That's tricky-you can try angling the light source or the camera.

I'm filming on more of a professional camera and the lens I'm using gives the blurred background. It's a Canon f 1.8/50 mm lens.
