Asia has some of the scariest and freakiest creatures of mythology. My family is from the Philippines, and the elders always talk about the "Aswang"(they feed on corpses, fetuses, and small children) and the "Manananggal" (vampire-like creature that can separate from their torsos so they can feed on the living) 😱
Jiangshi are a lot like the early vampire lore of Eastern Europe(except for the hopping part). Before Bram Stroker's Dracula novel,Eastern European lore was that a vampire was like a rotting walking corpse that drank the blood of the living. Also vampires did not turn into bats,Stroker added that in his novel for effect.
Satisfied a curiosity, sir. I knew of hopping vampires but had zero details. What's the deal with garlic? That's at least 2 vampire legends recommending the bulb. General belief that pungent herbs repel more than an after dinner kiss?
Ahh thanks Leigh - so garlic is interesting, and quite a modern addition - so say it's the Allicin in garlic which is a antibiotic, and some medieval Europeans believed that vampires were created by a blood disease.
@@MystOfMythology Makes sense. Garlic and other stinky herbs are often recommended for all kinds of "cleansing" both mundane and arcane. Thought it was just a Western thing tho. Thank you for all the very interesting content you create. Learn something new every time.😊
Another fear that appears to be globally shared. The reanimate dead. Actually, the hopping part reminds me of Spring Heeled Jack from Victorian England. Very interesting. Thank you!!
I got an idea for you. Abandon the myth thing. Read the bound and the broken, be the first channel to dive into the lore of that before everyone reads it and it becomes the most popular TV show since game of thrones. You'll thank me. Together, we rule youtube! MWHAHAHA 😂
Okay… On a scale of 1 (damn)… to 5 (wow, you MUST be Chinese!) How is the pronunciation?

Omg that’s scary! 😱
Sometimes I wonder for some reason what would it be like to live in that era
Ok, when did the Jiangshi become so popular again? I haven't seen this many videos on it since I was maybe 4 or 5
I was thinking the same thing 🤣
This video is so much better than PBS’ monstrum! Ummm they literally posted it after yours! Just saying! Haha 😜
