- How I fixed the blue smoke at start up and oil consumption I had with my 2005 GMC Sierra. Chevrolet Silverado similar and mostly all General Motors LS motors.

After soaking it in fuel, I inserted my garden hose sprayer in the big hole and cranked the pressure. All clean and flowing.
Just did an AFM/DOD repair and had the valve covers cleaned and heads redone while off. Did not have the smoke issue prior to repair but OMG... smoked like a freight train when reassembled on startup. I do applaud the video as I pulled the cover, quickly found garbage under the "baffle" and the hole was totally blocked and after two cans of brake clean and drilling the extra hole, all is well. Great job. I'm wondering why some videos discourage drilling new holes and suggest a whole quart of ATF in oil.
My 05 Yukon 5.3L never burned oil till I started driving more and idling in the winter time last year.
is now blowing out a quart per month. It's not visible. I just switched to synthetic. 200k miles. Engine sounds like new.
I'm going to remove covers and drill it & Drill the PCV larger
Just did the SAME EXACT THING! Full DOD delete and everything else, and smoked like a CHIMNEY for about 2 miles mostly on Decel. Then I prayed to JESUS and it completely stopped! Thank the Lord!

this fix works on all the ol skool motors,if your still blowing blue smoke then it could be a range of other,simple problems, before deciding on an engine tear down.

I added a catch can to the top of that valve cover to the holes and I got rid of a lot of oil too, good to add!

The correct way to deal with PCV on any engine especially performance apps is to measure the crankcase pressure and set the crankcase pressure. Wet sump engines require 1.5" to 3" Hg of crankcase pressure for all conditions to prevent sludge buildup and oil aspiration.
Interesting, this a very common issue on these engines.
@@bikermike If you'd like an example In my channel is a 5.3 turbo application 600rwhp where I measure the crankcase pressure diy how-to in the video step by step using any map sensor. It is not ideal method but anybody can get any map sensor and do it , easily accessible method to all. An engine is a vacuum pump and can draw the crankcase down into a vacuum if done properly. Depending how the engine aspirates it may require a few percent of power, turbos acting as kinetic energy pumping systems reduce the PCV costs to negligible but because of the vacuum signal required from the engine air filter to pull on the crankcase at wide open throttle the natural aspirated applications give up a few percent of power when the PCV systems are setup properly like OEM design.

My 05 yukon 5.3L 200k miles. Runs like new but uses more oil since I'm driving more in winter and idling more( With exception of many different electrical issues 😦)

This past weekend replaced the cover on my 2012 ppv tahoe 5.3, but I noticed that I had already the updated cover, my problem is little weird, no cold start smoke, no hight rpm's smoke, but when Im going down a hill just iddling when acelerate back trow bunch of smoke (blue), but after that no smoke. Untill iddle againg for like 10 seconds

I have a 2013 with the new style cover. It consumed some oil so I drilled the holes in a brand new cover I bought. It more than doubled my consumption from half a quart every 3000 to more than a quart in 2300 miles. I cleaned and put the old cover back on. Went through 3 cans of Brake clean to clean the old one. So yea, the holes just made mine worse.
Maybe another issue, is the vent tube dry from oil?
@@bikermike The vent tube was dripping with oil when I put the original valve cover back on. It was literally drinking the oil out of the engine with drilling those holes in my case.
@@watchnlearn1001 mine was a 2005 so I can’t say for sure what your issue is. Maybe ther is way you can divert the oil in a catch can? There is a lot of videos on that? Sorry dude! Can’t really say for sure on the 2013s

Drilled hole right at the Rockers. So OIL is being picked up directly off the Spray. Holes have to be where Rockers are NOT
What size drill bit you use for the holes you drilled
i dont feel it really matters...10mm should be fine tho.

I recently bought a Silverado 02 and mine does the same thing when start up blue smoke comes and also when I’m at the stop and take off it does the same thing can this the issue as well?
Mine only did it at start up.
you have to do it on the 2 covers?
You definitely can if you want but the other side vents towards the front and it is higher up so the oil doesn't get sucked in that side as bad. Mine has been fine since.
I put a new one on and I still have the same problem what could it be?
If there is no oil in that line I show in video then it would be an unrelated problem… checked for a cracked cylinder head by watching my video on that. If not that, could be valve seals or worn rings in engine.

Would this also lead to oil in the muffler or do you think I have something else in my hands ?
I would start by checking this first, mine didn't cause that issue though.Simple check of that vent line.
@@bikermike yea because it's been like a month since the oil change and it's already like at the second mark on the dip stick but it doesn't throw like a bunch of blue smoke only when starting
Did you replaced the gasket?
I did but you may or may not need to. Depends on the condition of it. They are rubber.

I don’t remember exactly but think it was close to same width as the factory drain holes

🤣 these Canadians! Wtf. Spend 40 on an updated after market valve cover delivered the next day. He didn’t spend any money. Becides 20$ in brake cleaner and wasted 3 hours of cleaning. Now he made new holes and messed up his air flow in there. 🤦♂️
it didnt fix my 5.3 or 6.2
If there is no oil in the pvc tube then it won’t be the problem.
