As a 20yr tractor trailer driver, I see a MAJOR concern with an app like Roadie. The problem I see is that the trips, no matter how well they pay, do not have any back-hauls. Using your example of the $33.46 trip for 53 minutes/42miles, that trip is ACTUALLY going to pay $33.46 for 84 miles! Since I dont see this app offering a paying "back-haul" you are dead-heading those miles back to your area. I dont see this as worth it at all sorry.

This is the same problems with all of the apps, that I have seen - the high payouts are for long distance away from the main delivery area to somewhere that either isn't covered by the app or there are no businesses for people to order from in those areas.

I am a homeless entrepreneur. I have been such for over 3 years. Getting introduced to Roadie recently has saved me from hunger, not having gas and has given me hope without begging(which I am TERRIBLE at) I cant tell you how many days I sat in my car hungry and petrified of rejection to ask for help. So I say…👍 Roadie. I’m just learning the ins and outs but feel safer and happier than I would with delivery “competition” . I am able to be free and work on rebooting my businesses. Knowing I have this freedom is good. HOWEVER…😳They are REALLY hard to get on the phone in a pinch. The Q&A is ok but SOMETIMES I need a human.

I had a good batch of orders last week on roadie. I managed to get 15 Walmart express orders at once going the same direction. I drove 30 miles for 15 stops and that took 2 hours, the pay for that total was $220. As each individual order payed $10-$20. Unfortunately this is the first time I have ever gotten that many gigs at once. There are rarely that many posted.

In the past year or so Roadie has changed their fee structure. They use a lot of bundling so they'll combine several orders with one gig. The problem with that is they'll post the gig (with multiple delivery addresses) and show a decent fee but the dollar/mile is weak. Deliveries with Best Buy do this all the time now. Drivers see a gig paying $45, for example, but there will be several items that need to be delivered so distance is maybe 100 miles. This example would pay the driver .45 cents / mile. If you have a pickup truck like I do the cost to run is maybe .20 cents / mile. .20 cents X 100 miles is $20 for gas alone so the driver keeps $25 and that doesn't account for taxes and wear & tear (and might take 90 mins to 2 hours to complete). Something to consider when driving for Roadie. I'm delivering far fewer gigs these days because Roadie is less profitable for drivers.

Correct. I would double those expenses just for maintenance. Plus taxes and other expenses as you mentioned. Maintenance is also roughly $0.20 per mile unless you’re 100% DIY.
I multi app food delivery and drive 200 miles per day, 5 days per week. I almost 100% DIY maintenance and have 2 old corollas. Even still, my gas and maintenance is around $1,100/mo. This doesn’t include taxes and other expenses!! Like a replacement car, etc. etc. I save approximately $500 off about $800 for maintenance. Making it the $1,100 rather than what would truly be $1,600+.
And it’s not easy. Not easy on your body. Stretching and body maintenance is also REQUIRED!

    1) 4-star rating is very fair, considering some people have a slip of the thumb at times and you can't undo it
    2) Yes, you can do something in that 15-minute wait time, even if your offer gets accepted right away. Because they grant you 15 minutes to start your gig once it's accepted.

The trick also with Roadie you can select multiple gigs at a time like today I clicked on 3 gigs and was accepted for all them and Roadie automatically routed them, of the pick ups and drop offs it was great. Also while on the app and doing a delivery , you can go back to the map and try to accept something while in route to another delivery, that way you are not wasting time to deliver to see if you are accepted, just really have to muti task, or if you are waiting at a pickup , you can go back to the map and choose another gig.

If it was me, I'd probably pay attention to the Dollars Per Mile AND the hourly rate as well. THEY BOTH MATTER!!!! Yes, you're making some great points and I TOTALLY agree with the $25 per hour assessment. I also agree with the $1.75 per mile assessment and like you would actually shoot for $2 to $3 per mile. In my opinion, I don't like their business model and how they make you wait for a response because TIME IS MONEY and that's probably why I haven't done anything on Roadie even though I'm registered with them. I've been in Trucking in the past and their offers at times don't make DOLLARS OR SENSE!!!!

  • @TheoSakoutis
    @TheoSakoutis Год назад +6

Great video, thanks for posting. Higher dollar per mile is not always better than lower dollar per mile, all other factors being equal. A lower dollar per mile often correlates to more highway mileage, less city. This generally correlates to higher fuel efficiency, less wear and tear on the vehicle, and less stress. If I am offered a choice between a run with 10 stops in the city, vs 1 stop with more highway miles with the same $/Hr rate, I tend to favor the highway run even though the dollar per mile will be less. All this further complicates the driver's algorithm..

  • @kristahackleylmt2064
    @kristahackleylmt2064 11 месяцев назад +8

No one seems to calculate in the gas and maintenance. All these apps are designed to favor the business not the driver. When its all said and done, the logistic teams on these apps state the average driver makes between 3-5$/hour.
For people that aren't business minded, they are fooled to believe they are killin it.. rakin in the dough. Statistics and logistics say otherwise.

It was good to see someone finally give an accurate accounting of what to expect when delivering with Roadie. It's exactly as what I've experienced. Average-to-low pay, and lengthy time frames in which to decide on what action to take. I absolutely think the 15-minute window is a deal breaker for me unless I'm committing only to delivering with Roadie. I tend to stay away from delivering with them, as they've burned me in the past over a delivery payment that they owed and never paid. It was only $8, but it's the principle of the matter that counts. It was the worst experience I've ever had with customer service. This was before UPS acquired them, so maybe I'll be more trusting of them now. Thanks for another informative video.

Why I don't bother with Roadie anymore:
The store often doesn't understand the system, so it can take a long time to pick up the order. (45 minutes in one case.) Or I get there, and the order was canceled.
They sent me to pick up a pharmaceutical order at a residence (I thought maybe it was a specimen to be delivered to a lab or something), but it was a mistake. I tried contacting support, but they took forever to get back to me.
For me, Roadie isn't worth the time and hassle, especially when you have to wait to see if you even get each gig and then plan around it.

I’ve been on with Roadie for about a year. Their support is being abysmal. It makes Uber support look like five star service.
Example: I Daisy chained a few Roadie gigs on a Saturday. The final gig turned out to be too large for my vehicle, customers fault.
I spent 38 minutes on hold to get someone who then had to call Tractor Supply to prove I wasn’t lying. Once verified she was going to pay me a $4 cancellation fee and escalated the trip to someone else who could remove me from the gig.
Over 45 minutes later Iv was still assigned the gig. I gave up and canceled it myself.
Roadie themselves gave me a 1 star review for canceling the trip after arriving at the customer.
I flew off the handle and Roadie corrected the review. But they made it very clear that the correction was a one time thing and was only a courtesy.
Its ok as long as nothing goes wrong. As soon as itv does you’re beyond screwed.

I’m a roadie driver with over 10k dollars made, 500+ five star reviews and I’ve got nearly every badge possible. I drive a duramax dually and I normally only do the larger gigs. I also use a trailer sometimes because there is a trailer certification you can get through roadie. I only work 4-5 hours a day and make quite a good amount. What they say isn’t super accurate because you normally are accepted within a minute or two, and not only that but you can apply for multiple gigs at once and do tons of orders all at once, also you can accept gigs while doing another gig so once you finish one you will have another waiting for you right after. I live in a small town and I see the same drivers every day every morning and we all compete for orders. I think that roadie divides the money fairly and allows us all to easily make deliveries how ever it might not be worth it in some small towns because of competition and there could be no orders at all. So I do agree with you it’s a filler app, but it can easily be a full time app if you live in Atlanta, Houston, Orlando, or any big city.

I've been doing Roadie for a bit, and in a good market (Dallas), but it looks like your market in Philly pays better. Average pay here is about .60-.80/mile, with the exception of the prescription, and Walmart orders. Also, the " huge " gigs pay more, but honestly not that great. Just saw one for $67, and wanted 2 people to deliver furniture, upstairs. Also, you have to factor in the wait times for quite a few of these gigs. While most get you out within 20 minutes, some can take much longer. My best day was a little over $200, just strictly doing Walmart orders, but sadly, those have died off, bigtime. I'm with you, a decent filler app, but I definitely wouldn't recommend it for any fulltime work, besides the week before Thanksgiving and Christmas. The app is easy to use for sure. There's been a huge influx of drivers sign up, so you're going to have a little harder of a time getting gigs. I've noticed a few other observations, but, I don't need to be writing a book on here! Happy New Year!

I started driving for Roadie earlier this year and it started off slow but in my last 6 weeks I have had four $1000 weeks. I sometimes drive 1 1/2 hours to get to a gig but only if there are a few that I can do together and make a couple hundred dollars. I'm taking a chance driving there because I might not get selected for the gig. So far it has worked out but you have to be careful. Sometimes there are duplicate orders and you end up making 1/2 of what you were expecting. I delivered a door the other day and it was the wrong size so I got paid to return it to Home Depot. $50 for the delivery and $50 for the return. Not bad for a 2 mile gig. Lowe's recently started using Roadie but I have only seen a few gigs pop up from there.

CVS pick ups really helps your money go up quick! i get like $8-10 for 2-4 miles trips then go back to CVS for another pick up, repeat for 3 hours and end up making $90. Morning runs are the key!

It's funny you uploaded this video today, I was thinking about all that luggage at the airports, so I Googled luggage delivery and Roadie came up, I downloaded and tried it today, the airport deliveries looked ridiculous like .60 a mile plus dealing with the airport, I did do 1 Home Depot and 7 Best Buy orders which both were ready and organized $65 total for 3 hours, I believe one thing it will underperform on is tips, I don't think ppl will tip much coming from these businesses and left at the door, also noticed the Offer system is sketchy, I tried to offer on 2 ay once which made sense logistically, but it rejected 1 of 2 and it made it no value, so I canceled, I'll try again, it seems the Best Buy orders come in at open time 10:00 am so it works for a jump off into Dashing lunch

Sure the app says 53 minutes but it could end up longer which would throw your $25/hr. out the window. I think I’d go just by mileage because that’s set in stone and not gonna change

Payouts have decreased and Roadie is denying expense reimbursements more often using delivery start time (in their default ET) against time stamp on the ticket, especially on tickets generated in a time zone west of ET...such tickets are not being converted to ET, making it look like the expense was incurred prior to starting delivery.

But I’ll keep the app in case I see something on the way somewhere else. I’ve been laid off for 7 1/2 months and I’m out of unemployment so I am cobbling together a bunch of these side hustle apps.

If you’re still not aware of the last few ideas you brought up about how many gigs one would receive if the driver has 5 stars, 4 badges, 500 gigs and 10,000 miles driven, if the algorithm would choose that driver over someone who doesn’t take their position as seriously, no, I am not chosen and I have to pass many gigs that are sitting close to me, even to the point of having to drive to different states to get the gig.
I have noticed however, Roadie does shortchange drivers substantially out here closer to the coast as I see the pay out for similar gigs in, say Pittsburg pay double what they pay in Philadelphia. I was putting nearly 500 miles on my car in a day and yes the maintenance or cost of repairs almost evens out over the long run. I have tried and tried for this company, thinking there would be light at the end of the tunnel; there’s not! No one at Roadie cares about dedicated drivers sacrificing their time, effort, gas for the better good of this company, so I too have learned the hard way, the same thing you said about this niche.
I appreciate what you do here and hopefully, I get a hold of your other videos, to learn further.

  • @ianberry5879

Downloaded, registered, haven't done any gigs yet. All of the gigs are 20-30 minutes away, with a required delivery time, a required pickup time that would exceed the time it takes to get there unless you live 5 minutes from the pickup location, and rarely much more than $1 per mile for the delivery, not to mention the 10-20 miles just to get to the pickup site. I mean I get that the app isn't going to work the same in the rural/suburban areas as it would in a huge city, but trying to make any money in this area is a joke, especially with the ludicrous selection process. Hopefully Goshare and Frayt will improve the parameters of timing and availability, make it worth driving an hour to the built up city area where most of the orders are, but on Roadie it's all $9 payments for a 30 mile drive for small parcels, not Tractor Supply or Lowes deliveries.

Roadie should be used only for large suvs up from 5am-2pm and/or in multi-apping. If you have a really gas efficient med size suv, in a decent market, you should be able to easily make $200-300 in 7-8 hours during the hours mentioned above. In a decent market, it’s was the best app in early 2023. It’s the truest IC app. I’m a 7 year full-time highly rated gig worker in a med market in Ohio.
SN: The whole statement about waiting 15 min doesn’t seem relevant and not true to reality. An experienced multi-apper relishes an app like Roadie. After you do get accepted, you usually have approx 30 min to an hour to arrive at pu, except for prescriptions…
