I am 63 and have ridden since 1979! I have had it in my blood all these many years and it will stay with me forever! Riding a motorcycle is a spiritual thing and gives so much relief from stress and anxiety of which life throws at us from time to time. Unlike a car, it is a way of seeing and feeling the world around me, observing beautiful countryside, feeling the breeze on my face from the life giving air. I will only stop when the good lord calls me! ♥

I'm 46 and just bought my first bike. I didn't really know why apart from feeling like I needed an outlet in my life outside of working all the time. Plus it was fun to joke with my wife that I was having a mid-life crisis. It's been the best thing I've done for myself in a long time. When I'm riding my focus is on what's right in front of me instead of the constant monkey-mind churning about work and everything I need to be doing. I'm absolutely loving it.

I've been very dissappointed with people lately, cut off toxic friends, break-up, and ended up feeling very lonely. My feelings built up. I went and got my motorcycle license and bought a bike. There's no better liberating feeling than getting on and stepping on the gas on a straight-away. Therapeutic. Sometimes I feel like just pressing the gas and going into oblivion to never return. But I know there's people who still care about me here. Life is a struggle just keep fighting.

A few years back I went through something similar, coming back to civilian life from the army while cutting off toxic friends and a manipulative ex, all while struggling with untreated depression and anxiety related to PTSD. The loneliness really felt like too much sometimes, but I always made sure I spent as much time on two wheels as possible. No doubt that it saved my life. I am 56 as I am writing this.
I gota say..... What took yall so long!!!
There has been many times throughout my existence that 2 wheeled transport has saved my life.
Pedal or motor it doesn't matter. It is the getting out of your head and into the world.
Now that being said ...Winter sux bad, so I snowshoe when the weather won't let me ride anymore.
Ya gota figer out yer own way out of your head.
Anyone reading this that is thinking about getting a bike.
Don't wait, do it now, time goes fast and before ya know it it has past and you dont have the time anymore.
This video tends to make you think that riding is the only therapeutic action on a motorcycle.
it is not, there is cleaning and polishing ...Maintenance and repair.
I think all the these things are very zen and helpful.
find your passion and follow it.

I became incredibly unwell in 2011 because all I did was work work work, I also had a horrific childhood and the stress trauma caught up and nearly killed me as I had removed all my pleasures simply for work and money, I ended up in hospital several times for endless tests, including at the Priory outpatient for 4 years, it took 8 years to recover. Around 2008 I had stopped riding my old Harley. I’ve ridden motorcycles for pleasure all my life but stopped because of business and making money, my psychiatrist told me never give up the things you love as they are a pressure release like a pressure cooker which if you stop the release the cooker will explode, once I could function around 2013 I went out on the old Harley it was like Heaven. Now fully recovered I ride regularly mainly on my own I actually grin like a Cheshire Cat or laugh while riding the old Harley fat boy. It’s not about money or work anymore. Enjoy your life and good luck.

I got my full ticket when I was 32. My marriage broke down the same year, I left University and gave up on my dreams and my future. I'd had enough. Way down there in the pit of depression and wrestling with every demon I had the choice to ride, and my bike kept me alive. There is no doubt that it also enabled my self destructive bent somewhat, but I loved what it gave me and the and friends I made. Riding kept me here. And I bought more bikes and tried new things and my focus went from misery and the next destructive bent to becoming the best damn rider I could be, and helping others be better riders too.

35yo Just bought a ‘74 CB360 and I can’t explain the feeling of riding. Knowing that it’s just me and the bike working together. I think that’s what we want most in life honestly but we’re not good at saying it, or doing it a lot of times. Riding a motorcycle fulfills this innate instinct. After years of not chasing my dreams I have felt much of my drive and hopes in all the things I had dreamt and desired for my personal life fade away in the past two years. I saved some money and even though my wife wasn’t fully on board, and being slightly nervous of the real risks and dangers of riding, I fulfilled my desire to buy and ride my first motorcycle. I feel a spark of life each time I get on it. It’s early October and I ride every chance I get. Maybe it’ll help the rest of me catch up. I also will start substitute teaching this fall, a step toward one of my interests, helping kids along in life.

its about $300, you get your license on the 3rd day, you get 10% your insurance for the rest of your life
and it will keep you from dropping your bike or getting hit by someone else - paying for itself a hundred times over
you will enjoy riding far more when you know how to totally and precisely control your bike, and know all the risks that you face and exactly HOW to deal with them all.

You've chosen the right size bike. I've been riding since I was 16 and I'm now 61. I've had around 15 bikes. BMW, Norton, Kawasaki, Suzuki, Yamaha, etc. All the way up to 900cc. Next month I'm buying a 150cc bike. It will be my last bike, until I can't ride any more. Many people think to ride is to ride fast. I have found that the most enjoyable speed for me is around 50 to 60 kph. That's when I feel the ride and am not worried about anything. Enjoy your ride and stay safe. Greetings from Iran

With life's ups & downs, twists & turns, getting back on the 2 wheels has helped. It was first when I was 22 that I caught the bug, riding. Then a long hiatus before reaching 76 y.o. that I again started to ride. The more miles I put down, the more new friends I find with the same understanding of what 'wind therapy' really is, opens your eyes. Not everyone's pain is the same, but the passage of time, finding new places & friends has definitely made a difference, slow but sure. Loss takes an immense toll, friends who listen, maybe share the same interests, as in motorcycling, can ease things a little bit at a time. Depression is real, but light at the end of a tunnel is also real and gets brighter as we keep going forward. My good friends keep reminding me - Don't give up.

Back home now and I continue to get out on the bike - its the only real thing (for me) that focus's the mind, puts me in the right place and helps so much with mental health. Anyone suffering - live in the moment and get out on the roads, trails and the beautiful outdoors

Motorcycling is the best outlet for the male mind I have ever found. I have riden since I was 14 (now coming up on 60), and if you want to totally relax your mind, forget all the stresses of life, family, work, etc. and just _zone out,_ biking is one of the easiest and accessible ways available.
Next best thing? Riding with your kids (pillion). Next, next, best thing? Riding with your kids as fellow bikers!

This just popped up so I gave it a watch...moving in deed. Perhaps because it touches the consciousness of us motorcyclist's. If we have a bike & the stuff in life get's on top of us, then it's a release. I totally relate to the quote in ''Zen & the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance'' by author Robert M Pirsig :
    ''Philosophy of Riding a Motorcycle''...
On a cycle the frame is gone. You're completely in contact with it all. You're in the scene, not just watching it anymore, and the sense of presence is overwhelming. The whole experience, is never removed from immediate consciousness.

Then, I finally got my motorcycle license and permission from dad to use his bikes when I go out to meet friends, or go to school. Sometimes, it feels like indulging in that hobby is time wasted that I could've spent improving our thesis, so that commute riding along the skyway does wonders to relieve the pressure.

I could have chosen a relationship that ended in debt and disaster.

I chose a Yamaha motor scooter with a humble 155cc capacity as I physically could not mount a proper motorcycle.

Just got back from a 3200 mile ride across 10 states in 5 days, I can honestly say, it does improve my mental health… I had been just hooked on staring at my phone and seeing the bad news on TV and RUclips, in the last couple years I lost my grandpa, my older brother and a friend, I had felt stuck in a rut and sort of trapped in my head. I felt great to get out, I don’t usually hike or camp, but just seeing the scenery the way you see it on a bike and smelling the world and the freshness in the morning and the distraction of the challenges on the road for that many miles, it was a good stress relief, it also felt freeing. That’s why I started riding to begin with when I was 20 and I haven’t stopped for 150,000+ miles and 13 years. Even a commute to work is better on the bike.

Some of my most therapeutic moments in life have come from motorcycle rides. Learning to ride on the back streets behind a dealership and then getting my first motorcycle wave on the way home. Riding through the NC mountains for a week with a tent and saddlebags and no agenda. Anchorage to Homer with a fishing pole and back four days later than planned because my beach-camping neighbors kept firing up one more fish fry. There's something about the wind in your face that clears the head, and the places it takes you can't be reached by any other means.

been riding most of my life...my body is 61, my BM is my horse and my family know it as that... i feel there is something archetypal about a man on a horse and a man [yup, or woman] on a bike...it seems to connect with and satisfy something really really deep in me... words don't convey how i feel about riding out on my own...
sometimes, i just want to be with me ...
and i go for a ride...
a long road with slow gentle curves i can flow along, gets me back to myself every time...
its like no other therapy that's out there... pilots probably feel some thing very similar...you know...your life is completely in your own hands, no wife, no kids, no anybody else...whatever decision I take ...whatever way I move my body, adjust my weight...the consequences are pretty close on my bike...i am choosing every instant...its absolute responsibility, and i love it... i respect it... a dear friend, long gone, he died at speed...i still think about him...warren, where are you now my friend... i still miss you.. fond memories so many others...too many...all gone in a moment.
wherever i ride, i exercise..becoming super alert... and relaxed...its not that i think all drivers are fools, but i do treat them as if they could readily do something thinking i'm not there... i call it "prudent caution"...
it keeps me sensitive, receptive and sane...like i said...its like no other therapy out there.
when i see you on out there the road, i'll always greet you with a nod ....you probably feeling just like me🙏😁
