      The Savage Garage I work at VW/Skoda. Some Cars I did oil changes on had up to three o rings still in there. Most oft them startend to leak from the filter. So always check. I spotted it right away :D

      Geez I heard you had trolls but SERIOUSLY looks like half the comments are from clueless highschool students. "I think it's a diesel because the oil is black and I can't see the coil packs". Yeah. Never seen an oil change yet WITHOUT black oil. And you don't always see the coil over plug type coils because they're usually under a cover.

    Remember, remove the filler cap first, or a vacuum air lock will develop inside the engine as it drains, retaining some if the dirty oil inside.

    When the old engine oil has reached the point of dripping, its worth flushing some new engine oil through by adding it to the oil filler opening, to completely get rid of the old stuff and put the sump bolt in when this new oil is just dripping.

    Shout out to dad! Well done, you learnt a lot. The manual in the car usually tells how much oil the car takes, just go to the data page on capacity, it tells everything from oil, coolant, alignment reading range. Good to see you happy and using your grand tools.

    That looked so easy. Makes you wonder why anyone would pay a garage to do an oil and filter change especially on easily accessible locations like they are on that Skoda. Good video. If it gets too hot again while you’re wearing your overalls just tie the arms around your waist.

    Personal Suggestion !!
    VW Audi group car owners should contact there local TPS store for any VAG car parts. Specially service kit and manufacture recommended Quantum long life fully synthetic engine oils.
    In price comparison with GSF car parts or Euro-carParts they’re only few pounds extra as it’s always worth spending little extra for OEM parts and peace of mind.

    • @OffGridInvestor

      Except all the aftermarket parts for all these European cars have better quality plastic than the OEM. What I have seen from aftermarket oil filters I fully agree though.

    For anyone wondering how much oil to put in their car after an oil change it usually says in the user manual or most car oil manufacture websites you can put your reg in and it will tell you how much oil you need, the correct oil viscosity and oil spec . Castrol and Shell do.

    If you need to know how much oil you need for the car, Euro car parts put the amount in the fitment details. I have never seen this before, but the reg number for the Skoda and the 5w 30 shell oil came back with the following......Other Information Cap 2.8 ltr, Cap 3.6 ltr. I have never seen this before where 2 oil levels have been quoted. Anyway, I use their oil level guide for other makes and they haven't got one wrong yet!! Hope this helps.

    The colour of that oil was shocking for a petrol car, looks like it hasn't been changed for a long time. If it also has a turbo the owner is asking for trouble. My Leon TDI has the oil filter on the top of the engine. I use a Pela vacuum oil extractor though the dipstick hole, so much easier than getting under the car.

    • @GuyRWood
      @GuyRWood 6 лет назад

    You have double sealed the oil filter by leaving the old seal in the housing. This causes the oil pressure to drop and cause damage to the engine and most likely the chain. You need to remove that seal ASPA!!

    • @TheSavageGarage

    Those overalls are looking good. It is a bit of a bummer in the warm weather but it certainly beats getting your clothes dirty. You should've removed the oil filler cap before draining the old oil but other that that it was pretty much spot on.

  • @GEMC98
    @GEMC98 6 лет назад

    On these Oil Filters, the Top O-Ring gets Stuck in the Filter Housing. At 4:57 you can see an Old O-Ring from an Old Filter Stuck in there.
    The Oil-Pressure will get lower than it should be. Seen Cars with 2 O-Rings stacked on Top! These Engines are notorius for Timing Chain failure, this will make it even worse. You can hear it rattling when you started it up. Also, if you reset the Service Light with the Buttons on the Cluster, you will only get a 15k km and 1 Year Intervall. To get the 30k km and 2 Year Intervall you have to reset it over a Scan tool.
    You should correct this!

    • @kieranyarwood95
      @kieranyarwood95 6 лет назад

      It's the 1.4 TSI that's prone to timing chain issues

    • @GEMC98
      @GEMC98 6 лет назад +1

      Kieran Yarwood Done a Lot of Chains on the 1,2 aswell

    • @kieranyarwood95
      @kieranyarwood95 6 лет назад

      GEMC I never saw any problems when I was researching engines before buying my 1.2 Ibiza. VAG obviously preferred it since the later EA211 TSI engines have belts, but never saw people complaining with the 1.2. I think a lot of the chain problems were on the turbo and supercharged 1.4s, more so than just turbo ones

    • @GEMC98
      @GEMC98 6 лет назад

      1.4s were definitly the worst of them.
      There is even a Special Tool from Volkswagen to Check the Chain for Stretch on both Engine Types

  • @danielfl.9347
    @danielfl.9347 6 лет назад +1

    TSI is turbo. I am sorry, but WHY is the oil that black? It is definitely not supposed to be that colour. How many KMs / years did you drive with the oil?

    • @teravolt6113
      @teravolt6113 6 лет назад

      5W30 oil so i guess it's some kind of long life change. Anyway the darker the oil gets, the better it's keeping the engine clean.

  • @danielfl.9347
    @danielfl.9347 6 лет назад

    When you started you engine up I can hear the timing chain rattling. If it keeps doing this on cold engines you should get it inspected as you can total your engine. It could just be due to low oil pressure.

    • @teravolt6113
      @teravolt6113 6 лет назад

      With petrol Vauxhall Corsa Bs and Cs some not too loud rattling is somewhat normal when the engine is fully warmed up (the oil just thins out when hot and the tensioner does what it can), but a rattling cold engine definitely needs some immediate attention.

  • @GenSmashsed

    Need more love for Skoda on this platform. People still stick by the old prejudices and stereotypes of post-war, pre-Vag Skoda.
    Wonderful cars to drive; reliable cars, and great ol workhorses. Our 15 year old Octy is still ticking. Less than 100k on er, original headlight bulbs, never failed us and has yet to fail an MOT. My current car, Fabia Monte Carlo 1.6TDI CR (108Bhp) is just as easy to service and fun to drive.
    They're lovely cars and honestly; why pay the extra cash for a high end Volkswagen when you can get the same, if not more on a high spec Skoda for less.
    Just a thought; your engine sounds a little rough for having less than 50K. My previous monte carlo 1.2TSI (86Bhp) didn't sound so rough and i was wondering why yours sounds so loud. I mean lifter tick is a given with the engines. It's a sound you get accustomed to. But that is quite loud for what i'm used to.
    sadly to say Monty didn't get to reach 32K miles before he was wrote of by a box van (funny thing being that the van was in a much worse state than Monty was. He's on the road with a different owner now).

    I’m a mechanic by trade, you should never fill oil to the full mark on the dipstick as it can cause other lights to come on, always put enough oil in so it’s just over half way as that will be enough. If you put to much oil in you can get a light coming on saying oil level to high meaning you’ll have to start all over. Also why did you check the oil level before running the motor, that will give you a false reading as the oil has not circulated

    Oh shit dude!!!! You forget the o-ring of the old oil filter. Dont drive with it. Your oil pressure will be low and the engine can be damaged and also the oil switch light goes on. !!!!!!! Listen to me im working in vw service. You forget the o ring of the old oil filter my friend!

    You’ll never get a true level of the oil with the car sitting on a forward slope. You need to add oil and then check it on the level.

    I thought every time you put fresh oil in yiu had to change the air filter not oil filter? please can you help me out

    • @coses4957
      @coses4957 6 лет назад +2

      You only need to change the air filter if you are changing the air, and if you are chaning the oil, you change the oil filter. It is pretty straight up.

      A basic service normally consists of oil, oil filter, air filter, plugs and pollen filter. Up to you what you do or pay for

    • @neilhepburn2296
      @neilhepburn2296 6 лет назад

      Oil and oil filter needs to be changed at least every 10,000 miles or once a year what ever comes first thats the most important thing to do. Air filter usually 20,000 to 30,000 miles depends on driving conditions etc fuel filter i would recomend about 30,0000 as for spark plugs or glow plugs respectively you will know when they need changed as the car will hesitate to start on cold mornings etc, pollen filter i would change every 2 years, all vechicles are different if any doubt consult your owners manual and that will tell you what the manufacturer recomends.

    Why not use an extractor pump? So much easier

    • @OffGridInvestor
      @OffGridInvestor 4 года назад

      Extractor pumps are only used for transmissions and harder cases. So you are going to sit there for ages trying to suck thru the dipstick hole? And then STILL LEAVE sludge behind? That's nuts and you NEVER get as much stuff with an extractor pump.
