I went to samsung to get an estimate for the battery drain, they told me that I'd have to get the motherboard and battery replaced for an estimate of 218$ cad.. I've now fixed my problem for free. Thank you
Before doing this fix, I was only getting around 6 hours or so a day of a single charge. I also reduced the screen timeout to 10 seconds and brightness at level 4!
I think mines just need a new battery. I got the watch from my cousin as he wasnt using it so he gifted it to me. But the battery only last literally on 30 min. Everything I recharge it to full charge. It does after 30 min.
Thank you kind sir! This trick (resetting the watch to factory defaults) seems to have fixed the battery drain issue on my s3 frontier. A weird side effect - I did a full watch backup as you suggested, but I did not get any of my apps back when I restored from the backup. Not a big deal though. The settings did come back which was nice. Thanks again!
Minor detail, you can skip clearing the RAM because the factory reset will do that anyway. But yeah this video helped! All I needed was a good reset, an update, and things seem to be better now!
The purpose of me stating to clear RAM is to have a cleaner backup before doing a factory reset. You do not want to carry over bad files in your backup or the issue may return.
Thanks to your video I was able to fix my watch it had issue with the battery for 3 days and it was draining really fast even for non-use now it's fixed thanks for posting this video to help out

At first it still drained quickly, but then it actually ended up lasting quite a bit, maybe it just needed to calibrate or sth. Appreciate you my man. Hitting you with a like and a follow :)
This is crazy good! When I first bought my Samsung Active 3, it lasted only 2 days. Something (I dont know what) happened to my watch that made it only last half day. I was so sad and finally came across your video and tried the whole backup-reset tips and now my watch lasts 4 days! (Within those 4 days I exercised 30-40 minutes twice and seldom connect the watch to my phone) Thank you so much! I have liked, commented, and subscribed your channel!
Useful video. Thanks. Current battery drain issues are an ongoing problem causing misery to a huge number of owners, yet Samsung refuse to acknowledge or address it. The biggest culprit is the Samsung Health app. Uninstalling that makes a huge difference, but that renders redundant one of the main reasons for buying the watch. Very clearly a software issue…but Samsung continue to bury their collective heads in the sand. Shame on Samsung.
Since the Gear S3 is 3 going on 4 years old, it was a replacement battery that fixed my battery drain issues. I have the Frontier. The new software plus the fact the batteries are getting old in 2019/2020 are 2 big factors.
That's a good point. I also believe it is the battery as well. Be careful with yours because once you crack it open... I think it looses its water resistant sealing!
Hey Guys... My watch was off for about 30 days during the Lockdown & when wanted to turn it back on it won't. I left it charging for almost 24 hrs. & yet it won't turn on. Then i just happened to press both the buttons while it was still on the cradle charging and VOILA! IT WORKED. The screen turned on & now I can see the watch face. Just that the charge is still only 6% but m glad that the watch has come out of coma :p
This worked the first time and lasted a couple of weeks... After that I'm back to about 6-8hrs b4 the battery dies. I've tried this fix several times since and I even replaced the battery and still the same...Sooooo frustrating
I agree it is very frustrating and the fact these watches are in no way cheap is one of the most annoying parts. We should have much better support than this.
I have the Samsung s3 gear frontier and before the tizen 4,0 update I was getting minimum of 2 days with AOD and hr sensor set to 10 minutes. Sometimes with medium use it would last for 2,5 days without charging, maybe 3 days if the use was lighter. After update battery was fucked up. Like someone said it's a 2016 model so yeah the battery cannot handle the new software.
Yes I agree that the software update messed up the battery. I actually contacted Samsung regarding this and they replace the motherboard and battery for me, free of charge, and watch is out of warranty. I would contact them and explain to them that the software update killed your battery. Let them know that many Gear S3 owners are facing the same issue. They may say its out of warranty and try to charge for the repair. Let them know that the issue came from then from the update and to please take care of the problem for free. You may need to request a manager if they don't budge. I did not need a manager but you can play that card if need be. It all about getting the right person and mention you will give a good survey for taking care of you!

Just had a recent update that caused insane battery drain from 100% t0 60% in 1 hour. Couldn't even charge the watch without turning off bluetooth all together because it was draining faster than it was charging. Wife is experiencing the same with her galaxy watch. Samsung strikes again!
@@NerdGadget I haven't factory reset yet. A lot of my watch faces that I paid for aren't even available anymore and I'd rather not lose and have to reupload all of my music either. So after doing some further testing... it looks like there is an issue wilth the Gear S3 Always On Display. This issue popped up after the One UI update!
The clean storage/ram option is gone from my Wearable app. I used to clean it every few weeks. This last week or so I've had crazy battery drain.. I've followed all other instructions here (back up, restore, reset), hopefully that's the fix.
nice video bro. Thanks that help me out alot for sure.i thought i had gotten water in my watch or something and battery got messed up. i do some swimming with it on sometimes which is ok from what i read.
I'm using a standard, built in, non animated watch face. I have factory reset the watch and cleared the cache, and RAM. My S3 Frontier will be at 100% and shut down do to lack of power 🔋 in less than six hours. I can't figure for the life of me what is going on.
Are you restoring from your previous back up? If so, try doing another factory wipe and test without loading your backup. If that works, just re-install your previous apps, watch faces, and configure it manually. However, if it is still dying fast, your battery may be defective need a whole new motherboard unfortunately. Hopfully what I mentioned above will fix your issue.
Only original chargers, cables, adapters should be used, just as the Samsung factory prescribed, I made a mistake for 4 months and charged my watch via laptop, and every day it lost and lost battery power, until I returned to the original adapter of 0.7 amps that plugs into a power outlet, and again my watch can last 3 days until the next charge.
I've tried everything and nothing works. The battery drain problem is a real problem and it's not a actually a battery problem, it's a software issue. The fact that a software update caused or fixes this issue proves that it's some crappy software engineering. I've been told that Samsung probably doesn't care about the issue anymore and has left it behind as they're on to new watches now. They never got this old one right, so we're all just supposed to eat it and buy the next thing. I have 2 of these now. Both are the same. The battery loses about 17% an hour when NOT connected to the phone. In other words, when I go out and leave the phone behind, like jogging, or take the phone and leave the watch at home. Once it is disconnected from BT, it dies quickly. This is with BT off, Wifi off, NFC off, all apps closed, GPS/location off, heart rate monitor off, basically just using it for telling time, dies FAST. Once it is connected to the phone via BT, my non LTE version gets great battery life, after 24 hours it was at 73% with the same settings above (but with BT on of course for the connection), my LTE version when connected is not as good and loses about 5% per hour. But much better than 17-18% per hour. Also, went running today without the phone. The purpose of the watch was to be able to not take the phone everywhere. I went out at 100% battery, ran for 35 minutes and used the running app. After that 35 minute run, my battery was at 80%. 20% loss in 35 minutes. Just ridiculous. Other than the fact that it doesn't work, I love the watch. I bought the second one just so I could have one charged when one dies and rotate them. But that isn't how it's supposed to be. It really sucks that Samsung leaves us fuc*ed on this watch with shit software.
I totally agree with you on this. It is not right that Samsung left us out to dry. The watch is awesome and the workaround I provided works for some and not everyone. I am managing mines with this workaround until next years Galaxy Watch is released. It does suck that we paid a premium price for this watch and get treated like this. Hopefully this will not happen again with the newer models!
@@pinkivy98 LOL, you don't. It never worked, you can only sync one watch to the samsung app. It was a complete fail and waste of money and time. I sold both and I'm happily back to wearing the high quality Japanese and Swiss watches in my collection.
@@pinkivy98 Make sure you are signed into it on your phone app and run it. Do the same on your Gear/ Galaxy Watch app and it should sync... as long as your watch is connected to your phone.
I was getting 5 days on a single charge. Now, I am getting a day to day and a half at best. Before optimizing the watch to get 5 days, I was getting around 3 days on a single charge. I did the factory reset and optimize battery trick, but it didn't work. Also, the fast drain occurred over night, meaning that the loss in watch performance dropped drastically from one charge to the other rather than gradually. I am wondering if this could've occurred after a software update. After all, the culprit appears to be "System" according to the Wearable app. Anyone experiencing the same?
@@NerdGadget I do have an update on this matter. The reset did work. However, it is taking a while for the watch's OS to keep adapting to your usage. After the reset, it took maybe a second cycle and it started to get better with each charge. Right now, battery is back to around 4+ days on a single charge (currently 3d 51m with 43% left). My feeling is that it will be up to 5+ days per charge next time I charge it I don't get that with this current cycle.
@@marcellusholley That could be the case... try this... when it dies.... place on the charger... wait a few seconds... take note of what battery percentage shows up. Is it more than 1%? If so, press and hold the both buttons down for about 15 seconds or until it says rebooting, and then let it charge for an hour or two. See if that helps!
Can you help with similar Gear S3 Frontier problem? It shuts down at body temp. plus 1 degree. If the watch is covered by sweater or glove, gets a bit warmer and shuts down. Thanks!
Oh that sounds like a real issue with the circut board which may need to be replaced unfortunately. You may need to contact Samsung to see what they say. These steps would not help with that.
Just watched your video as I am having battery drain issues. I recently upgraded my phone and am back to using Samsung and want to pair my watch to my phone. Haven't used my Gear3 Frontier for about 2 yrs now and am getting less then a day use. Hoping these tips will help bring back life to my gear3. Love the watch and think it is amazing. Thanks for the tips in the video.
Try doing a reboot by holding down power button (lower one) down until you see "Rebooting" and then let it go. After you watch completes booting up... give it a try again.
the age of the device is also relevant. it's only a little battery & won't hold charge as long as it did when it was new. I turn mine off at night so only use the watch for about 12 hours a day & I get about 4 days of use out of it.
That's a very good point as well Rubus Roo. However, for me... my Gear S3 suffered from battery drainage after a week or so past the release date. It drove me nuts for a good while until performing the steps I mentioned in my video. I have now been enjoying my watch with no worries of it dying on me before the day runs dry... and even far beyond. Thank you for your good tip as well!
@@alains751 I actually do have a battery drain issue, but mines may not be as drastic as others. I have had my watch die after a full charge from simply using Samsung Pay. Quiet frustration but this worked for me and others too. Not sure if Samsung is going to address the issue as well. I will actually give them a call and see if a patch can be pushed. I will let them know regarding my video and that tons of customers are dealing with this issue. Hopefully a case can be opened to get a patch pushed.
While your watch is powered off and you place it on the charger, wait a second, and take note of the battery percentage. Then let it sit on the charger for about 30 minutes, take it off the charger, wait a second, and then place it back on the charger. Did your battery charge percentage increase? Also did it increase significantly? If so, the let it sit there for a few hours before testing again. If it dod not increase... it could mean your battery is dead. I hope that is not the case.

Me gustaria este vídeo en español, le entiendo un poco pero no al 100%...aún así lo voy a intentar.....
I truly hope so as well too!
Can you fix wake up screen by touch.on one ui 1 it not working
Try doing a reboot by holding down power button (lower one) down until you see "Rebooting" and then let it go. After you watch completes booting up... give it a try again.
@@NerdGadget tried. But still
@@ngocminhnguyen5184 Had you tried device wiping it and not load your backup data... just to see if it works without loading your backed data?
the age of the device is also relevant. it's only a little battery & won't hold charge as long as it did when it was new.
Your comment is irrelevant to this issue as obviously you do not have this battery drain problem. but I'm glad to hear yours works well.
Hopefully a case can be opened to get a patch pushed.
it keeps on giving error on copying update
Try device wiping with no app installs.
How do we know if it's an "animated" one
If the watchface moves around or has any motion.
watching this in 2023 I would just change the battery lol the kit is $12.00
Absolutely, lol!
My battery goes from 100 to 0 in 3 hours smh
So sorry to hear that.
My watch wont even last a minute
While your watch is powered off and you place it on the charger, wait a second, and take note of the battery percentage. Then let it sit on the charger for about 30 minutes, take it off the charger, wait a second, and then place it back on the charger. Did your battery charge percentage increase? Also did it increase significantly? If so, the let it sit there for a few hours before testing again. If it dod not increase... it could mean your battery is dead. I hope that is not the case.
@@NerdGadget My battery is DEADDDDDD. 😭 I hope Samsung will replace it. Got it 3 months ago. Been having battery draining issues for over a month.
@@MNerestant83 I also hope so as well. I believe they would since it has only been 3 months.
Thanks bro I appreciate you…🫡
