It's funny to imagine a NASCAR fan getting cryogenically frozen at the end of 2001, waking up in like 2019 or later, seeing Jimmie Johnson sucking in Cup, thinking "Wow, that scrub made it to Cup and lasted... two decades?!?" and then being even more confused upon finding out that he won 83 races and seven championships in between all of that.
Honestly if you asked most nascar fans in 2001 about Jimmie Johnson, most would probably be like “who?”
@@kevinlittrell3407 I get the feeling that when he won his first race in '02, some fans who had no idea how great he'd be simply thought, "Good for him that he won't just be remembered for that ugly Watkins Glen wreck!" (You know, like how when McDowell won the '21 Daytona 500, some were just glad he would be remembered for something other than that awful 2008 Texas crash.)
Gordon sure has an eye for talent to be able to find this guy from off-road truck racing and the ASA. You pair a Cup-level driver up with Chad Knaus (who I really think was the secret sauce to Ray and Jeff's success during the 90's), I'm sure you'd find success, but I remember when Jimmie was announced as HMS' next driver, someone hand-picked by Jeff Gordon, I was really confused. I was thinking how come this Busch Series scrub got such a good ride.
im wondering if jimmie will ever win a nascar race ever
Again, no. But he is good at Dover. At that just happens to be the next race on the scedual
0:49 days of thunder.....oh this is gonna hurt ...almost it had that look thank God nothing happened
Well the answer is no, lib. Shut up. :)
He won't but he has enough wins
Without cheating? Doubtful
Kevin Harvick said on his podcast that some of what made Jimmie so successful, was the super detailed information that Jeff Gordon was able to give about the cars to HMS. Said he saw this first-hand when SHR had an alliance with HMS.
He was nothing without Chad Knaus & Hendrick, and he has since returned to nothing.
i mean hes driving a totally new car and has gotten incredibly less time to learn it in backrunner equipment. he was running top 20 pace in kansas until he got wrecked
Jimmie Johnson 2018-2020:
0 Wins
10 Top 5s
33 Top 10s
A 17.1 Average Finish
A 16.7 Average Points
And 14 DNFs
Tbf Hendrick as a whole was not very good in 2018 and 2019.
2016: Ron Malec moves up, Jesse Saunders takes over as car chief
2018: NASCAR changed the radiator pan rules AFTER the Camaro is designed
2018: FUCKING CAR FALLS APART DURING DOVER, A RACE WHERE THE MAN HAS WON 11 TIMES!
2018: Chad Knaus is moved to Rick's Sons team
2020: Camaro is still a massive POS
2021: camaro gets ZL1 1LE nose and is the best car in NASCAR...
But he won 2019 Clash
What made Jimmie good was Chad Knaus…
It's crazy that Jimmie ran poorly during his handful of Cup starts in 2001 but Jeff Gordon still went ahead with him
Chad Knaus. Some of it was he was good. A lot of it was shady. There was a period where he won multiple races in suspicious circumstances in a row.
I think Jimmie just needs to adapt to the next gen car we see the more he runs the better he’s getting. I think Dover this week is the biggest test yet
It took him a whole year to finish a race
@@qqqqqqthree again everyone has said how different this car is compared to gen 6, we all remember how many wrecks happened in early 2022 as drivers got the new car under their feet. Jimmie is racing part time and there’s a massive difference between simulators and the real deal
Wilhelm Scream and Wasted sums up that shunt at The Glen
Its funny how Jimmie was bad in Xfinity and Trucks but when he got to cup something just clicked
That something was Chad Knaus 😂
Ron malec wouldve been with him if chad wasnt so he wouldve been great either way @LessGo7921
@@LessGo7921that helped yes. But those cars were some of the hardest ones to drive in the cup seires garage and yet Jimmie wheeled those monsters to mamy wins
@@tstuff1213any race car is only as much of a monsters as the setup lets it be. Jimmie with Chad was great, without he’s really been nothing. Jeff was amazing with Ray, still good without but not near the level he was with Ray.
It’s called money and equipment
I was watching that Watkins Glenn race and told my wife when it happened that I thought he was hurt bad. Became a big fan when I saw him climb out & stand on the roof.
I met him in 99 at an asa race. Only because he had noone in line and i used up most of the autograph time waiting for adam petty. Never heard of him, but he was there, had literally noone in line so screw it i got an autograph lol. Wonder what its worth now, a period signed 44 pennzoil herzog promo card
I'll give you 48 cases of shine, $10k, my 95 Ford F250 (does not run atm) and a weekend with my sister.
@@KDill29 da fuq is wrong with you lol
A return to form
I love Greg Biffle's take on Jimmie's crash at Watkins Glen from years back. Still makes me laugh
“He got out like he just won something” I don’t remember the quote by heart but I think it was something like that
And now he sucks again 💀
Lol Jimmie doesn't know when to fully retire, at least Jeff Gordon did.
Jeff Knew When It Was Done…….
….And Only Ran Chevys In The Cup Series (Part Time When He Was One Of The Relief Drivers For Jr.)
hendrick magic
And he does again!!!!!!
Fun fact
Jimmie Johnson
Never won a title under the Winston cup Era
Lmao ok
Who cares and he started racing in 2002, the before last season for winston cup
Mr 7X did Use to not be Good, Correct! 😁👍
Killing it this year
Jimmie racing for Herzog started back in SODA. I’d have to watch the interview again but after some crashes in off road racing he was looking for a career transition, luckily the same time Herzog I guess decided to get into pavement racing. They had an offroad program with chevy using the vortec engines, maybe they were getting more motor work by running a busch car at the same time perhaps.
Dude couldn’t drive a busch car. Only won when Newman blew a tire. Then goes to Hendrick and gets 7 cups? Jimmie Chad and Brian France were in bed together.
Chad was the reason, best crew chief ever
*cheater
@@w_redeye prove it
@@thetruth1446 the man has the record for most suspensions for cheating as a crew chief
@@w_redeye Well dish us out the evidence! Cant go around making claims outta thin air 🤣
Fyi: Every single team that has ever been in NASCAR has tried to "bend the rules"
Cliff Daniel’s just got caught at Talladega. What’s the point of complaining if cheating is part of motorsport. If other teams don’t like it they’ll cheat better or notify the officials. Simple.
the one example of things getting harder but the driver doing better
Chad was like Ray. Car manipulator and obsessive note maker.
He’s nothing without Gordon carrying Hendricks R&D
Why is Ron Malec never mentioned??
Jimmie Johnson is nothing without chad knaus
Tony Stewart also did mediocre at best in the bush series before he went cup.
W video tbh, love the history behind it
He also sucked anytime he was away from Chad Knaus. Kinda makes you think, don’t it?
This is one of the best examples of why drivers shouldn't spend extra time in the lower series' to "develop"
I still get confused with Jimmie's name being written with "ie" instead of "y"
Well not much has changed currently
He still sucks. A stock car is literally the only thing he can drive without wrecking. Most of the time.
Herzog wasn't a great team either. Nice bait
Todd Bodine had no trouble performing well for them.
He was sucked and he hang out with Blaise
Minecraft NASCAR gfa5 gfa6 million subscribers dollars like all Jimmie Johnson 83 NASCAR NASCAR cup series wins 1 NASCAR NASCAR Xfinity series wins
He’s only a seven-time champion because of a convoluted and broken system. He should be a three-time champion based on being best from start to finish also after 2017. He was absolutely terrible like field filler terrible, so yes Jimmie Johnson sucks.
I wouldnt consider someone who has won 3 championships in any motorsport sucking. Lets be honest
This implies that Chad Knaus, director of competition at HMS, wouldve lost to Bob Osborne, Steve Letarte, Gil Martin, and some other ramdom dork...
A system that changed constantly to stop him and across many generations of cars and getting 83 wins. Oh ya Jimmie was just a fluke champion
@@roymcdre9180cole pearn once said: tungsten buttplug.
Winston cup format is bad and the chase is better than winston cup format
This video is lacking of research and tries to force a painfully awful narrative for clicks.
Herzog Motorsports was not a "fairly prestigious race team." 2000 was their first full-time season as a Busch series team. Considering that Jimmie and this team went up against more established teams like RCR, showing improvement and finishing top 10 in points two years in a row is far from "sucking."
"Got the pants beaten off of him by Greg Biffle" yeah, a small team clobbered by a Roush car. Jimmie Johnson should've just put the paper bag over his head and never raced again.
Wasn't Todd Bodine leading the points with them and won at Darlington in 2002 with them?
Bro Trying To Be Ultimate23Dragon🤣🤣
Didnt they run asa with him in 98 and 99
He sucks now
Hi JprPoketrainer98
Jimmie sucked before Chad and after Chad
