    It's funny to imagine a NASCAR fan getting cryogenically frozen at the end of 2001, waking up in like 2019 or later, seeing Jimmie Johnson sucking in Cup, thinking "Wow, that scrub made it to Cup and lasted... two decades?!?" and then being even more confused upon finding out that he won 83 races and seven championships in between all of that.

    • @kevinlittrell3407

      Honestly if you asked most nascar fans in 2001 about Jimmie Johnson, most would probably be like “who?”

    • @SortaNonymous
      @SortaNonymous 14 дней назад +5

      @@kevinlittrell3407 I get the feeling that when he won his first race in '02, some fans who had no idea how great he'd be simply thought, "Good for him that he won't just be remembered for that ugly Watkins Glen wreck!" (You know, like how when McDowell won the '21 Daytona 500, some were just glad he would be remembered for something other than that awful 2008 Texas crash.)

      Gordon sure has an eye for talent to be able to find this guy from off-road truck racing and the ASA. You pair a Cup-level driver up with Chad Knaus (who I really think was the secret sauce to Ray and Jeff's success during the 90's), I'm sure you'd find success, but I remember when Jimmie was announced as HMS' next driver, someone hand-picked by Jeff Gordon, I was really confused. I was thinking how come this Busch Series scrub got such a good ride.

    Jimmie racing for Herzog started back in SODA. I’d have to watch the interview again but after some crashes in off road racing he was looking for a career transition, luckily the same time Herzog I guess decided to get into pavement racing. They had an offroad program with chevy using the vortec engines, maybe they were getting more motor work by running a busch car at the same time perhaps.

    This video is lacking of research and tries to force a painfully awful narrative for clicks.
    Herzog Motorsports was not a "fairly prestigious race team." 2000 was their first full-time season as a Busch series team. Considering that Jimmie and this team went up against more established teams like RCR, showing improvement and finishing top 10 in points two years in a row is far from "sucking."
    "Got the pants beaten off of him by Greg Biffle" yeah, a small team clobbered by a Roush car. Jimmie Johnson should've just put the paper bag over his head and never raced again.
