    • @9kArdos3
      @9kArdos3 2 года назад +7

      It makes extreme difference how you handle it, like you wouldn't experience it in 999 out of a thousand games. That is one of the reasons why SS is awesome.
      Little details like pacing yourself.
      For example, depending on your activity and state, it is crucial not to include a slow ship into your faster fleet however tempting or awesome it might seem.
      Similar examples apply to it's economic landscape, you can find out the details on it's wiki page, for example tech mining on high grade ruins will flood you with trouble unless you are prepared. But mostly it is really very intuitive.
      The most effective route, in my experience, is to start with collecting the best burn 9 or faster ships, while doing bounties and exploring for suitable planet to get your first colony as soon as possible for storage of ships, weapons and for cheap and stable source of supplies, fuel and crew.
      I usually have the first colony within one hour without hurry. Once I have it I start hoarding everything into it while I maintain my active fleet at burn 9. You can evolve your burn 9 fleet to quite the powerhouse and you can amass any number of heavier ships before you progress further otherwise, not that you should, but you can until you get your grip on it.
      Exploration is very impactful and it can be paired with bounty hunting which pays well and generates battle experience. They synergize if you do it well.
      Safer simpler route is viable, exchanging the bounty hunting with exploration.
      Once I'm done collecting and exploring in the vicinity of bounty zones I usually have found and created several colonies, left mostly undeveloped, have invested 1-4 million into weapons and ships(I start buying weapons in the markets from the first second).
      At that point I have a functional secondary heavier fleet if I need it, but still the main active fleet is on burn 9 and setting it's sight on the deep exploration, searching for the ideal colony system, nano forges, other impactful items.
      I usually leave orbital habitats and definitely leave mining stations untouched until I switch to burn 8, because they have the possibility of having a lot more loot compared to your storage space.
      This is just a tangled summary of the start, to be successful you have to be attentive and you have to do the right things, like collecting weapons instead of selling them, spending hours in the simulator refitting your ships, deciding on fleet compositions, getting to know what ships and weapons fit where exactly, because all of them are decent at worst, at some point, but at any given time some of them are objectively and impactfully better than others.
      Some of the most awesome things happen in the simulator, like realizing that switching out the objectively better weapon for something special will perform better when you will fight a certain opponent, or even leaving some weapon slots empty can yield better results, on the atlas it's straight recommended to underfit weapon wise.
      Considering the amount of high quality mods it's endless, how great and awesome SS is.

    • @stevens9625
      @stevens9625 2 года назад

      @@d3vastat0r89 How big is your fleet when you hit the wall? From my experience over the last 7 years with SS, all you need is to hang around a few big pirate raid events at the start and you can pick up all the money/salvage you need to build a half decent fleet where you start to snow ball.

    20:13 - The repair gun doesn't reach the edge of the screen to encourage the player to design ships with hallways to allow you to reach all of the ship components. I agree that the range could be a little bit longer though.

  • @Eener1000

    That big ship at the start is indeed a bug. It is one of the tutorial ships that teaches you about stuff, but has a design that actually makes it undockable without altering it. This game is awesome, but the story needs a lot of work. The gameplay and mechanics and shipdesigning is great, it just needs goals for you as a player.

      Not a bug, but it is a ship you are not really supposed to have. But, if you manage to get that ship to your base, you unlock the blueprint and can build it normally. You then need to alter the ship to have an airlock, once you unlock the part.

      It's true, you can recover from some pretty catastrophic damage in this game. I have around 350 hours into the game and have been following it since the original WTF back when it had a different art style. The ship building in this game is really quite amazing. The game is certainly not finished, but it is actually a lot of fun to mess around in and you can really make some pretty amazing builds by playing with the ship building. $30 is a decent chunk to ask for, but the small team is still slowly working on the title and I've found a fair amount of fun in jumping back in now and then and checking out what's there.

      Why are you so happy with this title?
      Please explain?

    • @seagulTajin
      @seagulTajin 2 года назад

      @@rareraven I think for the most part its due to the ability to actually run around in the ships, do manual repairs, fight and whatnot. Not many games offer that, especially not with so much detail.
      Running through your ship to do some emergency repairs while you see enemy fire chewing through your armor is pretty intense. You may even end up getting thrown into space when a hullbreach happens close to you. If you're lucky you're wearing an EVA suit and might be able to get back onboard before worse things happen.
      At the same time, knowing the layout of enemy ships allows you to aim for weakpoints and cripple or board them more easily. There is a lot of depth there.
      Things like the limited range of the repair gun are an important factor, as you'll have to include service tunnels in your ships to allow for manual repairs... or have repair drones instead.
      Yes there are some bugs and yes the price is a bit too high. Most of those bugs are related to some recent and rather massive changes, the core mechanics however work pretty well.

    Btw in that game you can a pirate... But in real meaning - literally cruise with a neutral ship on a same speed, then eject yourself through dock and "sneak" into that ship) But you need to find before that some decent weapon and a space suit as well)) So if you want a huge high-tire space craft, just construct a smallest, but fastest, fighter and went steal those scambags shops what you're need more, then them))

    Your repair gun has limited range because it is meant for emergency repair. If you want more complete repairs, use drones if you got the grey goo.
    Equip the nanite aura to use it.
    Think distances are too long? Research to the end of T2 for the travel technology.
    You are not really supposed to have the tutorial ship, but you can get the blueprint if you manage to get it back to base. After that, you need to put an airlock on it to use it.

  • @ProstoLyubo
    @ProstoLyubo 2 года назад +9

    I disagree about the goo gun being able to fire whenever you want. The currenc mechanics nicely pushes you towards building and designing ships that have maintenance corridors. otherwise you wouldnt need any of them. So imho, it's range should be even lower.

    • @Quadrolithium
      @Quadrolithium 2 года назад +2

      Yep, I have a carrier that is so big, it'll take you minutes to go end to end (please for fucks safe devs, give us trains inside really massive ships like what you did to space stations) I find it more economical to just have 2 repair drones do all the work

    • @richiebee33
      @richiebee33 2 года назад

      Right, so the idea would be that there wouldn't be any places in existing ship designs you couldn't hit with the current gun's range.

    Yeah - pretty much agree with Splat. I got this game about 2 years ago and thought "I don't really understand what I am expected to do... but it seems COOL AS!!!"
    Kept meaning to go back to it and see if I was doing it wrong. Doesn't seem like I am missing much. Oh well.

    The way you repair a ship completely is by taking it to a repair station or home base, or you can use the repair drone bay ship component.

    I wonder if the devs would consider selling this game's code base 'as-is' to another dev team and letting them finish it. More of that should happen in the industry, imho. Some teams are great with concept and prototype, others are great at seeing things through to completion. Personally, I love the destruction tech, the ability to dock and run around on board, and the 'feel' of flying. I'd say that's tech worth buying and finishing out.

    The tutorial ship has no airlock so the only way to get on is to spacewalk close enough for a prompt to appear that lets you board it, but due to having no airlock you can't dock it to anything to restock, repair or recycle it.

    I've had this game for a while..I try to get nanite aura so i can repair my ship just by being near..also good repair tools and a must have minigun not to mention a eva suit that for always comes in handy. If you can mod your ship then you might want to remove any extra crew quarters and replace them with something you think will be usefull.

    There should be companies that specialize in (ethically) picking up all the good ideas and atmospheres that some tiny indies produce and pour the kind of structure and manpower into them to make them whole, finished games. As it stands, there doesn't seem to be much between the idea (and happenstance) stage, and the production stage, which there really needs to be. Having a good idea or stumbling on something that _really_ works, doesn't necessarily have that much to do with realizing its potential. It kinda hurts a little when I think of all the games that have something really cool about them but will sort of just fade away along with the indie mass that deserves to just fade away (which, let's be honest is the vast majority).
    Imagine for example if this had happened to a game like say, Minecraft. Maybe a poor example since Minecraft even at its core was pretty undeniable I guess, but you get what I'm saying. It would be a legit tragedy for gaming.
    "ΔV: Rings of Saturn" was on Splat's skillet just the other day and is a good example I think. It was first released as early access in 2019 and I just picked it up for 5 bucks (which is what I paid for Minecraft, a game I still play). It's still undercooked in a pretty big way, but it has this golden nugget in its core gameplay that's good enough for me to be excited about having a go at it 3 days in a row now. If it had the insight and manpower where that golden nugget could provide the basis for rapid expansion and streamlining, it could be a great game. Instead, I'm worried that it will never be fully redeemed.

    Game looks great at a superficial glance and I can certainly see the potential here! But I can also see how it is a difficult recommendation compared to, for example, Starsector. By comparison, Starsector is highly polished, packed with features and almost half the price.

    Another one of these games that was great when I discovered it a few years ago but that seems to have slowed down massively in terms of updates and development. Maybe the dev pushes this game to 1.0 soon. Right now it's somewhere in between unfinished and decently playable. All the parts are there but there's little connection between them.

    this game reminds me of...damn, i forgot what it was called. but basically you also were in the interior of ships and you had to fulfill special missions - be it assasinate someone, kidnap someone, kill everyone or just bring the ship somewhere. and you also had this slow motion/pause and thus instant reaction thing going on, so you very much can just masacre everyone with ease and dodge bullets as they fly towards you etc.

    Yeah even the first ship you get has significant power bottlenecks. You can clone the design and then fix the wiring so you get a good weapon rate-of-fire increase for no cost. So the ship editing is useful even before you research your first ship component. You don't have to be looking to create your own ship designs. You can tweak the vanilla ones. Not doing anything is just nerfing yourself though.
