I was there at the SCG for Day 5. Such an amazing atmosphere irrespective of the Covid situation. The crowd went bonkers after Smith got a wicket. Test cricket delivers yet again and I am so thankful to watch an Ashes test Down under.
This match reminds me when Ajaz Patel and Rachin Ravindra did the same thing when NZ had lost 9 wickets but these two players saved the match against India last year in 1st test match.
Every ball of every game Ben Stokes treats as if it's life and death. I'm surprised he's made it this far in the series as he nearly bowled himself to death in Adelaide. If his workload wasn't so great he would make an ideal 'lead from the front' type captain a la Allan Border. Stokes has an indomitable spirit.
The most worrying thing is England's inability to bowl the Aussies out. They've only bowled them out twice in 8 innings and England themselves haven't passed 300 even once.
This match reminds me where Ashwin and Vihari had saved the game and the third test match was draw at the SCG in 3rd test match where the great escapes were Pujara and Pant.
Bairstow and Khawaja's games mirrored each other. Both recalled in their 30's b/c of unavailability and form, both scored beautiful tons. Had either failed, I doubt we'd see them in tests again. Great game of cricket.

For all the Aussie fans, I understand that the dropped catches were heartbreaking, and these 'what if's will linger in our minds for a while. But we must understand that these players are only human.
