Smith is really one of the greats... even when he is far ahead of all of his contemporaries, he is willing to change his technique to work on his weakness still...and improve from where he was... Great to see him adapt to the slowness of the Sidney ground as well...

It is interesting that when there was no T20 cricket, Test matches and ODI were very high scoring. Like when was the last time we saw 900 runs in a test match innings or a 400 in ODI? Nowadays T20 scores are soaring but teams fail to score 300 runs in 50 overs. Players have now lost the ability to play longer innings.
True. It was one of the main arguments against T20 when it was first devised. T20 requires a different mindset to Test cricket and the two are not compatible. One can only succeed at the expense of the other.
The other issue is there is more money in T20 than the longer forms of the game, so players want to play T20 more. I fear the test cricket is becoming extinct.
The first time 400 was scored in an ODI was in 2006, when T20 cricket was starting out. It never happened before that. Also 900 has only ever been scored in a test match TWICE in history, once in 1997 and once in 1938.

Probably not the best example. England vs Australia always draws a crowd given the rivalry between the two nations and how many English expats there are here.
As a whole though interest in test cricket seems to be declining, both from a spectator point of view and from the players.
