He's turning fairly regulation stuff into hard catches. As Gilchrist has been saying in commentary, these diving catches are only that because he's not moving his feet early or anticipating the direction.

Absolutely loving the new, more attacking Travis Head. This style suits him so much better, he does play some great shots off even good balls, so he should back himself. Not too many rash shots, just real firepower

@@justus009 Yep, his technique is just perfect for these conditions. Probably doesn't need to be said but he will have to find a way to adapt to foreign conditions because this technique is far too open for a place like England, but my word he can be destructive in Australia.

I was just thinking the same thing. Compact, punchy style, very strong square of the wicket, very good at counterattacking and hits the ball HARD. Doesn't have as many shots as Gilchrist, but he does remind me of him.

What else does Root need to do for his team to start performing at a semi-decent level? This guy has been carrying the English batting on his shoulders throughout the past couple of years, been probably the only decent fielder in the slip cordon and elsewhere, bowled his heart out to take a 5-fer earlier this year in India (the pink ball test), and has captained his team only to forlornly see them sink to defeat after defeat after defeat. This must be absolutely morale-shattering for any cricketer, let alone one with so much courage and of such high caliber -- let's not forget that he brought himself on to bowl in the absence of a specialist spinner after he had been injured and taken to the hospital earlier in the day; watched his bowlers get pummelled to all parts of the Adelaide Oval; watched on painstakingly as the top order once again failed, as has become the norm; and took an absolute battering from Starc late in the day before finally getting out. That he had the tenacity and gumption to even come out to bat after such a torrid series (and indeed, the past couple of years or so) should be enough to motivate the whole of the English team to put up some sort of a fight in the remainder of the series. Because, at the moment, they look like high-school kids put in charge of running a multi-million dollar business. If any other top-class captain had been given the resources that Root has had at his disposal during this period, they'd have resigned a long time ago. It is a testimony to this man's character that he's managed to remain this stoic, and is still willing to captain a clearly deflated side, who can't bat, bowl or field for their lives. English Cricket deserves better. Root deserves better!

That isn't the case with Pujara(who hasn't scored a century in the last 3 years or so). Nobody doubted Pujara until now. Why so? It's because in the past, he used to score runs as well.
