    98% of audio I could not interpret, but 2% I understood - this video is another example of what one can learn - the small glimpse of the man tells me he may be retired or close to it - the more a person can do on his or her own, the more independent he or she is - I am just on the other side of the door to retirement - in my retirement, I want to do as much for myself and at as little cost to enjoy what I want - saving money and filling my twilight years being self-reliant will allow me to enjoy time with my children and grandchildren and have a little extra money to spoil them - this is a great video - I completely agree with C.Allen Marrow (below) - it isn't what you can afford - it's what you want to spend and how you want to spend it - thank you Arvid Jacobsen

    Hi Arvid, Love the video. I used your ideas except had a 2 ton hydraulic car jack that I used Made most of my sawdust using a 10" miter saw with 24 tooth blade. Green wood makes small chips very near Bradley chip size, although dry does work. For anyone interested, potato starch is usually found in natural/organic section of supermarkets. Be sure to get starch hot enough to make a gel. Have made several hundred pucks using this system & the smoke fine plus feed through system fine too.
    Again thanks Arvid

    Hi Eddy, they are hole saws. which you use with a drill to drill holes in wood or metal. you can buy these from good hardware stores. the plate and shaft look custom made. but very easy to make. first, take your hole saw and drill a hole in a sheet of metal, stainless steel is best but mild steel will do. then take the off-cut circle, which will be inside the drill bit after cutting, this will make the plate, and attach a bolt through its centre hole, this will form its shaft.

    Brilliant video! The potato flour referred to in the film is known as Potato Starch in the UK if that helps people. The stuff binding Bradley bisquettes is Hydrolysed Collagen (gelatine, i.e protein) by using potato starch like Arvidful, starch being a carbohydrate much like the cellulose in wood is too, you dont get burnt protein smoke, but a cleaner purer smoke in my opinion. Great video, happy smoking! :D

    its very cool knowing that a person can make these himself, but after the tooling and time it takes to make these, you would spend a good amount of time making enough of these to even do hours of smoking, considering that one of those disc smoke for only 20 mins before the bradley pushes it off the heating element.

    • @LeroyZJenkins
      @LeroyZJenkins 9 лет назад

      +Eric Srisavaththay that's not the point -- some people just like doing things for themselves/being self sufficient -- most people think why make something myself when i can just buy it -- this guy thinks why buy something when i can just make it myself

    • @LucasKirbyMusic
      @LucasKirbyMusic 8 лет назад

      +Eric Srisavaththay I was able to make these bisquettes without the electric jack he used, but with the same hole saws. I bought a portable vice and a couple hole saws (just as he used) and I spent 20 bucks on the materials and can use them for other projects. The pucks from the store average about 50 cents a piece. The pucks are fed every 20 minutes. When I smoke a turkey, I'm putting about 6 hours of smoke on at a time. I do about 5 of them just for thanksgiving, which equates to about $45 just to put smoke on the birds. Making the pucks myself literally costs me only $4.50 on average for all 5 birds. Well worth the money saved, and fun to know that you did something for yourself.

    • @Sapien23
      @Sapien23 8 лет назад

      3 per hour. it takes about 36 to smoke a 12 hour brisket, so at $20 for 48, you are looking at $15 to smoke a brisket with bradley bisquettes. That's kinda costly when you think about it, so if you could throw 200 of these together at once, you are looking at 65 hours of smoking for pretty damn cheap, vs about $100 for the Bradley brand.

    Thank you for writing back. I expect my electric jack tomorrow, Its hard to find Alder sawdust, I kept searching and found the company that supplies Bradley, So I will be ordering its $12.00 US dollar, but shipping from San Francisco California to Florida about $58.00 for 40lbs. But it will be cheaper that the Bradley Bisquittes.
    Do your homemade bisquittes become hard like Bradley?
    Thanks Arvid!

    Mr Jacobsen,
    What is the lift capacity of the electric car jack, and is it 12 volt?
    I ordered one from Amazon, 4,000 lb capacity, 12 volt
    amazon.com/Pilot-Automotive-Q-HY-1500L-Electric-Jack/dp/B004G5A7NU/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1381789597&sr=8-1&keywords=electric+car+jack+kit
    do the bisquittes breakup if you try to pick up before drying, Is that why you use a spatula to move to drying rack?
    Thank you very much for posting? any improvements on your methods since you posted this?
