It’s incomplete, but it can be changed from its path of destruction and negativity, as shown by how it dies at the end of Soul Melter and Soul Melter EX: copying Kirby’s smiling face. What we do know about a Void that is filled with negative energy, is not much, but it’s heavily implied to be Zero by some pause screen lore. Void manifests itself differently based on the energy it gathers around itself as an egg, and that energy determines how it pops out. If it’s overwhelmingly good energy, you get the Pink Demon, if it’s neutral, you get the barely sentient Gooey, and if it’s negative, you get something along the lines of Dark Matter or Zero. At least, that’s what we know right now.

I actually have this funny little """theory"""/headcanon that across all possible worlds in games, if there is a black, powerful substance of vague but great power, or if a void is metioned in a game, it's the same Void from Hollow Knight, just appearing in slightly different forms depending on the universe it's in. The Void that Gaster is stuck in? Same Void. The strange and unusual, "life-giving", magic Ink in Bendy and The Ink Machine? Also Void. Haven't found many other examples yet, but it's fun to think about it, like, a thing connecting different games' universes together.
