Does anyone feel like: You know what to do at the beginning, and you have an ending in your mind already, but can't connect it together?? The amount of times I have it, is… *immeasurable*
I know it's been months but I have kind of the opposite problem. I sort of vaguely have a beginning, I know how I want most of the middle story to go/be about, but the ending escapes me! I know it's because I myself am unsure on the right answer/message for the themes I would implement in the story [if I ever wrote it, which rn I doubt it], but nevertheless no conclusion is satisfying enough for me. I think this is why some shows or books are affected by the "great story, meh ending" syndrome, they push past their writing block hoping they'll figure it out by the end but they never do. Ugh.
@@LoreCatan What helps me figure out the ending is not deciding "how" it ends, but "when" it ends. Like "Harry Potter series end WHEN the big villain is defeated." It seems obvious, but whenever I have trouble figuring out an ending, thinking in terms of "when" always helps. When you decide the event that it's going to be your "when it ends" scene, that's not much that's going to happen afterwards so you basically got the ending of your story. My problem is still to figure out the middle. 😅 Any thoughts?

I tried to write a dystopian enemies to lovers lesbian romance story where two teenage girls are kidnapped by the government for **reasons I have not yet fleshed out** but I realized I liked a supporting character better because I gave him a more compelling backstory and arc and now it’s a “victim of severe trauma by ✨the system✨ loses his sanity and gets revenge” story and now I think I want to write two versions of the story
I would never write dystopian or utopia story so imma not Finish this one anytime soon I have a better story in mind that I can actually write. And yes your story sounds AMAZING!
okay so say the to Main characters are rivals and are sent on a mission by there royals to kill each other somewhere along the way they fall in love and both fail their mission and they get taken by the government for not completing there mission they decide to run away and build a home when they think all is fine a zombie apocalypse starts and they are forced to run back to the government for safety and the government decides to put them to a duel against each other as punishment for leaving. Right before the duel the Main charcter who falls says they will sacrifice themselves to save love interest. I'm writing a dystopian kinda book about children who live in an institution where they take meds to not feel emotion and then a girl starts feeling again after skipping a medication and recognizes the horror and trauma going on that she never saw
the one at 3:45 has me a little... upset. But idk, maybe some of us used writing to escape trauma and so we love writing? I can't say I like it all the time, especially when it's midnight and I want to be in bed but I'm hitting a deadline, but ah yeah no I love to write so. idk. that one seemed to mock writers or something. If it was a joke, it didn't land. EDIT: so Fran Lebowitz is known for sardonic humor, so this is obviously supposed to be humorous, but yeah, no, that kind of humor isn't the best for the mental state.
Dude I'm the type to start a project, get bored, and move on. I can't stay with anything, and I'm getting back to the doubting stage where I doubt if I even want to be a writer (the ultimate dream right now is to become an author) or if I can even create stories, like I'm not in a good place with my writing. But I suppose that's just the journey, AM I RIGHT? :p
yeah, i totally get that and it's normal to feel that way! but remember, not everyone has the talent to write and the fact that you do makes you super special in comparison to anyone else-it makes you a WRITER. you may not love your writing right now, but that just calls for inspiration! and when it strikes, you work will be a masterpiece :)
I was the same back then. I'd tell my friend of a fanfiction idea- they'd be all for it- and then I'd either forget about it or get bored and start another project. I wanted to publish my own novel and I was really heartbroken since most of my stories were fan fictions on already existing sources. It took a long time before I got an original idea, and it took over a year to completely write it. Which sounds like a lot, but then again I took a lot of breaks (school and overall being uninspired). I learned the hard way that sometimes it's best to push a project aside if you aren't feeling inspired to write it. The best parts of your novel are when you're inspired, so being uninspired while writing would make the story itself feel plain and boring. It's all about the journey. Some days will feel horrible, some days will feel awesome. You just gotta push ahead and keep that project in your head till the whole idea comes to you.
Yeah it os really nor al, I actually deleted the book I plane to publish. But something Inspired me but I forgot what. Just no that you can do thos no matter. Shoot that sounded corny as heck o.o

I love looking at writing TikToks or stuff and some people talk about having 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and final drafts and I’m over here like “Why write so many drafts when I can just have my 1st draft *be* my final draft?” ;3

Random book planning advice that worked for me recently: if you don’t know what’s going to happen, take a bit you know and wonder why the characters chose to do the thing that lead to that. Like… a small strategy point led to one of my characters changing their whole plotline for the book
I had problems with writing in the sense that I almost thought I was cursed. I would be able to get 3 chapters in and then just… stop? And then ontop of that I wrote wanting the validation of others and getting my motivation from that-which probably stemmed from my (almost gifted kid) childhood. Only recently have I finally been able to write and one story I blazed through 20+ chapters in 10 days Only after COVID hit did I realize the possibility that I had undiagnosed ADHD and even more recently the possibility of undiagnosed depression. I can only hope one those things get handled I’ll finally be able to write my stories and explore the characters I really want to
wow, that's amazing, good for you for accomplishing that much in a short period of time! and as for your health, i hope that you're able to do what you want to with your stories-just remember to take care of yourself
Omgggg this low-key made me sad when that lady or whomever said only bad writers love to write. It made me sad because I genuinely love writing and I didn't think I was bad at writing I'm not saying I'm great but I've seen much worse especially for my age. I've been writing since I was in third or forth grade and I'm in ninth grade now I love writing cause I can distract myself from whatever's going on. Also I become really attached to my characters and I feel like I'm in a different universe its comforting and feels safe. It's enjoyable (sometimes) and I'm not saying I don't struggle writing I experience writers block random distractions life exc but still I didn't think I was a bad writer I definitely could and will improve but yeah 😐🙃🙁😔😔 (disclaimer I don't have a bad living situation or anything horrible or unsafe i need to escape from currently in my life I just struggle with anxiety and stuff so its sometimes nice to have a break form feeling that)
People like that are so agitating. I know it’s been a while since you posted this comment but DO NOT let that discourage you. You’re allowed to write. Just because you enjoy something doesn’t mean you’re bad about this. Your book will be loved and if not by anybody then by me! I will spread the love of your book when it’s published, I’ll buy you copies, and I’ll force my friends to as well. Your writing is just as important as everyone else’s stories. I’ve been writing for 5 years and, honestly, the best advice I could give is to NEVER listen to people like that. Write your books. Write your stories. Don’t you ever get discouraged because someone told you you’re a bad writer. You’re allowed to love a craft. I hope you do find your self love in the things you create because writers are truly one of the most creative. It’s difficult to enjoy fantasies inside our heads whilst putting them on paper and publishing them for people to enjoy. People WILL love your book especially if you pour your heart, soul, and love into it. You’re a great writer and never let anyone tell you any different 🫶🏻 Side note: every single writer experiences the things you do. It doesn’t make you any less “good” than other authors. You can always improve, but it doesn’t mean that you’re bad
The plot for my novel is just about two knights who have personal struggles: one is struggling to find a new goal after failing to protect the king and thinking if he should have done more; the second is struggling with their wants and their dream is to be a chivalrous knight but must serve his family before any other even the kingdom. The background for this novel is a rebellion after the king's assassination and the crown prince, and since the next in line to be king is still young. The realm wants justice; everything is in disarray after a declaration from a noble house for an independent kingdom, while the loyalists lack a king to rule. The second is the crown prince's bride, who takes the title of regent and leads the war against the traitors, but finds resistance due to her gender.
THIS IS SO FCKING HILARIOUS PLSSS, EVERYTHING WAS JUST ME IN THE CONDENSED FORM OF A MINUTE TIKTOK 😭 i could never say i like to write because i enjoy creating stories, useless worldbuilding that will never be used in the actual story (or if it will even /appear/ in the story), lengthy monolouges about a character, and etc. but actually /writing/ them all?? that is a magic i'm not privy to.
You know after spending a great deal of my life thinking that I had very strange and rare problems it's sort of nice knowing that other people have them too. I genuinely never knew other people would spend hours thinking of stories and characters instead of sleeping or making fictional plants rather then doing your homework.
“So how many of us grew up to be maladaptive daydreamers that have several movie-like plot lines going on in our head at one time, can’t listen to music without adding it to our mental soundtrack for these plot lines, and are just overall incapable of living inside out given reality because what’s going on in our head is just so much more interesting.” *cries in understanding*
you know what's funny? I have been writing and coming up with stories my entire life. also I have been bouncing from fandom to fandom and obsession to obsession and yet I have never written a fanfiction in my entire life. who else can relate?
OMG 3:18 is so relatable, and the bit about the Oxford comma, too. I'm not joking, almost every time I tell someone about my book, the person brings up Harry Potter. I enjoyed the books and adore how the community has stayed so active, but I'm writing a high fantasy series, which is nothing like Harry Potter! The only things they share are unicorns and dragons, and even then the world building is wildly different.
5:20 the most relatable thing known to writers at this rate, i don't even want to know how many times i have had to reread the entire thing, especially when i misspell a name throughout more than half the book and i spend hours trying to find the mistakes.
Not to sound fussy but I have to disagree with “You like to write? You’re a bad writer” because putting my ideas to paper is the most rewarding part! And if we’re following that logic I guess it makes Tolkien a bad writer

Why did I think that sounded like a normal conversation at all-" 😭
Whenever i write a story i tend to get attached to the characters and temd to feel for them and i would associatecertain songs to them. For example whenever i listen to freaks by surf i think of my second main character in a story I'm writing and i get in a sad mood.( sometimes they aren't the main character
Ok, I have a story in mind I would like to share even though probably no one cares. In a massive kidnapping in a small town in Maine, 20 kidnapped teenagers wake up in a big mansion in the woods, with exactly 20 rooms. No idea how or why they are there. No past memories, no phones, no way out. And the worst part… every night, the teens are locked in their assigned rooms by themselves. The rooms only have a mirror to stare into, but it gets worse. The kidnapper is with them, disguising as a teenager, living in the mirrors, ready to kill and take anyone who they please… The way you know you know you’re gonna die is if you get blood on your mirror. Then, you get stabbed and pulled into the mirror. In the morning, they have to find who is missing. Once they do, the mirror can replay their deaths… Then, they have chats to figure out who it is. Then.. the accused person is sacrificed. Can they do it? Or is fate sealed? I call it, “Blood On The Wall”! I had so many problems, including me wanting to harass my pet, look outside, and the occasional writer’s block.
I would defo read that no joke because it sounds great! I do suggest you flesh out the characters with backstories so the deaths hit harder! Happy writing!

I'm writing a novel myself actually. I haven't really thought about what's going to happen yet, so I can't really tell you much about it. I'm in the early stages, however, I've already made the MC, and I already have some idea of the bad guy. I also already know how our MC; Sam Rylie got his powers despite him not knowing himself. I also already have the bad guy's motivations as to why he's going against the MC. I also have an idea on what the bad guy is gonna do if he were to get his hands on the ancient powers. Let's just say... He doesn't exactly like mankind.
Earlier today, I was editing my novel when I suddenly had an idea for a word in my paracosm’s language, which somehow led to me researching the Earth’s carrying capacity and ideal population and even asking ChatGPT to help me determine the population of said paracosm. Eventually, my mom came into my room with lunch, I told her to take it out because the smell was making me hungry, she said that I should eat if I was hungry, and I told her that I couldn’t eat because I was busy researching the Earth’s carrying capacity. I’m so glad that my entire family is made up of nerds. Also, ChatGPT told me “in the millions or tens of millions” which is surprisingly low, but I suspect it has to do with ideal population (as in, everyone being able to live middle class with the world’s resources) and my paracosm being a utopia made to foil the dystopia of modern-day Earth.
I almost dropped my phone from laughing so hard on the last one. (Also I'm kinda in the imbetween space of loving writing when it's no brain writing and hating writing when it’s literally anything else because I overthink everything.)

Way 1
The king says no and the Love interest dies in the hands of the Main charcter and main charcter wears to avenge them and there’re entire life they try to Kill the king Mc dies
Or
Way 2
King says yes they live under the government protection and the king passes away to a fatal illness and love interest is given the throne years later they have 2 children but Mc is slow,y dying and Child 1 kill
4:56 that is so specific and so accurate. I have never felt more called out in my entire life, and I am not even joking.
Late to reply, but saaaame!! 0_o
I know, I feel really upset right now, the is THE MOST called out I've ever been, and that's saying something
I laughed when she said all of that. I never had been called out so much, it feels weird to know that there are other people who do the same as me
Same.
I don't understand why she had to call me out like that though...
I'm writing a dystopian kinda book about children who live in an institution where they take meds to not feel emotion and then a girl starts feeling again after skipping a medication and recognizes the horror and trauma going on that she never saw
omg i love this SO MUCH!! I'm writing a dystopian too :)
ooh that sounds so interesting and has so much potential! I wish you good luck on writing ^^
Omg that sounds like it would be an amazing book! If you publish it in the future, i would love to read it.
Thats the plot of a netflix show. Level 16, i think?
sounds AMAZING
The thing about adding songs you listen to, to fictional stories in your head IS SO TRUE I THOUGHT I WAS THE ONLY ONE WHO DID THAT 😭
If I could as music to my book, I would 😂😭
the one at 3:45 has me a little...
True tho 😂
This was so fun and satisfying to watch cuz no one these days are making tik toks on writers...
And then there's THAT ONE WRITER wondering:
"Why?"
Yo, are we the same person or something?
This is literally me-
Yeah it os really nor al, I actually deleted the book I plane to publish. But something Inspired me but I forgot what. Just no that you can do thos no matter. Shoot that sounded corny as heck o.o
1:16 a good hack I've learned for doing this is also:
1) to literally just keysmash
2) beak up keysmash into bite-sized portions
3) Tidy up with vowels or apostrophes
4) Take whatever words sound nice!
It's how I got my fantasy world, "A'gauer"
I love looking at writing TikToks or stuff and some people talk about having 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and final drafts and I’m over here like “Why write so many drafts when I can just have my 1st draft *be* my final draft?” ;3
AHAH i wish🥲 if that works for you, please teach me your wayss
@@honeyscribbles
I just write whatever comes to mind first and sometimes I’ll add something to previous paragraphs if I feel like it, but for the most part, what I have written already is good enough for me. ( ^ω^ )

Only recently have I finally been able to write and one story I blazed through 20+ chapters in 10 days
Only after COVID hit did I realize the possibility that I had undiagnosed ADHD and even more recently the possibility of undiagnosed depression. I can only hope one those things get handled I’ll finally be able to write my stories and explore the characters I really want to
wow, that's amazing, good for you for accomplishing that much in a short period of time! and as for your health, i hope that you're able to do what you want to with your stories-just remember to take care of yourself
I have ADHD, I think it helps my idea making, but it quashes my motivation, so I feel you.
It's enjoyable (sometimes) and I'm not saying I don't struggle writing I experience writers block random distractions life exc but still I didn't think I was a bad writer I definitely could and will improve but yeah 😐🙃🙁😔😔
(disclaimer I don't have a bad living situation or anything horrible or unsafe i need to escape from currently in my life I just struggle with anxiety and stuff so its sometimes nice to have a break form feeling that)
People like that are so agitating. You’re a great writer and never let anyone tell you any different 🫶🏻
Side note: every single writer experiences the things you do.
“So how many of us grew up to be maladaptive daydreamers that have several movie-like plot lines going on in our head at one time, can’t listen to music without adding it to our mental soundtrack for these plot lines, and are just overall incapable of living inside out given reality because what’s going on in our head is just so much more interesting.”
*cries in understanding*
you know what's funny? I have been writing and coming up with stories my entire life. also I have been bouncing from fandom to fandom and obsession to obsession and yet I have never written a fanfiction in my entire life. who else can relate?
Bro same
Ugh these r so relatable 🤧👌
ikr
yep
OMG 3:18 is so relatable, and the bit about the Oxford comma, too. I'm not joking, almost every time I tell someone about my book, the person brings up Harry Potter. I enjoyed the books and adore how the community has stayed so active, but I'm writing a high fantasy series, which is nothing like Harry Potter! The only things they share are unicorns and dragons, and even then the world building is wildly different.
5:20
the most relatable thing known to writers
at this rate, i don't even want to know how many times i have had to reread the entire thing, especially when i misspell a name throughout more than half the book and i spend hours trying to find the mistakes.
Not to sound fussy but I have to disagree with “You like to write? You’re a bad writer” because putting my ideas to paper is the most rewarding part! And if we’re following that logic I guess it makes Tolkien a bad writer
I agree with you!
NOT ME making a character that has secternal heterochromia, googled the different types of heterochromia, only to find out I HAVE central heterochromia 😭
you ever jsut experience something like a breakdown and immediately go to the computer to right that shit down... only to forget like half of those 20 minutes?

0:47 That's actually so smart! Will definitely use that!
0:19 - 0:39 as a writer, this is all so relatable
3:22 that... I feel very called out😂
The part in the first TikTok, if you are writing a book. Every author would know this. YOU HAVE TO ACT OUT ALL THE SCENES BEFORE YOU WRITE THEM.
I have accidentally watched *this* video so many times that O can just sense that it’s the same video before the first video starts
4:24 - I can't tell you how hard I relate to this... That trope is my favorite
This is the most relatable video I have ever watched. Dang-
5:30 literally me 💀
I've been writing the same story for over a year now and the total amount of words is nearing 300k I believe (so I don't always remember every conversation I've written) and my writing has improven so much throughout the project, like it's technically a second draft and I can't look back at the first draft without cringing so hard, even stuff in the current draft from like 10 months ago I'm like "WHAT? Why did I think that sounded like a normal conversation at all-" 😭
Im a first time writer! All of these are insightful and hilarious! How fun!❤
Whenever i write a story i tend to get attached to the characters and temd to feel for them and i would associatecertain songs to them. For example whenever i listen to freaks by surf i think of my second main character in a story I'm writing and i get in a sad mood.( sometimes they aren't the main character
I thought I was the only one 😅
5:16 I did not need to be called out like that.

I finished a short story today! This is my personal reward.
yay!! I'm so proud of you :)
0:47 I did this yesterday when I was writing up an early monologue because it kept popping into my head, I needed a name for a character that had only been called by his formal name (Mr. Barion) throughout the story since he was the main character’s teacher & you don’t call your teacher by his real name. I think it worked!
I'm writing. A book about these people who create a prison place that is torture for people with a murder record
The ancestors of them need to revive the place to make their vision come true (creating monsters out of their own blood and dead bones)

He doesn't exactly like mankind.

it hurts 😢
These hit so hard
4:55 why did that describe me perfectly...
That last one made me chuckle hehe
3:13 never in my life have I been called out so violently
5:00 that one hit hard
Omg one of the last ones about not existing with reality because of daydreaming really called out my entire life
I almost dropped my phone from laughing so hard on the last one. (Also I'm kinda in the imbetween space of loving writing when it's no brain writing and hating writing when it’s literally anything else because I overthink everything.)
My parents look at my search history and find 'what is the most painful way to breakup with someone' and I have to explain that I'm just casually being a writer
Does anyone else just make characters and ship the together when they’re supposed to be enemies?? No..? Just me..?
okay so i had an idea for a sci fi romance type deal- but i was in school so i was like, okay i’ll work with it later… THEN I FORGOT IT- I SHOULDVE WRITTEN IT DOWN
As a legendary writer myself and secretly famous in secret I like to say the writing isn't about making stories to make people happy no it's to punish and control people because you see the whole world is the story or should I say my story in fact I'm the main character everyone is a character we play our part for the monster that watch over us but as the main character of the universe I insult the writer by breaking the fourth wall. Just figured I say want I think!!

I so felt that 50k oneshot. I started writing a fanfic with a friend of mine about 2 years ago and our first chapter was approximately
55 pages long. Unsurprisingly, we decided to cut it into three parts after all. We are now working on chapter 4-6 and I can tell you
we do not have any chapter that has less than 55 pages, actually they range from 55 to 89 pages, at least in their undivided version xD
(then again it's 8 characters to write, so...)
That's overkill ngl, RIP to your readers
@@hammywoods I know, that's why we decided to split the chapters into parts 😅

for some reason i wrote 10k words of enemies *and* lovers for the side ship while theres nothing for the main plot.
I deadass created a whole new creature (yes, I checked on every platform and every mythology I knew to claim that) and wrote down a description of them as the introduction, but now that I've done that I lost the motivation to write the story I wanted based on them
Continue with it I'm intrigued.
