We have done all the same testing on a Sig 516. It does just as well and it didn't cost as much as the 416. However, aside from the non chrome linned barrel, the construction seems pretty impressive. The piston comes apart really easily and the safety going on safe uncharged.... thats cool

Yea like G36 rifles melting under intense fire against enemies like the German Army experienced against the Taliban. The military arms channel here on youtube does mud tests on HK pistols and these pistols DO NOT fair well at all. FN guns do well in sand and mud for some reason.
@@vanillaexplosion99 You are wrong. The HK G36 is an amazing weapon. The claim, that the G36 is inaccurate after being used a lot is false and a lie. The german Soldiers and especially the german spec-ops love the G36 and the durability and accuracy.

Too much disrespect here for Larry Vickers. Do some homework on the man. To me he is an American hero and patriot. Finest firearm I ever owned was the Vickers 1911 from Nighthawk. He had a lot of input on that gun and it was a true gem.
The Norwegian army has now made the HK-416N it's new service rifle. Great gun. clean/cold bolt. had a few missfires because I failed to lube it enough before the range day. hot barrel, but could remove the bolt and holt it in my unprotected hand as I cleaned out the bolt holder and applied more oil. put the bolt back in. rocked it back and forth a few times and I was back in firemode. all within 2min :) great rifle
Tommy Bradahl it misfired cause you failed to lube it? I have shot my standard colt 500 rounds plus dry and it never mis fired. I am not pulling the BS flag but I am reaching for it
H&K has a good design with their short stroke gas piston. Most of the gas escapes through a hole to the rear of the muzzle. This is the same operating system as on the M-14 & M1a. The Robinson Arms XCR rifle system uses a long stroke gas piston system. The only thing to watch for on the AR type rifles that have a gas piston system is bolt tilt. Bolt tilt is caused by the push on the one side of the end of the bolt. The bolt carrier group has out of alignment issues while traveling in the tracks in the upper receiver. It's best to let the bolt carrier group travel free to the rear and then forward into battery. The Robinson Arms XCR long stroke gas system has the piston rod connected to the middle area of the bolt carrier group. No bolt tilt problems. I'm wondering if a two tappet valve position gas piston would benefit. One next to the gas piston in the front. The other side facing the bolt impact area. The gas rod then becomes an inertia transfer rod.
The "feature" the HK has where you can switch the weapon on safety despite the hammer being down is kind of a con for me. I always thought that checking to see if the safety can be put into the "safe" position was a good way of telling if the hammer is down or not.
They intend to put all kinds of shit on it & gas tappet system is much MORE RELIABLE and requires MUCH LESS MAINTENANCE. I carried the M16 in combat and much prefer the gas tappet system...IT WORKS BETTER.
bullpup systems are the future. you have a compact rifle with a long enough barrel to engage targets at a distance. tavor is ok. the aug is the most under rated combat rifle in history. when we were attached to a unit that had aug i fired it. fell in love. i love the fact you can swap barrel's out like magazines. the ar platform is so popular because of all the options for gadgets.
The aug has just never been economically sustainable for the vast majority of American gun owners, coming in at around 2 grand, while both the tavor and the x95 both come in under 1700 dollars and sometimes even less if you get a good deal. Add to the fact a solid well built AR15 can cost less then $800, shoot into an MOA, and have a good reputation along with parts compatibility. Its easy to see why its so popular. The aug has a nasty tendency to have a bad trigger and shoot 4" groups at 100 yards with match ammo.
hey man i love them. i wishi had a drum with lots of ammo and could swap out barrels aand lay down large amounts of hot rocks. swap back to a longer barrel and dope your scope correctly and tag targets. i loved it. every weapon has its drawbacks. i agree they are too expensive and thats what makes it a damn shame. we need some kind of ar platform like the aug. bull pup, ejection port on either side and ambidextrous.
i dont care. its hard to speed reload but its amazing system. it makes perfect sense as well. if your familiar with how firearms work its an awesome system. the ar platform should have a barrel swap instead of uper receiver and it should be bull pup
The Hk416 is more reliable. Used it. and the only time it failed me was in -30 degrees celsius(-22 farenheit). Went from hot to cold too quickly and it froze....
Backy Mellon You see many simularaties because it is an AR15, it's just setup for a different style gas system. As far as if it is more reliable or not, the is debatable. Contrary to what so many people hear about AR15's being unreliable, rifles built to current specs are extremely reliable, and examples of them have been documented to fire 10,000+ rounds without cleaning just adding some lube.
Larry can u ask a question: What made u help in introducing a newer and better rifle for delta force how did it come across your mind was it doing your deployments that this came along
@@ohnenamen2843 doesn't matter if mp7 or 416 the trophy in Form of ladens' is the German ones but let's not forget that the most important thing is that he is dead
Seems like a bullpup design would be great for a CQB weapon. Stuff a 16" barrel in an overall compact platform. The obvious drawback is possible issues with mag changes but that should be mitigated by training. I'm a bit M4 fan though
I have a hard time getting past the MP5. Forget the 9mm aspect. That is not relevant. What is relevant is that I can put three rounds, center mass or center head, at 30 yards, every time without fail. That is how good the MP5 is. They made us run 5 miles, and as soon as we stopped, we had to put three round burst on target or they made us run another mile and do it again until we got it right. Not once did I have to make a penalty round. Out of breath, muscles shaking, sweat running down into my eyes, and three rounds in a five inch group. Raining, dark, foggy, bright sunshine, snow, you name it. And dead is dead, if it's only a 9mm hole instead of a .45 inch hole. And, the MP5 is subsonic, so those three round burst are so quiet you can't hear it from 30 yards away. The perfect weapon. If I need to take out a target at 100+ yards, I'll reach for something bigger.
***** Unfortunately for them they don't have the MP5SD - literally all you feel when firing that thing is the bolt slamming home and some cordite sting in your eyes as the gas escapes the ejection port... And all you hear is the bolt "tick" as it strikes the primer. Perfect for CQB!
***** You are very correct. When I said silent, I was speaking in terms of most gun owners language. Silence for a firearm is one that you can fire safely without hearing protection, at least for a few rounds. If you can achieve that, then it is quiet (all things being relative) I did not mean that I can fire it next to a sleeping baby and not wake her up. That is just in the movies.
***** When I carried the MP5, it was of course military issue, and it was not that loud. Not super quiet, but not ear hurting loud. Maybe that was just youth. Young ears and a young brain interpret things differently.
Decreases accuracy. Military weapons are not for leisurely shooting or prolonged life, they're supposed to be tack drivers for the missions theyre used on.
+TheMikedomann Again, you do not know what you are talking about. The M16 and M4, as well as practically every other service rifle, has chrome lining, with the M16 dating back to the 60s. Longer barrel life is more important to the military than precision accuracy. They reserve stainless barrels for their DMRs like the M21 and SR-25. You really have horribly inaccurate information.
Henry Reed Lol, a massive majority of armed forces enjoys gaming as a past time (yes, i used to play all the time, not so much now though) Not sure what this has to do with this however.
+TheMikedomann It means you are not a subject matter expert by any stretch of the term and are giving people false information under the guise that you know what you're talking about. Go do a little research. Really? Militaries prefer SS to chrome? Get the fuck out of here, gamer.

ParabolicBox German exportation laws don't allow chrome lined barrels to be exported to other countries because it is "military hardware" so it's Germany and HKs fault for not building a factory in the US to bypass those laws.
cause you need chrome for what exactly? right, for nothing. the barrel will still outlast low quality american made stuff with cheap china chrome mate. and by cheap american quality i mean your best stuff, which is still pretty basic compared to german stuff. just like your cars. ;)
@Merlia Santos lol what? compared to what? yeah, totoyta e the most reliable, but german cars are easy on 2nd spot. or do you really wanna say that us, italian or french cars are more reliable? or even english crap?
@willl 88 says the american. oh, the irony. your best cant compete with our mediocre stuff. whats your best cadillac compared to a benz s klass? right, bullcrap. whats your best corvette compared to a porsche 918? right bullcrap. whats your best truck compared to a g63 amg 6x6? you name it. look at your tesla, quality of the bodywork would be put to trash in the fucking 70s here.
Forgive my ignorance, I'm a total newb building my FIRST STANDARD AR. Does the piston style system create more velocity upon the projectile, being all the Gas goes out the barrel rather then a large percentage being used to push the BCG back to chamber a new round?
Man America has some dumb laws u have a shorter rifle its not alowed to be owned by civilian but if it has a bigger barrel its alowed, also a girl cant use topless on the beach but she can carry a weapon XD
It's because we have assholes trying to infringe on our rights and outright ban firearms from civilians, but they cant so they find any little excuse to try and limit what we can and can't have. Unfortunately they get away with it sometimes. And not sure where you were going with the topless thing, the right to own a weapon and the right to go topless are two completely different topics. That'd be like saying because we can carry and conceal, we should be able to smoke crack. Just doesn't work that way. Not saying we don't have stupid laws though, here a man can go fight and die for his country at age 18, but can't drink until he's 21.
Okay, really?! You CAN have guns with shorter barrel lengths, you just need a license, so you are allowed to own them, you just need to go through a certain process.
0326Ghost Because when you get too short barrel in direct iningment operating systems it causes the timing to be off. Basicaly the rifle tries to cycle and pull the empty casing from the chamber/bore too soon. After discharging the cartrige the casing needs a several hundreths of a second to "cool" (relatively). This is because of thermal expansion of the casing oppon discharge.
0326Ghost Yes you can compensate with a heavier buffer. But you can only do so much with a buffer. As expected it also requires a different size (smaller) gas port in the barrel. The issue with that though is you will eventualy see erosion of the gas port (albiet it willseveral thousand rounds to cause this) A piston system usualy has a means of adjusting the gas system which is the solution HK went with in this rifle.
erozpl01 oh I totally agree we need to repeal that bullshit amendment! I live in Pennsylvania also and I know we have for the most part pretty lax gun laws overall. I mean I own several hundred round magazines I own 4 AR 15s and I have a collection of hunting rifles and Glock pistols. My point is I've got tons and tons of fire power however one thing I really want more than anything is an m16 machine gun but doesn't cost $25,000! If I could get a suppressor as well especially if the hearing protection act passes where you can get it over-the-counter that would be so freaking amazing! I guess we need to pressure Donald Trump into doing that and we also need to put pressure on Tom Wolf. Being that Wolf is a Democrat I don't think we're going anywhere with him.

Larry, going off topic here but I'm glad to see that you're losing your weight! Keep up the good work.
i want an hk416
It really doesn't seem fair to every other gun manufacturers in the world, once you've owned an hk there just simply isn't anything else that gives you that feeling that no matter how much shit hits the fan, your hk is always ready to go..
Koch 40 preach
until you need a spare part and HK won't sell it to you lol.

Larry, what are your thoughts on the 300blk? It's as quiet as a SD but .30 cal. And thank you for all the work you do especially what we get to see, growing up, this type of interaction would have been on TV.
Too much disrespect here for Larry Vickers. Do some homework on the man. To me he is an American hero and patriot. Finest firearm I ever owned was the Vickers 1911 from Nighthawk. He had a lot of input on that gun and it was a true gem.
is the 416 carbine version with the 9 inch rail a midlength gas piston?
Got to play with an HK 416-D yesterday. It was great, until I heard the price: $17,000
nice. how powerful are the bullets and what type of caliber does it go by? glock 43 barrel?
cool rifles, can't justify the price, the mr762 (308 version) is about 5-6k.. and all that for a non automatic rifle..
it's semi auto inly in the civilian market
LOL fuck that.
It's not worth that much. Not even close

I agree I'd rather have the scar17 which you can pick up for around 3200$
HK416 vs Scar???
Wich one????
Some day when I have some spare change..great gun, saw a few back in 07 in country and those dudes couldn't say enough good things
I am not pulling the BS flag but I am reaching for it
Same here had plenty of budget ARs 10 and 15s.. None have misfired.. Dry, wet dirty.. Doesn't matter..
Probably when it was well below freezing.. same shit happened to me on a range day
H&K has a good design with their short stroke gas piston.
Great videos fellas! Cheers!
Now that the US M4 is being upgraded again WHY NO SHORT STROKE GAS TAPPET OP SYSTEM? This seems to be a major oversight by DoD.. any ideas??
Search for PVAR Assault rifle
They intend to put all kinds of shit on it & gas tappet system is much MORE RELIABLE and requires MUCH LESS MAINTENANCE. I carried the M16 in combat and much prefer the gas tappet system...IT WORKS BETTER.
+Joint Special Operations Command yeah buddy...that DUDE knows it ALL! Just ask him.... CHAIRBORNE COMMANDO! ooorah!
Jerry Sullivan not really I have both DI and piston. The piston bcg runs cleaner but it's proven that carbon with lube doesn't affect reliability.

***** Or when H&K makes a gun in 300BLK lol
bullpup systems are the future. you have a compact rifle with a long enough barrel to engage targets at a distance. tavor is ok. the aug is the most under rated combat rifle in history. when we were attached to a unit that had aug i fired it. fell in love. i love the fact you can swap barrel's out like magazines. the ar platform is so popular because of all the options for gadgets.
The aug has a nasty tendency to have a bad trigger and shoot 4" groups at 100 yards with match ammo.
hey man i love them. i wishi had a drum with lots of ammo and could swap out barrels aand lay down large amounts of hot rocks. swap back to a longer barrel and dope your scope correctly and tag targets. i loved it. every weapon has its drawbacks. i agree they are too expensive and thats what makes it a damn shame. we need some kind of ar platform like the aug. bull pup, ejection port on either side and ambidextrous.
and despite that, no SOF unit in the world uses it. Not even the Australians, who are the only people to really use it in combat at all.
i dont care. its hard to speed reload but its amazing system. it makes perfect sense as well. if your familiar with how firearms work its an awesome system. the ar platform should have a barrel swap instead of uper receiver and it should be bull pup
which is why the SAS dumped their bullpup wonder guns for Colt Canada AR 15's.
This is the definition of reinventing the wheel
Is this weapon better or more reliable than a AR-15? Because i see many similarities
The Hk416 is more reliable. Used it. and the only time it failed me was in -30 degrees celsius(-22 farenheit). Went from hot to cold too quickly and it froze....
Backy Mellon
You see many simularaties because it is an AR15, it's just setup for a different style gas system.
As far as if it is more reliable or not, the is debatable. Contrary to what so many people hear about AR15's being unreliable, rifles built to current specs are extremely reliable, and examples of them have been documented to fire 10,000+ rounds without cleaning just adding some lube.

I love your videos Larry, much respect for what you did for Our country, BUT these weapons are more expensive that both SCAR variations.
I wish they had 416 a5 11" barrel for civilian
Except. Just call it a pistol
***** You know what I mean. No silencer is that good, but compared to the sound of a normal gunshot, it is virtually silent, That is all I meant.
***** Have you actually ever shot an MP5?
416 is my fav. Loved firing it at Battlefield Vegas
Had me till no chrome lining. Sticking with Daniel Defense.
+TheMikedomann Oh, I just looked at your channel and now I know why. You're a little gamer baby. Cool, got it

Forgive my ignorance, I'm a total newb building my FIRST STANDARD AR. Does the piston style system create more velocity upon the projectile, being all the

No - same velocity for all intents and purposes
Man America has some dumb laws u have a shorter rifle its not alowed to be owned by civilian but if it has a bigger barrel its alowed, also a girl cant use topless on the beach but she can carry a weapon XD
Man still dumb laws and i can easily hide a m416 in a bigjacket
It's because we have assholes trying to infringe on our rights and outright ban firearms from civilians, but they cant so they find any little excuse to try and limit what we can and can't have. Unfortunately they get away with it sometimes.
And not sure where you were going with the topless thing, the right to own a weapon and the right to go topless are two completely different topics. That'd be like saying because we can carry and conceal, we should be able to smoke crack. Just doesn't work that way.
Not saying we don't have stupid laws though, here a man can go fight and die for his country at age 18, but can't drink until he's 21.

We need to get that MR556 in a 10.5" pistol format!
newer 416 have 11 in Barrel length. The older 416 has a 10.4 in barrel lenght.
Why not put a shorter barrel on an M4???
0326Ghost Because when you get too short barrel in direct iningment operating systems it causes the timing to be off. Basicaly the rifle tries to cycle and pull the empty casing from the chamber/bore too soon. After discharging the cartrige the casing needs a several hundreths of a second to "cool" (relatively). This is because of thermal expansion of the casing oppon discharge.
fakemail4suckers But isnt that compensated for? with buffers & gas/or piston like in the AR15 pistol or the MK18?
0326Ghost Yes you can compensate with a heavier buffer. But you can only do so much with a buffer. As expected it also requires a different size (smaller) gas port in the barrel. The issue with that though is you will eventualy see erosion of the gas port (albiet it willseveral thousand rounds to cause this)
A piston system usualy has a means of adjusting the gas system which is the solution HK went with in this rifle.
Okay so what do you think about the Colt piston 6940P or the piston conversion kits
fakemail4suckers Okay so what do you think about the Colt piston 6940P or the piston conversion kits
so the only 2 differences are the barrel and there being a tool to open up the civi variant?

erozpl01 oh I totally agree we need to repeal that bullshit amendment! I live in Pennsylvania also and I know we have for the most part pretty lax gun laws overall. I mean I own several hundred round magazines I own 4 AR 15s and I have a collection of hunting rifles and Glock pistols. If I could get a suppressor as well especially if the hearing protection act passes where you can get it over-the-counter that would be so freaking amazing! @@vanillaexplosion99 He didn't strictly invent the High Power actually.
