  • Chad from Adventure Designs www.advdesigns.... shares his testimonial of this new Adventure Tire from Michelin called the Anakee Wild. See the Anakee Wild here:
    www.advdesigns....
    This set of tires has turned out to be what we call a "real world adventure tire" capable of riding across the USA through Canada, up into Alaska and home ... before needing to be replaced. Seriously, the first set we have tested as well as reports from numerous customers have shown mileage over 6,500. Amazing for a 50 /50 tire without compromise.
    Thanks for watching and until next time, take care & ride safe.
    Sincerely,
    Chad & the Adventure Designs Team

    I have these on my 09 BMW R1200GS. I use the bike for back roads, trails, rocky hill climbs, highway and around town. Basically, everything you would do on an adventure bike and more. My offroad skills are medium to experienced, and I ride quickly, but not insanely on the open road. I currently have 35000km on the Anakees and still look fine. Given all this, I can say they are the best tires for my needs, full stop.
    In response to the complaints, I can only say I haven't found them to be true. Yes, the tires howl a bit but welcome to knobbly tires. I found that riding on paved roads with pressure below 36psi was a terrible recipe for too much noise. I run mine 36 and 38psi when alone, and 36 and 41psi with pillion or load. At those pressures, the noise is fine even without ear plugs.
    As for road handling, I have never had the bike drift on me, even in the wet. I can rail corners with averagely skilled sports bike riders without an issue. No, they aren't knee dragging tires. There is some tracking when transitioning road irregularities, but it's in no may disconcerting if you let the front do its job. Yes, they drop into corners very easily, which can feel a little vague, but after few hundred km's it becomes normal and I trust them. There is no weave at speed. If you're getting that you've got the pressure too low, or the bike loaded weirdly, or some other problem. I've had them at 170km/hr and ran perfectly straight.
    Offroad they are in their element. For hauling a big bike through gravel, packed dirt, and rock sections they are excellent. They work very well in mud and hold pretty well riding along side ruts without too much drop-in. I have lost a bit of rubber on the knobs when in rocks, which I suspect is because of the rubber compound, but it's no big issue (I did give them a hard time).
    So, if you want cafe racer tires that look cool but never of rarely see unpaved roads, look elsewhere. If you want proper adventure tires because you want to do everything with a bit of longevity, then these are them.
    Do you need to lower the pressure offroad? They are radials, so no. They act very differently to other constructions. To be fair, I've tried and seen little difference. The only time it would pay off is a lot of sand for large distances. Otherwise, I don't bother. The upside is a significant reduction in pinch flats and less likelihood of punctures generally. It also means no more faffing about between trails.
    They will not be everyones cup of tea for sure. But if you're a bit aggressive and like to do everything well, then Anakee Wilds tick the boxes.

    thank you Chad for this video and your impressions about the tire. They are out recently in Switzerland and I discovered these tires in a moto exhibition in Zurich last February. I am planning a trip with off-road sections in the alps this summer and I was hesitating with TKC 80. So, every feedback is good for me. Right now, every tire professional is still surprised when I ask for the Michelin Wild...I still haven't found the price yet...
    Cheers,

    When I first saw this video I thought the guy was exaggerating. However I got a set
    and put them on my Yamaha Super Tenere and went riding at Jaw Bone and death Valley. All I can say is that these tires perform really really well. In particular deep difficult sand wash. The radial design really does some magic especially when you down the pressure of the tire for sand wash riding. The tire despite being an "aggressive" knobbie it has remarkable flex. The knobbies even feel quite soft. I expected to tear them up on rocky climbs, but they held up remarkably. One thing the video left out is how well these tire work when deliberately breaking rear traction. They don't seem to suddenly break traction and regain traction... everything is smoother and makes for more relaxed riding (well as relaxed may be a bit of an exaggeration ... but you get what I mean). However this review really exaggerates the street performance. They are really great on dirt, but they are dirt tires that are OK on street, but using them for a track day is utter and complete bullshit. That don't come close to the traction you get with a tire like the Pilot Rod 4. Don't believe the bullshit that you are not sacrificing street performance.... you are. Just try heavy braking and listen to the ABS go nuts. That said the Anakee is far better than other big bore knobby tires.

      Well I guess you can do a track day on anything - I've just watched a RUclips clip of a guy who did a track day on tkc80's - and he didn't very well on a R1200gs.

    Do they still make the TK80? If not, do you still share your option here now as you did 7 years ago? This would be for a BMW 1250 GSA.

    Hello ,I got a set on my old Honda transalp 650 and really ,I can say that ,according to this bike's capabilities in off road , (just a trail bike ...),they 're efficient tyres .Increase stability and grip in many situations ( wet or dry grass ,mud ,dirt ,gravels road ...safer driving ,according to my small level , usually in cool ride mode ...) .And that's all for the perfect picture.
    any tyre will roll on the road , so don't forget their name "WILD" ,especially in the rain ,with old bikes without abs system..be very carefull!!
    a month ago, early February, I ended up on the ground, it had not happened to me for a very long time( road driving ,before angle ) ,very light braking and shit ! too late ! F...the W...ADV bikers need to know this ! no need to be fast sometimes
    In dry conditions : noisy , reduced maneuverability ( with time ,we get used to this heavy front ...) ,sometimes slippy on bad roads ( braking or acceleration ).To sum up ,Iwill not buy them anymore ,I prefer Dunlop K 760 called "trailmax" in France , less fun on Off-road ( correct only in dry conditions ) but so better on the road, the best choice for general purpose ( negative points : square wear and bad mileage : about 6500 km and No off road in wet conditions )
    we must make a reason, and not give in to the marketing siren song , beware of the dark side of the Wild

    Do you think you could quickly compare Anakee Wild, TKC80 and Shinko E802?

    • @Advdesigns
      @Advdesigns  7 лет назад +1

      They are all really great tires. Anakee Wild for the mileage. TKC 80 was the originator and we have sooooo many memories on that tire! Shinko for the price point. We really are blessed these days to have so many great options. I am sure that Contentinental is not so happy ;)

    Hey Chad, any comparison to the TKC 80's? Off road and on road? Wear? etc. Thx

    • @Advdesigns
      @Advdesigns  7 лет назад

      We have had sooooo many great memories on our TKC 80's but we wear out the rear every 3k miles or so... The Anakee Wild tires, we are on our third set and we are getting nearly 6k miles per rear. Remarkable if you ask us... They are "squirily" on the road until you get used to it... but they do NOT break loose. The stick well and they work. On-Road and Off-Road. We dig them for sure.

    Thanks for the review. One tyre im wondering on if you have used it on a 1200GS - is the Karoo 3?
    How would you rate the Anakee Wild over the Karoo 3 on a GS LC?

    • @Advdesigns
      @Advdesigns  7 лет назад +1

      Yes, we have used the Karoo 3 and we liked it a lot. Better wear than the TKC 80, but not as much as the Anakee Wild. We found the Wild be better handling in cold wet weather. Both are great options.

    What's your opinion on these Anakee Wild riding on the street compared with the Tourance

    • @Advdesigns
      @Advdesigns  7 лет назад

      Very different tires. We like the Anakee Wild better ... but we do more dirt than street.

    • @FredBGG
      @FredBGG 7 лет назад

      Yes they do make an ADV bike work better on dirt, but lets not exaggerate ..... a relatively modest dirt bike with proper knobbies will run circles around a big ADV bike. These great tires make an ADV bike like a range rover, but not a land rover and not close to a dirt side by side or an MX bike.

      Any tyre will roll on the road, track or gravel but to say you like this knobbly on track is harming your reputation, even if you're sponsored or selling them.

    Chad, This review is full of : biased personal subjective advertised sponsored etc etc etc comments!
    This immediately to my mind says that so will be your rest of reviews in your channel.
    You messed it up with all this emphasis on your voice tone -trying to impress and make YOUR opinion to sound important.
    This is and advertisement, not a review.
    Look what you say (just few examples)
    *50/50 WITHOUT sacrificing street capabilities
    *track day on this tyre
    *this is gonna be the leading tyre (!!!! noway after 2 years - now 2018 - of trials!)
    Don't get me started because I find another 10 points at least where your OVERexaggerating and - commonly speaking - ...BSing
    For once, it is already over 2 years in market and NOWHERE is proven after so many trials, that AnakeeWild goes so easily over TKC80.
    Dislike and keep away.
    -Dont get me wrong, is a great tyre! Just like TKC80 ...or a bit less!

      They did get better around the 1000 mile mark, but still scared the shit out of me, and when I went off road on dirt tracks they did not feel as secure as the K60's - which was a surprise. Never buying these again. TKC80 next time

    Worst and most expensive tire I have ever owned. On my Husky 650, this rear tire lost 50% of the tread height in only 800km travelled and slipped on a dry road. Utter rubbish. Back to a Dunlop a D606.
