Best gimbal for cellphone in the market. I used it today for the first time while recording video for our local Relay For Life in Douglas, Arizona. I'm not kidding when I tell you that after 12+ hours of use, the battery indicator was still showing full charge... Of course that I was powering off after finishing my shots, but that was a pause off less than 5 minutes before I started to use it again... Our Relay For Life is a 24 hour event, and this gimbal with only one charge worked until the end of the event... I highly recommend this gimbal!... 👍👍👍 Galaxy S-8 user...

I noticed a little choppiness at 0:49 . Which I've noticed with a few gimbals. Perhaps you needed to toggle off the stabilizer on the phone itself or third party camera app you may have used?
Nice review. I've owned one for a couple years. The one tip I would give people is once you get one, practice, practice, practice. You'll botch a lot of early shots, so get it over with by practicing!
Then it's kinda weird, my S7 Edge doesn't show the 4K option. Highest it can go is only 1080p in ZY Assistant and ZY Play has different video resolution option such as "Good Quality", "Execllent" (no idea what resolution these serves). I took some screenshots of the options, if only I can post them here.

Having a gimbal for your smartphone makes such a difference when vlogging with your smartphone. I am vlogging with the Samsung S7 Edge and also with the Smooth Q since July. My quick review: * The Android Apps is complete crap and unusable. * I can barely fit in my Røde Smartlav+ Microphone. My larger Røde Smartphone micro can only be inserted with force and I probably break something when doing so. * The pan motor was unable to stabilize after three months and I was unable to get a repair in Germany. Amazon was kind enough to send a replacement! I just hope that the new one will not be broken again so soon.
Hi, yes of course. The Smartlav+ fits in, but it requires some adjustment, as you say. The larger Røde Smartphone can be inserted to, but I need to slide the cradle so much downwards, that it applying some force and presses the microphone against the gimbal.
Your review touched on a key point that others miss when highlighting the bounce ... yeah, you have to factor that into your movement. You didn't see it so much with steadicams because it was hard to bounce with 50 lbs of gear strapped to you.
I'm curious as to how delicate these things are. I have the smooth Q w/c I always bring along with me in its protective case. I was wondering if it's safe for me to toss inside a camera bag (or any bag) along w/ other items and not get damaged?

Hi, thanks for sharing. I have a Note 8 and the tracking works well with my phone. Once you click on the camera for there's a dot with for corners surrounding it. Perhaps they just updated it but I've been using mine since I bought it in 2017.
No for GoPro mount, just put the gimbal in portrait. Pop your GoPro in and switch to selfie mode and your ready to go, u can't see what your filming but it still works

Hehe thanks! I dont know all the gimbals that hold phones over 6inches, but you can check out the DJI osmo mobile. It can hold an iphone 7 plus with no case. I'd double check about the iphone 8 plus

I saw some guy make a review on it with iPhone 7 Plus...and the outcome is super horrible..the OIS is fighting with the gimbal stabilisation and end up having a warping/jittering footage

How's this with Pixel 2? I got burnt by buying the Smove and it was awful and they hinted that it might be able because of the slightly rounded back on the phone
This is such a great gimbal! Unfortunately it doesn't work with my s21 Ultra - phone is too heavy and the clamps don't hold well with my phone case.. I don't want to take my phone out of the case everytime I want to use this thing so I'm selling it
It works fine with Android. The only downside is that there are two different apps, ZY Play and the Zhiyun Assistant. The first one is a dedicated camera app with some options to control the gimbal and the other one lets you adjust the motors but also includes a camera function. Both camera apps have different options and sometimes changing from one to the other is a pain.
Jorge Rodriguez I have both apps as well. I only need to use the zy play now. I use the zhiyun assistant on the first version of the crane. I see the assistant app as a way for calibration. I wish it was all one app though. It could get confusing.

Tokyo, Kyoto, Osaka, Nara and Nagoya, I can't wait! I'm gonna travel for 3 weeks in October so I'll be sure to take a lot of footage. Just got the Smooth Q btw, it's awesome although I have to practice a bit with it and fiddle with the settings to find the sweetspot of panning accelerations etc. Do you have some tips regarding this?
btw, with the Zhiyun app I can't find the option to shoot 60fps even though my phone is capable of doing that in 1080p. Do you have that same problem? I switched to an other camera app for the moment
Sorry youre having issues. Maybe try the slow motion mode? If its not listed at the bottom right where the resolutions are, they probably dont have it for your phone. Id write to them to make sure its not a glitch.

The camera works without a plan. The app connects via bluetooth. Youll just have to download the app via wifi before you use the app but is should work no problem.
I'd say yes, unless you're finding yourself in very rugged environments. Most phones are waterproof these days and have more options for audio input and lenses. Check out my moment lens video review to go along with the smooth q!
What's the charging time for this? It says 2.5 hours on the manual but it also says when charging is complete it shows a green light. I charged it for way longer than 2.5 hours but there's still no green light. I'm not sure if I'm overcharging it or if my device is defective.

you don't need to use the ZY apps to shoot 4k, any camera app can use the gimble. You just lose some of the ZY app features.

Its probably safest to travel with dead li on batteries but I traveled with it just fine in as a carry on

Itll probably be fine in a bag. Just be sure to be extra careful like any gear. Would recommend keepin it on top or on a the side when packing.

No you dont need IS. Some phones work better without it.
This is such a great gimbal! Unfortunately it doesn't work with my s21 Ultra - phone is too heavy and the clamps don't hold well with my phone case.. I don't want to take my phone out of the case everytime I want to use this thing so I'm selling it

It should work even with an iphone 7 plus.
and also don't hold it straight, it won't compensate the movement well. tilt it away or towards you like 25 - 35 degree.

It works fine with Android. The only downside is that there are two different apps, ZY Play and the Zhiyun Assistant. The first one is a dedicated camera app with some options to control the gimbal and the other one lets you adjust the motors but also includes a camera function. Both camera apps have different options and sometimes changing from one to the other is a pain.
Jorge Rodriguez I have both apps as well. I only need to use the zy play now. I use the zhiyun assistant on the first version of the crane. I see the assistant app as a way for calibration. I wish it was all one app though. It could get confusing.
Thanks for sharing. I'm using a S7 Edge with 4k video capability. I guessed the ZY Play now supports 4k video for android. I will be getting one today :) looking forward to it!
By the way, I'm talking about 4.42 regarding the ZY Play setting. And if the rear camera setting supports UHD 4K.

Android apps on most camera products arent 100% yet. Zhiyun is a little slow to update their software as well

Just got the Smooth Q btw, it's awesome although I have to practice a bit with it and fiddle with the settings to find the sweetspot of panning accelerations etc. Do you have some tips regarding this?
btw, with the Zhiyun app I can't find the option to shoot 60fps even though my phone is capable of doing that in 1080p. Do you have that same problem? I switched to an other camera app for the moment
Sorry youre having issues. Maybe try the slow motion mode? If its not listed at the bottom right where the resolutions are, they probably dont have it for your phone. Id write to them to make sure its not a glitch.
When you use the moment lens for this how did you get to balance it?
I used a combo of washers and magnet for counterbalance. Check my moment lens review (2:30) vid for more info.

The camera works without a plan. The app connects via bluetooth. Youll just have to download the app via wifi before you use the app but is should work no problem.

What's the charging time for this? It says 2.5 hours on the manual but it also says when charging is complete it shows a green light. I charged it for way longer than 2.5 hours but there's still no green light. I'm not sure if I'm overcharging it or if my device is defective.
