Negative is, it will swing when you are facing a strong wind. Did that to me when I was filming in Greece near the sea. Current version (2020) of Gimbal actually designed and constructed to be compact. So this will be bulky by today standard. But I do agree with you. For the price it does it job well. Cheers
I've had one about a year for my rudimentary footage with a gopro. I put it in there with a piece of foam underneath and then hit selfie mode ( faces camera forward ) First one I've ever had and I'm amazed at the function and quality of the thing, I think I paid about 75.00? Great review you did there.

Cool review! I just ordered this today and am watching videos to learn the features ahead of time. I can't wait to play with this! The only small drawback I can see is that you can't mount a microphone on it. But I'm sure I will figure something out. EDIT: I realised a bit later what the vertical set up can be good for. Nowadays a lot of people (myself included) do these Instagram stories (and Facebook) and that format is vertical. Also, I just got mine right now! I'm off to the garden to play with it!

"Mash" is a southern thing, my friend. I've lived all my life in the Philly burbs and I've never once heard anyone suggest that I "mash" a button. And we don't say "carry" when we ask for a ride somewhere. It's kind of fascinating, this regional language stuff. Nice review btw. I got a Smooth Q years ago, never used it much, but recently started and it's a pretty nice unit, I have to say. One useful thing I finally got straight is that a single mode-button push takes you from pan to locking and back, a double takes you to following (pan and tilt) and a single back to pan. P.S. Always liked your use of RGB accent lights.

Dude brilliant review I have been looking for something like this and I think this is the one for me, thanks ever so much for taking the time to review it because the DJI one is a bit expensive and it does not do 360 capture, but I know you get what you pay for and this will be a good starter for me. I have the one before this model (so no app, etc.), but it really gives that professional touch - combine that with a $30 wired lav mic and you can do some amazing stuff.

Jeremy, excellent video. I purchased one of these to use with a GoPro Hero 5 on a trek to Everest Base Camp this March. I've never used either a GoPro OR a gimbal, so this video gave me some peace of mind. The GoPro came today and the gimbal arrives tomorrow, so I'm super jazzed. Dig the big honkin' beard, too, by the way.

Thanks for the reply, man. Good advice on the batteries. My working plan is to be constantly charging at least two in a charging station connected to a Zerolemon solar power bank. This thing has insane capacity (26800mAh) and will be hanging on my backpack to soak up a little sun while I'm hiking. Hopefully that will keep my GoPro functional. I'll give you video links when we get back in April.
Great tip on the go pro fitting. I just bought this gimbal yesterday and it didnt come with the go pro adapter. I was just going to buy one on amazon. Glad I found your video first. Now to go get some much better footage. Thanks
Great video! Definitely I'll buy it! One thing you can do to avoid using the foam, it's to rotate the thing as it would be to film with a smartphone vertically, but put your action cam. Voilá!

Great video and thank you. I was going to buy the new DJI osmo mobile but as DJI never responded to any questions on Twitter and the Osmo is £30 more expensive. I have now ordered the Zhiyun Smooth-Q 3 saved myself £30 and found your channel which I have subscribed too. 👍
You can turn the head to vertical mode and put the GoPro in the clamp - no foam required if you rotate the clamp. As for a negative... the gimbal is great on an Android - but the app is limited. Hopefully they improve it soon.
I have a Samsung J5 Prime and the Bluetooth pairs perfectly. The only problem is that some of the features of the app are not supported on Android. The shutter button works fine. My moving time lapse works, but the object follow does not. I use the gimbal but rarely use the app - mostly because it saves to the phone, not the SD card.

DJI has copied this gimbal and is releasing their version soon through Apple for $129. It seems a little bulkier, don't know if the motors are stronger, battery claim is 15 hours. I like the black color of Smooth Q and the case is nice to have. DJI tracking software appears to be better. DJI's gimbal is Osmo Mobile 2. Great footage. I bought the smooth Q and did not return it for DJI. Glad you guys are feeling better.
Yeah I loooove DJI!! I think they make great products. Also Excited about the new Ronin S DJI is releasing in the second quarter. Suppose to have a pretty large payload, maybe around 7-8 lbs although they have not confirmed yet. All that being said I think Zhiyun has a winner on their hands with this one. Hard to beat.
I think they are probably both great choices, the DJI is a clone of the Smooth Q. Saw a review of the Osmo 2 showing it does not do full 360 rotation like the smooth Q. DJI software may be better.
I use my go pro without foam . Just rotate the clamp to portrait mode and clamp the go pro it works perfectly . Even used it while on a motorcycle without issues. Videos come out buttery smooth as well
If you're looking for one negative, here's the one I would offer. Every single piece of information that comes from the company itself is totally useless. As a newbie, I could not even figure out what the device DID! Even though I had one in my hands. All they do is market, market, market. Why so they waste their time? But when I came to these RUclips videos I found out everything I needed. Thanks, you guys.
Tha plastic handle is no issue. If you drop it hard enough to break the handle, the electronics and mechanics would probably be trashed too, so.... I just picked up the original model (as reviewed) for 45 bucks off eBay but the app is no longer available and the new app is not compatible. Now I see why is was so cheap. Very good review! Now I know how to do inverted mode :)
Just to clarify, to use it with a remote control you would need another smartphone with the App on it, if you have one smartphone attached to the Zhiyun. if you have a GoPro attached to the Zhiyun then just one smartphone with the app can be used as the remote. No matter what, this is a real cool feature and device. Thanks for pointing out the best in it.

I just bought this today (literally about an hour before watching this, as I looked up help videos). I feel you on the negatives man..So far the only negative I have is....There's a..learning curve? That's about it..I'm used to DSLR Stabilizers (the handheld kind with he weight trays on either side on the bottom), so this is a little hard for me to figure out how to use. I guess the only other negative I have is that it doesn't indicate which mode it's on, so in the moment I might have to fiddle with it, and could lose a shot due to figuring that out, but it's not a big problem.
I broke the bottom off mine shortly after buying it, the 1/4 bolt hole down below on the base broke off but being a bit of an an out the box thinker, i had some of that heat up glue generated thermo watch and waz able to repair it well enough that it still going strong, to now where I've just got my 4th axis camera mount, makes things even better again.........

I did the same thing on my gopro. Instead of buying the attachment, i use foam to hold the gopro firmly. It works perfectly.

with the gopro, you can undo the nut on the back of the spring clamp, rotate it 90 degrees and then it clamps the actioncam sides :-) no wedge needed!

If you're looking for one negative, here's the one I would offer. Every single piece of information that comes from the company itself is totally useless. As a newbie, I could not even figure out what the device DID! Even though I had one in my hands. All they do is market, market, market. Why so they waste their time? But when I came to these RUclips videos I found out everything I needed. Thanks, you guys.

Tha plastic handle is no issue. If you drop it hard enough to break the handle, the electronics and mechanics would probably be trashed too, so....
I just picked up the original model (as reviewed) for 45 bucks off eBay but the app is no longer available and the new app is not compatible. Now I see why is was so cheap.

Just to clarify, to use it with a remote control you would need another smartphone with the App on it, if you have one smartphone attached to the Zhiyun. if you have a GoPro attached to the Zhiyun then just one smartphone with the app can be used as the remote. No matter what, this is a real cool feature and device. Thanks for pointing out the best in it.

I just bought this today (literally about an hour before watching this, as I looked up help videos). I feel you on the negatives man..So far the only negative I have is....There's a..learning curve? That's about it..I'm used to DSLR Stabilizers (the handheld kind with he weight trays on either side on the bottom), so this is a little hard for me to figure out how to use. I guess the only other negative I have is that it doesn't indicate which mode it's on, so in the moment I might have to fiddle with it, and could lose a shot due to figuring that out, but it's not a big problem.

I broke the bottom off mine shortly after buying it, the 1/4 bolt hole down below on the base broke off but being a bit of an an out the box thinker, i had some of that heat up glue generated thermo watch and waz able to repair it well enough that it still going strong, to now where I've just got my 4th axis camera mount, makes things even better again.........
