Lovely stuff as always, Kirsten. Still remember many of the things you taught us in Falcarragh 21 years ago! Was down in Doolin last summer and bought your album. Hup! Cathal
She is my favourite teacher..amazing controll, talent and Beauty ..perfect is The best word, I just love The attitude, The easiness, and The effortless she plays...cara anam mo!
Fantastic wooden flute playing by Kirsten in June, 2017. which also includes one of my favorite Irish musician, Eoin O'Neill; met him recently at the Cornerstone Pub in Lahinch with "Smiler" Rush and his sister.
Not quite all "Traditional Irish Flute Music". The first tune is a Shetland fiddle tune called "Sleep Soond I'da Morning". I seem to remember it was me who gave Kirsten the name of the second tune, "The Lass Of Ballintra". The last one is called "John Blessing's", but is sometimes called "Charlie Harris's", after "De Dannan" recorded it. This set is the 2nd track on her CD "Gallowglass", which I thouroughly recommend. Great playing, Kirsten.
No Pat. I'm not looking for any argument. My point is simply that "Sleep Soond I'da Mornin'" is a tune from the Shetland islands, and not Ireland. Several other tunes on Kirsten's CD are Scottish, not Irish. Kirsten is a musician who has a foot planted firmly in both camps. I was merely pointing out that since 1 of the 3 tunes is from Shetland, to label the clip as "Traditional Irish Flute Music" is not 100% accurate, and was attempting to set the record straight - nothing more. Pedantic, I know, but there it is.
Thanks Douglas, I remember the first tune from the fiddle playing of Aly Bain. I don't care where the tune is from as long as it is a strong one ! After all, there is only good music and ... not so good music ...

FWIW I love hearing where the tunes come from, and what the musical styles and influences are.
