  • Thanks for tuning back in to the PASSIONBUILT RUclips channel! In today's video we are unveiling my new to me 1997 Mazda Miata. As some of you already know. I do have a turbo 1990 Miata that I have built but have not documented well on this channel. So we are finally jumping back into some Miata content with this new pick up! I plan on completely removing all of the previous owner's modifications and installing OEM or OEM+ components and leaving this Miata in as close to stock form as possible so I can actually enjoy driving a Miata again. Also, as you can tell from the title of this video. My Trailblazer's 4L60E transmission had an unfortunate case of all neutrals while towing this Miata home so we are also going to be doing a complete transmission rebuild on that soon as well. If you are not subscribed to the channel, please hit that SUBSCRIBE button and stay tuned for all of these up coming projects! Thank you for supporting the ‪@PASSIONBUILT‬ RUclips channel! Hope you enjoy the video.

250k out of a Gm transmission is incredible, people like Scotty Kilmer say you’d get less then 160k so you definitely got your money’s worth.

I completely agree. When it went out I wasn’t upset at all. That transmission owed me nothing after surviving that long. The replacement has been serving me well. 30k miles since installing it.

I loved my Trail Blazer before I totaled it. Used it to tow my quads dirt bikes and occasionally a bobcat to jobsites. Although towing the bobcat on a big Tex was definitely sketchy

I actually just picked up another Miata last weekend and the Trailblazer towed it with no problems thanks to the rebuilt unit I upgraded to last year. Funny enough. You would never know it but I’ve actually totaled this Trailblazer a long time ago. I had bad tires and the rear kicked out on the highway during a storm. Threw the front end into a guard rail and then the truck did a 180 and slammed the rear. The rear bumper, passenger front fender, front bumper, grill, headlights, ETC needed to be replaced and I had to put the truck on a frame machine and have the frame straightened back out. I was fortunate enough to find all of the panels in the same color as my truck in the junkyard and a friend had a frame machine straightened her out for me for a great price. You would never know it unless I told you if you were looking for any damage lol

Just found your channel, also am in a toxic relationship with a Trailblazer--I love her, she only hurts me :D
I look forward to watching ya work on the 4L60E, Precision Transmission's channel makes some great vids on them

Lmao these Trailblazers are worth the toxic relationship 😂 On the real though. This is the first major mishap with mine. I still haven’t touched it yet as I’m weighing out my options still.
I’ve actually been watching precision’s videos and they’ve got me worried about having mine rebuilt by someone because of all the transmissions they’ve had brought to them by customers who had them “rebuilt” at other shops 😅 I really want to take on rebuilding it myself but I’m still hesitant. Will need to make a decision in the next couple of weeks though sooo stick around and see what chaos unfolds with this 4L60E 😎

Who could have ever expected? A 4l60e blowing up? 😂 I've got an '03 1500 with a 4l60, oil never changed in 190k. Just waiting on it to blow up

The tranny was showing signs that it was on its way out but I didn’t expect a Miata to be the ender of it.

Power wise how do these do while towing and without towing? Thinking of selling my pickup and Savin money and getting one of these. I don’t tow any more than 4k lbs max, and what’s your mpg without towing?

If you tow regularly. I would plan to buy a rebuilt and upgraded transmission because the factory 4L60E is weak and fragile as you can see from my mishap. But since replacing the transmission. It has towed flawlessly and has done great. But if you’re looking for a Trailblazer strictly for towing. I would look at other options.

Lmao! 7 years of owning a white Miata and nobody has referenced Super Troopers towards it. This just made my day 😂

This is exactly why I bought a 5.3 envoy so it would be cake to swap to a 4l80e and I would be set for a tow pig .

Nice. I just picked up another Miata the other day with my Trailblazer and she did great. I replaced my old 4L60E with a rebuilt unit from Detroit Axle and I have had zero issues since install.

I wanted and needed to know about the trailblazer issue! SAME EXACT THING happened butcin 98 navigator. 2 hr drive to haul a car with same uhaul car trailer and was only blocks away from dropping the car off and BAM, SAME THING. LOST ALL MOVEMENT WHILE IN DRVIE, NADA nothing. 10pm called for tow, estimated wait time was 1200 min/20hrs for a tow. Leaking clear fluid under front of truck, doesn't look or smell like tyranny fluid, too clear to be oil, maybe power steering but thst doesn't make sense as to why gears went out suddenly. Gonna look through your tyranny rebuild for more info but based on the title of the video, I clicked cause I needed to know about the truck issue, not the new project car.

Do yourself a favor , get triple A . For a hundred bucks a year, they'll tow any of your shit back home for free. Well worth it, I drive a Miata, and many other 20yr. cars, and if one dies on the road, no worries now. They'll even tow your buddies cars, if your riding with them. I've even bought non running cars to restore, and tell them the shit just broke down, sad they tow it from the sellers home to mine. lol

That’s really not a bad idea at all. I may have to do that. Lol
The project car pick up using AAA is genius! 😂
