Many years ago an older farmer told me " you ain't working hard enough if ya ain't breaking something " 🤔
You ain't wrong with that statement
We spend more time fixing than farming usually some years it works out and you're like this was a short season weird
Yep. Farmers will use what they have to do a task, too often it's something never designed for the task.
That's partly true, I grew up around farming and I found that most of the farmers I work with use there trucks as trucks and don't try to kill them pulling too heavy.
A 4L60e can handle a stock engine for 140k miles without changing the fluid and filter.
0:26 "I been in this town for 40 somethin years, an I know what goes on in this town, so" ...I reckon that's all we need to know partner.
NO! I want to know WHO the other shop is, hear them called out publicly!
@@matt8863 I do. But how funny would it be to call them out?
I don’t know a thing about transmissions, but was amazed watching this by how easy he made it look!
I'm addicted to the sound of metal and tools and plastics and everything all clinking together!!
Just do a time laps build to start with. Stick a Go Pro up over the bench and just go at it.
Great professionalism gentlemen, 1 in 10,000!
My jaw just dropped watching that transmission get pulled apart.
Chevy 350 has less than 150 parts. The turbo 350 transmission or 400 found attached to it has over 300 parts, most of which are tiny little metal rings.
Thank you for taking care of the customer! When we spend our hard earned money we need our stuff fixed right the first time. Again thank you so much!!!!!
The world needs more good people like you guys at your shop!!!!!
I've been at it 25 years and I learn something new everytime I watch. Thanks Mr Richard for educating us again!
just found this channel i fell in love already if more mechanics were like this i would mind paying extra cause i know its quality service
Omg my brain is exploding with him just keep taking things apart.
Man this guy amazes me every time he stripes one of these down
i too am a mechanic, i don't build transmissions but i take pride in my work and i stand by it and i always want to have guaranteed work going out the door. its always great to see fellow mechanic brothers putting good work out there for people. its so rare now days, everyone just wants to take your money and run
I've worked as a machine builder/restorer and we relied on taking very many photos of the strip down phase. This is on a completely different level, much respect.
I can hear the doors closing on the other ship now. What a difference y guys are there in Texas.
When a builder states that the transmission is [built].... He is referring that most parts are included and the bolts are tight.
@SaltedCuredBovineSticks LLC well, everything except the bell housing bolts
The old adage: Fool me once, shame on you; fool me twice, shame on me.
I'm a retired economist, but I've still done a boatload of different car/motorcycle work. *Loved* this vid -- truly 'watching a master at work.' Nicely done, sir.
Now thats a master Mechanic , someone that has the skill and the knowledge to do a work that only a few people can do with such pride and precision .
He just throws everything in a pile when explaining and disassembling 😂. This guy could do this with his eyes closed
"My beloved wife", smart man dont pee off the wife, wifes always right even whens shes wrong, happy wife stress free life
Great video showing a true CRAFTSMAN at work!
Richard a young mechanic here and just by watching a couple of your videos you can tell you take Pride in your work
This no-nonsense video demonstrates that those that can't do; teach. He does both. You're a rare one, sir. Excelsior to you!!
Wow that’s a good find. Clean up someone’s mess ups
You are honestly the best I have ever seen trans man 🤘👏👏
One thing i learned from this channel, i can take apart a trans with 4 tools.. 🤣🤣🤣
As a builder and parts salesman stock bands are not junk even if new. I have agreed with everything this guy has said except this. And I say that with all do respect, not talking shit or calling him out. I truly believe he is an absolutely phenomenal builder. You do not need a wide band in every build.
God bless honest mechanics for keeping people on the road. I thought I was mechanically inclined until I watched this video. Transmission work is a hell of a skill.
Here in the UK most of our car run manual transmissions, but i love watching your videos i have learned a lot from them. Keep up the great work Thanks.
Deos the manual work well with fly by wire throttle?
@@thisisyourcaptainspeaking2259
My E46 manual had fly by wire
@@thisisyourcaptainspeaking2259 Better, if the manufacturer did their job. With TBW the computer can automatically match the next gear without your input. Turns gearjammers into slick shifters without torching synchro cones.
It's too bad a lot of them figured this out right as they killed their manual options. But on the other hand, it can be a LOT harder to make a livable manual transmission that will survive under modern power levels, than it is an automatic.
@@thisisyourcaptainspeaking2259 I have an 03 honda accord 5 speed that has a drive by wire throttle. It feels just like any other manual although I've driven a lot of newer 5 and 6 speed cars with manuals and they feel kind of delayed and weird with the DBW throttle.
@@MegaDysart Interesting, my feeling is wire is likely to sacrifice feel/response in favor of emissions.
This was satisfying af to watch you work so professionally! Good stuff 🔥
In Phoenix ,AZ you can get those 4l60e rebuilt for $500.00 with the converter included. The one you had on your bench must be one of them! lol
$500 comes close to covering the R&R at a reputable shop.
Guessing the “rebuild” is a pressure washer, silver rattle can paint, and a pint of Lucas tranny syrup down the dipstick.
I paid $700 for one. 99 suburban that I got for free - wish me luck lol
@@MegaDysart If you got I used one , is going to be possible better than if it was rebuilt. lol
@fran nowak someone didn't catch the sarcasm
Ok straight up, it takes balls to have the courage to call out other shops in you’re own town. But when bad things are being done, it’s good to know that there are some who will speak up.
Professional, committed, knowledgeable, experienced. Reminds me of my Navy service, with missile submarines and learning from a couple of career, dedicated Chiefs. Old shipmate buddy on the west coast totally agrees and we are so thankful for the things we learned. Long time ago- '65-'68. Oh yes, if you know of a transmission repair facility in the Balt-Wash area,
20:12 Good save.
I think he has done this before, make it look so easy, amazing how transmissions works.
Advertising by gearheads for gearheads! I love it.
It's amazing how he took the transmission totally apart and throwing pieces to the side without any worry about putting it all back together, he truly is a master mechanic,
There's something immensely satisfying watching someone do something technical who is extremely skilled in what they do.
When the Transmission Lord knows what every transmission in town has going on😂
Me: "Oooh, a round thing......another round thing....some round things......more round things......".
It’s ironic that he uses an autopsy table to take these transmissions apart.
This is like a forensic autopsy.
It’s actually a pretty common way to do it. Dad’s a mechanic of 40+ years and he calls his a “wet bench”.
@iTheGeek
In an earlier video ha stated that this was an old autopsy table
Table has got a drain hole for fluids
Well duh can't you see all the blood that's in a transmission
Random Aussie Chiming in here, we got told 2048 is when they want to go emissions free. I enjoyed the tear down and learnt a lot. Thanks for sharing
People say mechanics don’t deserve to be paid more, show them this video. We all solute you sir and respect your knowledge!
