I also remember years ago , the President of France personally requested FAMU to perform during France's Basitille Day celebration. FAMU was the only marching band from the USA invited to perform.
Omg! So much sophistication, there is something about FAMU that continues to stand out from all other bands. So proud of those men and women. Great job always done!
I was blessed to march for one of the grestest h.s. marching bands in S.C. Our director was a FAMU grad & transformed us into a miniature FAMU in the 80s. We did all of those cadences, and to this very day, when I hear them my feet start moving!

I thought FAMU band was called the marching 100. What I heard was the marching 100. But what I seen was the marching 11. 6 flags and 5 drum majors. All the members of the band and in the majority of the video is the DM flags or dancers. There needs to be more individuals recording and editing that features the whole band. All the band works to be good. It’s a disappointment that everyone that puts in work isn’t featured. I mean each section should be featured.
I’m not a Fam fan but if you know about marching bands they were the biggest always have been and tables turn. If you keep up their house was cleaned out a few yrs back then of course Covid hit.
You can hear the entire band for the entire video. This is how most people record marching band performances. If someone was right next to all the instruments it would be too loud.
Tradition is holding the Marching 100 back. They need to innovate and improve. Sound quality also needs improvement. You could be so much more impressive and it’s really a shame that such a legacy hbcu band can’t embody how black culture is ever evolving, trailblazing, and setting the next trend.
What do they need to innovate in when HBCU band culture is FAMU? Almost everything as a HBCU band culture developed on the patch. Please don’t tell me you believe they need to play as loud as they can blasting their instruments, picking up more Hip-Hop songs that are poor constructed and pick up weak cadences. Sorry, but that shit is not innovative. And gets no respect in the larger band world.
