the trick is to take your time getting to the store doordash gives you a 10-minute grace period before you are considered late. then I'll get the order and sit minutes in my car because most of those orders don't tip well anyway and then I move at a snail's Pace to get to the customer might even need a bathroom break or 2 by that time I am at almost at an hour😂😂😂. any other time I'm doing pay by order with people who actually tip so they get their food fast😂😂😂😂
Earn by time definitely incentivizes moving slowly lol
Bro! I'm so glad I saw this. I've been doing this and it's so less stressful to dash now. No more speeding or rushing. Go at a glacial pace
But then you’re just spending more time working 😂. Rather just make the same amount of money in less time doing earn per order
Problem there is your logic will backfire because one of those orders that you're taking your time on might be one of those customers that do tip well and then they're getting mad at you for taking too long because they don't know what you're doing
This is exactly what I thought when I finally put it together lol
In South Florida it's $14 at 25 cents or $15.25. And here's the problem! Its' only on active dashing. When you are waiting for a delivery that time doesn't count. And 70% of the time when a delivery comes in usually longer than 7 Mile trips I've tried it twice I don't like it great video
Yea… that’s the huge downside. Thanks!
God loves you all and has a plan for your life
I did it too and it went very similar to you it seems like more pay but more miles. Reallyyy market dependent on if its worth it or not
💯
38 mins he made 12 dollars and said that was not good u spend about 15 mins waiting and chilling at the store the rest is normally driving so on average u make 9-12 dollars every 30 mins so every hour u make 20 something an hour and half that time u chilling and relaxing watch some RUclips vids and stuff to pass by time.
@@brandonwood6978this is way off
@@brandonwood6978wrong
God loves you all and has a plan for your life
In my area, we get 15 an hour, but honestly it’s way more worth it to do earn per order. It’s probably more of a part-time Job then a full-time job because if you’re going during the lunch and dinner hours in my area I normally make between $20 an hour and $30 an hour. Obviously if you go all day there’s gonna be downtimes were making like five to $10 an hour, which isn’t good.
I tried it for the first time today and none of the orders were farther than maybe 7 mins away and it didn’t really take me too far out of my zone. So it was great that they were all so close, but I feel like they purposely assign the orders that have either no tips or very low tips that drivers reject in the normal DoorDash model. Cuz hey they know they can legally get away w it
this model definitely makes you take the low/no tip orders.
My brother told me that if it doesn't give you more than 1 dollar per Mile it isn't worth
The problem is that one good tip you got makes or breaks it. Unfortunately it seems this option gives even worse tips cause you are picking up from places that don’t get selected often.
Exactly. Not enough control over your own work
"Not terrible" ... absolutely correct for someone with absolutely no skills or critical thinking abilities, an inability or desire to work with others but has a vehicle that works most of the time....not terrible at all.
Don't you do this type of work, too?
@@NathanNephew yes but I have the luxury of this being strictly fun retirement money because at your age I went to meetings, traveled extensively, mentored and trained coworkers, worked long stressful hours and basically did grown up things because that's what and when we should be doing it. So this money is above and beyond a pension, 401k earnings, next year social security and some other investment vehicles but it can be entertaining and I do meet some interesting folks. You have this channel and seem bright so im sure you have other plans and agendas. But for those that think this is somehow a career path making slightly better than minimum, with absolutely no benefits, or advancement, using a personal vehicle that if and when it breaks down become unemployed I promise its a mistake. But live and learn.
Lmfaoo you ever stop and think that some people are content with working minimum wage jobs. Plus So far on doordash I’m averaging around $20-25 an hour. Which is $12-18 higher than minimum wage where I live.
The only time i find this beneficial is when it's slow and you really have to make these orders drag out as long as possible.
I agree… or to get your acceptance rate up for top dasher or something
Or if you’re taking multiple orders at a time
@@NathanNephewCan you try this method at any time and switch to the other method others recommend instead if it's not your thing? Or are you assigned that method as a first time door dasher?
Also, I heard you can get a debit card and get paid in your bank same day? Is this true? Thank you for your time and patience. ✌️✨️
In my market EBT is $13.50 and at busy times as high as $16.50 that I have seen.
I typically make more per hour than that( around $20-$22) doing earn by order. Of course I decline more this way.
So I’m thinking EBT, although a pay cut might be a useful way to raise and sustain acceptance rates. I’m at 71% typically
I agree, it can be great for getting top dasher, etc
Bro in my area it says 17/hr and then it goes up to 19 at night
Nice! That might make it more worth it to try
It’s probably that much cause u live in an expensive city.
What city are you in? I’m trying to locate the highest earn by time to navigate too it
Mine went to 18.50 and capped at 22.50
It’s good depending on your area mine is 18.50 an hour plus tips normally the biggest thing is when your just earning by order you’re forced to take bad orders when it’s not busy or just wait for a good one vs earn by time you’re on the go 24/7 during your DoorDash because you just accept every order
I also did it and about the same results. I make almost double picking my own runs.
Being able to decline is so important
@NathanNephew they should add the tip offered. They arnt showing you the tip because most of these runs are garbage that they know will be declined. This is a new way of getting ppl to take crappy runs.
Is pay by order better???
My car expenses are pretty cheap but still at $0.30 a mile. That's about $6.50 and a half dollars of expense on my clock not including depreciation or taxes.
I finally figured out why it’s hard to find good information on dashing beyond basic obvious stuff. I knew it already, but I didn’t think about it. We’re in direct competition. We’re competing for these orders.
Some of it is also that most videos you find won’t be dashing in your area so they can’t give specific advice, but I’m also thinking I’ve seen some advice given that contradicts my experience and it’s hard to tell if I’m being steered wrong on purpose.
But I know what works for me and I’m sticking with it.
Everybody works different and in different markets. I don't have any desire to hide info or steer anybody wrong, but I get it.
@@NathanNephew Oh I wasn’t accusing you of it, you seem genuinely helpful. Just noting that there’s little incentive to give helpful advice.
I wasn’t offended. I agree with you
Just take your time and make every delivery closer to an hour 🤷🏾♂️
This model definitely incentivizes taking your time
Absolutely. I am not ashamed to say that in my market in Tuscaloosa, AL I will ride the clock (4mins) after each pickup bec at a $15.50 hourly rate here each 4mins equates to $1. With this model I am able to ensure that I always get over a $1 per mile even in non tipping situations!!
Why I don’t have by hour option no more it’s been 2 month I don’t get it I called them they say we don’t know I restart and everything nothing again anyone know let me know thx
lol yea we basically get the per offer rejects but it’s nice at night when you have to wait in drive thru lines
I dash in two specific areas mostly and one is $13.50ph and the other is $14ph and overall neither is worth it to me because I get less money for longer distance orders. Like one time I did a 13 mile order and only got $8.75 bucks and that being with the tip being $3.50. Yeah never again unless it’s a slow day.
yea, always seems to be longer distance and lower tips with earn by time.
for all the Dashers Please let us agree. Do not hit. the bottom earn by time.
Do not ever accept any offers with two drop of locations. Or offers with two pickup locations
I started off using earn by time ($13.50/hr) because I knew I wasn’t savvy and didn’t want to chance making even less than that just because I don’t know the ins and outs of it all. I just did my first stint at earn per order today and it wasn’t terrible, but I didn’t notice any difference yet. I’m going back out for the dinner rush later so I’ll get more results then.
Let us know how its going and which one seems to work best for a new dasher!
Which one did you like this was my first day
So I’ve been doing mainly earn by order for the past two weeks and it’s going okay, but I have to decline orders when it gives me ridiculous ¢50/m orders. I’m not driving 16 miles for $9. It’s hurting my acceptance rating, and to make things worse, DD will try to give me those same orders again so now my acceptance rate is decreased twice for declining one order.
But with earn by time I can get my acceptance rate back up since there’s less reason to decline those orders. Slow restaurant? I’m still earning just by waiting. Long drive? Drive the speed limit, save some gas. Going outside the zone? Then you have to think about it, but that’s the only reason I’ll decline an order on earn by time.
I think I earn less by time but haven’t done the math yet. For new dashers I would suggest starting by time while you’re still getting used to dashing, and switching to per order once you’re comfortable with the routine.
And my conclusion in the end is to only use earn by time as a stepping stone to a 70% acceptance rating and for nothing else. There’s little other advantage to it. If you drive faster, you get payed less, but if you drive slower, you earn less in tips. Maybe use it if there’s traffic or something, but I’ve found if you’re willing to take a bad order like $8 for 10 miles it keeps your priority high. I know people say otherwise but my experience is life was good with high AR, and taking bad orders from time to time to stay there is worth the time. Even if it feels bad.
In my market, it’s nine dollars an hour because it’s very slow. It’s all seniors.
The pay per hour around here is 10-12 making it basically pointless
Earn by time is the only way to make money where i live People seem to Leave the same tip no matter what
Do you get many high mileage orders?
@@NathanNephew Every one of my deliveries are mainly high mileage deliveries
Pick up a starbucks coffee, then drive fifty miles away to deliver it Even though there's one right next door where the customer lives😂
By time in Rock Hill area sucks. 95% are no tips.
These customers suck.
I'm so done with cheap & lazy customers that are also high maintenance.
I had one in Clover Saturday night.
She was pathetically rude. Tipped and then took back the tip.
Shame on DD for allowing this to happen & shame on the customer.
I called her in as suggested by another Dasher. There were so many issues with a $10 order from just trying to find her house.
Dark and no # on the mailbox, yet you are giving me grief, Alison?
AH
Would definitely recommend just going over to Indian Land/Ballantyne/Waxhaw, much more consistent
Hey I just did my first door dash in these areas last night. It was fairly fun but when it got later, DD started sending me to very sketchy places

Trust me they do it and then they leave their light off at night so you can’t see on the way to their door and you have to search for their house number forever
$8 an hr in certain markets is highway robbery. Also maybe if door dash hired employees let’s just say $5 an hr plus tips. Then that’s worth it.
$8/hr for only active time is crazy
@NathanNephew So are you saying that when we choose the earn by time option, we're only getting paid when we get a delivery. So if there aren't any orders coming through we don't get the hourly pay for that hour?
@@nicole22784 correct
Sometimes it gets slow before the hrs they will cut u off n your make only half the money sucks when that happens
In Chicago it's 16 and if it's peak pay 19 or 20 .
One of my deliveries was 22 minutes away. And I got $8. Some lady ordered groceries from Albertsons.
Do you pay for the grocery order or is it already paid?
@@stretch273it’s paid you go in and pick up the things they want they pay online and then you go to the line to check out, but they’ve already been paid for you. Deliver them to their home which could be 20 miles.
Um, 12.94 for 38 minutes is almost exactly the same income as the $35 tip that took you an hour and 45 minutes. Almost exactly the same minute by minute.
My earn by time with DD started at $18/hr now it’s 14.
Crazy. Mine has gone up to 20 with peak pay, but that’s obviously temporary
This is less than minimum wage in most places. You pay twice as much income tax as a contractor
It’s rough
I’m still trying to figure out which is better in my small town. By order or hourly pay of 12$ and the supposed plus tips. It seems like hourly pay is only good if you don’t have any downtime and constantly moving order after order. No breaks but I’m not sure
If it’s busy then I would do by the order, cause it’s faster, if not then per hours
@@lshawnl5979 yes but the per hours u don’t get paid while your idling
You seem like you have your act together. You could do and earn way better than being a lackey for doordash
I have never seen earn by time as an option. I don’t know if I’m doing something wrong or if only certain areas are allowed to.
It might not be rolled out everywhere yet
In my state is 14.50 per hour, did hourly one time a month ago all low paid orders all no tips. Will NOT do earn by time.
mine's 11.75 hourly. so there's that. but generally that guaranteed minimum is exactly what I get usually out of the orders each hour. I use it when I want to keep above 51 percent just to stay in diamond. then back to cherry picking again
Have you found that Diamond makes a big difference?
Pay by order is way better I average $200 a day because I live by a bunch of wealthy and rich neighborhoods
You’re completing these orders way too fast. You should be taking 30 minutes to an hour. Every delivery.
Lol I get 11.25 per hour, and dashed for 9 hours doing orders nonstop never having 10 minutes of driving and made $100 I’m not even sure that I got the amount of base pay I was suppose to get.
ouch
You did but it is based on active time only
I got 2 bucks for an order
Ouch
All gas
we get 16.50 per hour but only active order hours not driven hours which is bs when you dash for 10+ hours and only get 49.50
49.50 not including the actual order pay and tips
what is better per hour or per order plus tips?
I think per order is better. You get to choose which offers to take, so you can avoid low pay/high miles
Have made as much as 60 to 80 a session
damn so it’s not $14 plus those ?
It’s $14 per hour but the clock only counts while you’re on an active order, not while you are waiting for your next offer. So, if it takes you 30 minutes to complete an order, you make $7 plus tip.
@@NathanNephew but do those 7$ show in the total amount you made from that order? or later when they pay you?
Earn by time is just basic math. The faster you complete the order, the less you get paid 😂😂😂
In my area 16.45 a hour Chicago not bad
Without that tip u wouldn't say it wasn't terrible
💯
i got a $40 tip doing this yesterday so it's mostly just luck of the draw
I only do per offer average about 35 to 40 an hour doing that earn by time is a rip off
It's kind of hard to give people tips when the prices is already f
Shop and deliver customers are infamously cheap and demanding
I don't never see the hourly pay they need to pay ot separately
I just did it yesterday for 1 hour 45 minutes made exactly 35.46 haha
Lol nice
I want BIGGER offers! 😊
Does Earn Per Hour get first priority? I have done earn per order while earn by hour was available and literally sat for 2 hours in multiple hot spots and received no orders at all. So, whenever earn by hour is available, I switch to get guaranteed orders.
It’s pretty bad actually considering that was almost two hours of work so rounding the number of course your make like 17-19 and hour but of course you have to subtract gas and lunch which will always be one of your greatest expenses as a dasher then your looking at more like 10 bucks an hour
I haven't seen a tip yet so either they are throwing the no tips to the hourly or they are robbing the tips
I think hourly gets low/no tip more often
15 in my market but haven't tried it yet lol
13.75 in al. The other day it 19.50
Not terrible if you are ignorant enough to ignore expenses.
Have to account for expenses. They aren’t that bad though
Made me choke on a fry 😂😂😂 Earn per offer FTW!!
@@NathanNephew The reason Doordash is scamming people is because they don't pay you for driving back to the hotspots, nor do they pay you for waiting for the next order. Earn by time is a scan; and they should be punished for defrauding the drivers.
What kind of expenses are we talking about? Stop buying a car that you have to pay full coverage on, or monthly payments for 72 months! Go get a cheap ass car, learn how to be mechanically, inclined to fix your own shit!
@@yodead369 How much does a cheap car cost? $5000 and how long does it last? 1 year? That's an expense of about $500/mo, plus gas prices are high for old cars. In addition, who wants to deliver in a trashy car?

with earn by time, you only get paid for the time you actually have an order... not when you are waiting for the next offer
Is it even still available? I don't see it on my app anymore
I think it was for me yesterday still
I tip only $3 but the places I order are only 1-2 miles MAX… am I tipping to low?
that's reasonable, but it might be a bit low during busy times
It depends on your order. If your order was say $12 then $3 tip is good for that distance.
Nevertheless, you’re a better tipper than I am. I tend to tip 20% on UberEats, but because I only order for me, some of my tips have come out to less $1/mile while some others are around $2/mile.
Examples of each:
A. I was in the mood for barbecue once so I ordered from a place 11.6 miles away. I paid $57.54 after a 21% tip.
B. The time after example A which happened last week, I ordered Wayback which was like 3.5 miles down the road. I got discounts based off being an UberOne member as well as having a Promo discount, so even though I paid $37.52 for that order, the tip was still 21%, which Uber counted as an $8.10 tip.
How do I change to pay for each delivery instead of hourly pay
When you hit dash now it should give you the option to choose
DD sounds alot worse today than when was watching these videos last year! Are you even making minimum wage or $18/hour?
You gotta milk em.. drive slow, and walk slower 🐢
