How One Man Found 1,200 Messages in Bottles

- For the past 34 years, Wim Kruiswijk has been traversing the coasts of Zandvoort, Netherlands, in search of messages-in-bottles that have washed ashore. So far, he’s collected an unbelievable 1,200 letters, responding to as many as he can. Though it may take Kruiswijk anywhere from days to months to come across his next find, the thrill of the search and the surprise that each bottle holds keeps him going.

I met this guy on a school trip in Texel and he was so kind he said that he doesn't just collect bottles he also picks up trash and makes furniture out of them. I'm so happy you made this video

Most school trips to Texel has you meet this guy I met him too he’s really kind.
I thought you spelled Texas wrong but you didn't. Texel is one of the Dutch Wadden Islands, off the coast of the Netherlands. Learned another thing.

Wonderful man, in 1996 on the way back from euro Disney with my nephew who was 3 at the time we throw a message in a bottle over the side of the ferry, few months later wim replied, we have been writing ever since, he used to come over to England on cycling holidays and pitch up his tent in our garden. He has found lots of interesting items over the years.
Mit 11 Jahren habe ich am Strand von Zandvoort eine Flaschenpost ins Meer geworfen. Die Wellen brachten sie zurück und ich hatte über zehn Jahre regelmässigen Kontakt mit Wim. Diese Wohnung und auch den Balkon kenne ich von einigen Besuchen bei ihm. Ein ungewöhnlicher, sehr kreativer Mensch. Ich wünsche dir alles Gute lieber Wimifant (insider)
so he avg 3 bottles per month, i've only found one in my life.
Where we live would play a part...the current has to bring them to us...and I'm on the east coast of Australia...therefore i am not likely to find any bottles in my lifetime

That's so cool. I lived on the beach for awhile. I never found a message in a bottle. I did find $350 in a sandwich bag. And a 16 foot great white washed up on the beach.

New way of living life
We wrote to Wim for years when i was in primary school, i would love to meet him again 24 years later :) i still jave his letters somewhere, does anybody know where he lives now? He sent us beutiful letters with stamps of whales and thing on, and little fossils. :) i am in zaandvort in 2 months!
