    FUN FACT: According to Wikipedia, The lyrics of "Who Are You" were inspired by an incident Townshend experienced. After going out drinking with Steve Jones and Paul Cook of the Sex Pistols, Townshend was found in a Soho doorway by a policeman, who let him go if he could safely walk away.

    My favorite band. Roger Daltrey's voice is a powerhouse. Keith Moon is consistently listed as a top 5 drummer in all the ratings. Pete Townshend is a genius at songwriting. John Entwhistle is amazing on bass. The next song should be Won't Get Fooled Again then Baba O'Reilly, Love Reign O'er Me and Behind Blue Eyes. The stuff on the Tommy album should be heard as the full album.

    If you go for "My Generation," consider digging for the Who's appearance on the Smothers Brothers for some wholesale equipment destruction (as well as Keith blowing out poor Pete's eardrums).*
    All of Quadrophenia is a phenomenal album. "The Song Is Over" is also epic. For post-Keith, "You Better You Bet."
    *Only a slight exaggeration.

    Keith Moon was really a character. I once saw an interview with Alice Cooper in which he was talking about the kinds of wild stories that are often told about musicians like Ozzy Osbourne and himself.
    He said that when it comes to the stories you've heard about himself, or Ozzy, maybe half of them are actually true. But, when it comes to Keith, all of the stories are true, and you haven't even heard half.

    Love the gaffer tape around Keith Moons head to keep his headphones on! To see them live in 1979 is one of my highlights, unfortunately it was without Moon. His place was taken by Kenny Jones of the Faces. Who Are You was Moons last album with the band. A lot has been made of the album cover where Moon is seen wearing a black riding hat and black riding boots, almost foretelling of Moons fate!

  • @ericwinesett1560
    @ericwinesett1560 4 года назад

    The video quality is so great because the original was shot on film (from the look of it, 35mm film as used for major motion pictures) and was probably transferred directly from a film print to HD video. No video format approached the quality of film until the advent of 4K.

    The reason for the quality is they were making a film at the time and the Director recorded this to finish the movie. It means it was filmed on full size 35 mm film, not the usual videotpae - hence the quality.

    Brilliant song - and I love how much fun they were obviously having making it. So many great Who songs worth checking out: "I Can See For Miles", "Substitute", "My Gemeration", "Dreaming From the Waist", "Baba O'Riley", "Won't Get Fooled Again", "5.15", "Pinball Wizard"... everyone in the band was brilliant - madman Keith Moon was a force of nature on drums (the Muppets' drummer Animal was modelled on him!), great songwriter and unique guitarist Pete Townshend, the distinctive vocals of Roger Daltrey, and possibly the world's finest bass player, John Entwistle. Few bands come close.

    Love me some WHO, definitely a big part of "My Generation." The WHO were a part of the foundation of the time in my life where most things were done under the influence of drugs, specifically hallucinogens, leaving me to refer to those as "the lost years." This song and group are part of a major flashback to that period in my life. Your reacting to this song is a fun "trip" for me, thanks. Bear in mind that all this music is layed down on either 12 or 24 track tape (depending on the year) and still it is this masterful and sounds so good.
