Breakfast Club is just iconic for my generation. reminds me of my youth.
One of my favorite movies. I have it on DVD.
The good ole days........ things seemed so simple
Yessss!!’
same here. no matter how many times i watch it it never gets old.
It is outrageos that some people think about a stupid movie that I have many SM fans have NEVER seen!!! Simple Minds are one of the best new wave bands from the end of the 70's , don't you is BY FAR their worst song!!!! It's incredible how ignorant the masses are!!!
“We are exactly who you think we are, a jock, a princess, a nerd, a basket case and a criminal. Sincerely yours, The Breakfast Club.” Loved that movie then and still love it now!
The epitome of high school lol
@@Blackmjc Yep. That could have been my high school back in the mid-70's. LOL!

@@margix1172 You mad, Bro?
37 years later and it still gives me goosebumps.
YES!!!!! If you crack my head open and watch my soul fly out THIS song starts playing.
This song was huge. It was a signature sound of the ‘80’s.
I never get tired of hearing it. La, la la la la, la la la la..burned in my
brain for eternity!🎵
Simple Minds aren't a one hit wonder. In the US alone, "Alive and Kicking" went to #3 and "Sanctify Yourself" went to #14.
Otis Dylan I was thinking the same. Great band!
Loved alive and kickin
Yup, Alive and Kicking eliminates them as true hit wonders. But I feel okay with them as two hit wonders. :)
"Alive and Kicking" is the first song on my phone.
Otis Dylan “Alive & kicking” is a perfect example of what I was saying above, we loved this and, travel 120 miles round trip to see them do little pubs in Glasgow. Their music performances were just as great as their later, bigger gigs. Even we noticed that every concert they played there were more and more people turning up, Happy Days!
A great Scottish band. Jim Kerr, the lead singer, was married to Chrissy Hynde of The Pretenders. I used to go crazy on the dance floor when this was played in a club.
Jovaughn, please consider checking out Jim Kerr's first hit 'I Promised You A Miracle.'
I got to drive with them around expo 86 sight - minus Jim -- not overly friendly but I was too thrilled to even care!
Also married to actress/singer Patsy Kensit, who had a few minor hits of her own under the name Eighth Wonder.
Linda Stevenson And Chrissie was with Ray Davies before she married Jim. 💖💖👍
Turd Ferguson thanks - I didn’t know that. Honestly, I love finding out these things. I’ve only been following JV for a few months and I’ve learned so much from other subscribers 👍❤️
You have NO idea how huge this song was back in '85. Between the hit movie and this song....it was unstoppable.
THANK YOU for noticing the drum work in this song! One of the greatest drum transitions EVER at 6.10, bar none! This guy is working his ass of through the whole song!
Dude. Im telling you. The 80's. Its where its at.
Yes so true it was such a different way of life too. Anyone got a time machine anyone........🤔
@@frankrizzo4460 I have a Facebook friend in America who has a Delorean.
FACTS!!!! 🔥🤘
I believe it!
The 80s were wicked awesome & ruled by the King of Pop. So much good music from the 1970s-1980s.
Jay, you have to do a reaction to some INXS, another great band from the 1980s.
Theme song from amazing 80s movie "THE BREAKFAST CLUB". Definitely worth watching when you have time.
The Breakfast Club is generally considered the best teen movie of all time.
Aka "White Kids with Problems", they suffer from afluenza.
@@ckobo84 yes, but they are all typical problems that all teens go through while in high school.
This movie is brilliant.
That movie did not age well.
@@tammyy155 that's your opinion.
You're honestly the first person I've ever seen wrote that (or say that).
You're entitled to your own opinion.
But yes, it aged very well. Still an all time favorite classic. Always will be cherished by hundreds of thousands of people.
This song is so nostalgic for me. Man, I miss the 80's. They also had a moderate hit with 'Alive and Kicking'--which is a great song, too.
another great 80's tune~~it was a wonderful time to be young and not a care in the world :))

You need the watch the movie that made this super famous “The Breakfast Club” you’ll love it everyone does.
I love that movie and this song! ❤️
I strongly recommend the movie as well. It's one of those movies that doesn't have a lot of action. It wasn't expensive to film. But man...it explores feelings like a beast.
it still holds up decently well to be honest. Unlike some of the other John Hughes brat pack movies

This is a classic. The Breakfast Club is one of my favorite movies. Molly Ringwald and Anthony Michael Hall were in Sixteen Candles too...another classic. Oh, the memories ❤️
Emilio Estoves was in it to😊can't remember how to spell his name 😆😅😄
Sixteen Candles has a wonderful soundtrack.
Emilio Estevez, Anthony Michael Hall, Ally Sheedy, Judd Nelson, Molly Ringwald. How can any of us ever forget this movie??? It is iconic

Alright, guys. NOW WE’RE TALKING! Simple Minds were huge in Australia. I still have most of their albums on vinyl. 👍👍👍😂
They were very big here in the UK with several hits.
Ben Abel That’s because the Brits have great taste, too! 😂💖☮️🇦🇺
Molly Meldrum telling us all to “do yourself a favour”
I was living in the UK when they were huge. Sooooooo much preferred them over U2..
Then came to live in Oz and realised they were as big here too.
I have all their records on vinyl! My favorite band!
This song along with ABC "Be Near Me" was what i remember most of Fall 1985
Simple Minds were an amazing live band back in the day. Early songs included "Promised you a Miracle" and "Glittering Prize" Worth a listen. Another great Scottish band worth listening to are "Big Country" Songs like "Waterfront", "Chance" and "In a Big Country" are phenomenal songs.
Great reactions, Jayvee! BUT Simple Minds had several other hits in the U.S. that were top 20 hits, one was #3 on Billboard 100. Check out their other hits "Alive and Kicking," "Sanctify Yourself," and "All the Things She Said."
And Waterfront! All awesome songs 🙌👍
I would call them a one hit wonder, those other songs you mention sound dated today
I freaked out on Jayvee for calling them a one hit wonder......lol
A huge hit of theirs of course but they started off as a completely different sounding band with songs like Chelsea Girl. They had many albums prior to this one and they are worth checking out. The American, Lovesong, I Travel, Glittering Prize, Up On The Catwalk, Waterfront. A great band. This was the theme song from the 80s film The Breakfast Club. They actually performed in America for Live Aid rather than in England. They’re Scottish.
You should also check out OMD (Orchestral Manoevres In The Dark). Another classic 80s band. Don’t forget about Depeche Mode too :-)
Love your knowledge on music, Adam. Superior band. Glittering Prize and New Gold Dream are my favourites. So original and full of atmosphere.
Thank you Yasmin :-). New Gold Dream is awesome too. The whole album but yes, that song. The driving synths and pulsating drums. Definitely worth Jay checking it out :-). 80s was my era. I love lots of artists from that time forward but force me to pick my favourite decade and there’s no contest :-)
Adam Dodgshon Yes, I agree. I loved a lot of the 70s stuff as well but the 80s for me were my teen years so forever etched in my memory 💓
Great band to see live too along with OMD x
Yes! Totally agree! Got all their albums. Fantastic band- even if it had several incarnations, their love for music is clearly evident.
You are killing it with all of these reactions! Keep up the great job!!
Breakfast club!!! One of my favorite movies.. can't hear this dang without seeing them walk out of the detention and going their ways.. did you notice the tv with clips from the movie?
This is an iconic 80's song featured in an iconic 80's movie. Scenes from the movie are in the video.
The 80's was a fun time to be a kid or a teen....trust me!😉
I was in my 20's - it was the BEST time in my life - dancing to all the new wave punk New Romantics in the clubs - it will never be matched
Yes I was in single digits and it was super great. I loved everything about it
I was a very dark and suicidal teenager when this song was popular. I remember being in a car with my mom and this song played on the radio. She said "I dedicate this song to you." It became Our Song. After she died, I asked her time and time again, to hear Our Song and without fail, it played on the radio, played next on my spotify play list... I hear it when I miss her most, when I need to hear her voice; when i need to not feel as alone... Thanks for covering this song. You did so, just as I asked: Mom, please play our song.... As always, she did...
Always loved his voice........ Unique.......... One of my favourite bands back in the day. ❤️
Dexy's Midnight Runners " Come on Eileen"
The live version where his voice is broken!
They were on the list I was gonna do them today actually but pushed it off
@JayveeTV Awwwwww , next week I hope?
That was our wedding song!
I love these song...is part of my life
“The American” is a superb track. Simple Minds were one of my favourite bands of the 80s. Used to travel 60 miles from the Highlands of Scotland all the way to Glasgow, just to watch them perform in a pub. They really put the work in to perfect their sound before going all out on bigger tours and albums, then the stadium shows. First big gig and they were just perfect.
The old Mars Bar? Same here!
This wasn't their only Hit Record. They had others like "All The Things She Said" but it was best known from The Breakfast Club where Five Folks spend Saturday Detention together. There was The Punk, The Outcast, The Popular Girl, The Brain & The Athlete. They didn't know each other from Adam but at the end of the Day, they became Friends. They are from Scotland as is The Average White Band (Pick Up The Pieces) and The Eurythmics. This in my opinion one of the Best Songs from a Movie that never was nominated for an Oscar. It was one of many Movies that John Hughes (RIP) who helped shape and define life as a Teenager in the 1980's.
"I Love You" is a song recorded by the Climax Blues Band in 1980.
A classic.

Funny story. I saw SM live in Sydney in 1986 with my ex- husband. Unfortunately, we had had our first argument just before the concert. I already knew all the songs and the concert should have been great. Turns out, we weren’t speaking to each other the whole night. So, all I remember about that concert was us sitting next to each other with really bad vibes. 😂😂 It’s funny, the things we remember through music...
@Turd Ferguson 😂😂 great story! Memories are fun
TrVLa Qwst Definitely. We stayed together for 19 years, so it couldn’t have been too bad an argument! 😂😂👍💖

I don't think they're considered one hit wonders. I believe their song Alive & Kicking charted pretty high.
Also 'All the Things She Said' and 'Sanctify Yourself'. Good band, good sounds!

The soundtrack of my youth. This song was released when I was a senior in high school (I'm aging myself). Such fond memories tied to this song.
Just looked and the band was formed the same year I was born, 1977, and they're still performing. So we're both still kicking after 43 years.
Some more quintessential 80's gems:
Ultravox - Hymn
Alphaville - Sounds Like A Melody
A Flock Of Seagulls - Space Age Love Song
Pet Shop Boys - It's A Sin
Bronski Beat - Hit That Perfect Beat Boy
OMD - Maid Of Orleans
Heaven 17 - Let Me Go
Duran Duran - The Chauffeur
PhD - I Won't Let You Down
Talk Talk - It's A Shame
Tubeway Army - Are 'Friends' Electric? (actually 1979)
I was thinking of Flock of Seagulls too but wasn't I Ran a big hit too (not sure). I add to this fantastic list
Modern English Stop the world (melt with you)

Simple Minds have been one of my favourite bands since the early eighties (best decade EVER!!) - lucky enough to have seen them live about a dozen times over the years & they are awesome ( and most definitely not one hit wonders! 😀). 🥰😍
A true Gen X anthem. It was part of the soundtrack of our lives back then. It's impossible for anyone who grew up in the 80s not to hear this song and not immediately think of The Breakfast Club.
"Dear Mr Vernon, ... what we found out is that each of us is a brain, and an athlete, and a basketcase, a princess, and a criminal. Does that answer your question?"
Reminds me of Billy Idol. That is a good one for you to check out! Rebel Yell, white wedding and sweet 16 which is based on a true story.. just a few of Billy's great songs
I read somewhere Billy Idol was offered this song but declined.
Definitely should do some Billy Idol. But also recommend you watching Breakfast Club....a feel good.....classic!
This song was written for the movie by Billy Idol's guitarist and songwriter .John Hughes wanted Simple Minds music in the movie because he was a fan. Billy does his version of this song and when he does you hear how it falls in with the rest of his music.
Ya gotta put your arm up when he sings "LAAA Lalalala-aaah"
I got to the ls la la la bit at exactly the same time I read your comment about putting your arm up !!!!!
🙌
This song was written especially for the movie "Breakfast Club" and was never included on their records. However, it is one of the singles that sold millions of copies. I love this song, and the movie, for 35 years and I keep listening to it on my playlist. Its a classic. Thanks for listening and sharing it.
Simple Minds are still alive and kicking! I saw them in concert a year ago and it was AMAZING 🙌🙌 one of my all time favourite bands!

"Alive and kicking" (a must...it hits in all the same ways as this song does and very popular) also great is "All the things she said" and "See the lights " and "Promised you a miracle"
For a while early 80’s Simple Minds were a bigger group than U2... had some big hits.. then came U2 and Sunday Bloody Sunday and U2 took over..
One of the best songs of the '80s; the song of a generation. If you have not seen "The Breakfast Club", do yourselves a favor and seek out this movie. It is relevant to this day and this song puts into words every awkward encounter you experienced in High School and beyond.
