The singles chart was filled with great songs, and many different styles. It wasn't like today, where the songs have the same sound & chords. Our generation was much more creative.

Robin Clark is an American vocalist known for her work as a vocalist on David Bowie's 1975 album Young Americans and Simple Minds' 1985 album Once Upon a Time.
Clark was born in New York. In 1966, when Clark was 16, she and future singer and songwriter Luther Vandross worked together after school in the stockroom at Alexander's department store in the Bronx. They started singing together and then joined a 16-member group called Listen My Brother, which was managed by the owners of the Apollo Theatre.[1] Clark began dating Listen My Brother member and Puerto Rican guitarist Carlos Alomar, and they were married in 1970.Their daughter, Lea-Lorién Karima Alomar, is also a singer, songwriter and recording artist.
Clark appeared with Vandross and Alomar on David Bowie's album Young Americans, and her backing vocals can be heard on the album's title song.

You should listen to Belfast Child, which is about a bomb attack in Northern Ireland by the IRA (Irish Republican Army). The melody is inspired by a traditional Irish folk song, the song itself is something different compared to the other two Simple Minds hits you've reacted to. That is what shows the versatility of the band, so really worth a listen! Especially by the story it tells and the great black and white video that accompanies the song!

Have you done "Waterfront" yet? Simple Minds got an old ballroom in Glasgow called the Barrowlands to re-open to shoot the video. After they were done the Barrowlands was turned in to one of the best Concert Venues in the world. It still has the Ballroom sprung floor. Perfect for jumping up and down to your favourite band.

You did it...I am borderline obsessed with this song. I've always liked it but it took on a deeper meaning for me as I took a drive when my Nana was in hospice care. I will never forget that night. It was in Atlanta and raining cats and dogs and I turned on the radio...and THERE IT WAS. It soothed me and even though I knew what I was there for, this song made it easier.

Jay my friend, Simple Minds are from Glasgow, Scotland & are still going strong. Singer Jim Kerr & guitarist Charlie Burchill are the only two originals left but are still touring as SM. Their current "40 Years Of Hits World Tour" has been stymied (for now) by the virus, but they are still recording new tracks and albums.
I implore you to listen to one of their earlier tracks, "New Gold Dream ('81, '82, '83, '84)", - the German 12" Remix is the best version in my humble opinion and is available via RUclips. They have many, many more songs of untold awesomeness.

They have several other great songs, but this is the first of theirs I ever heard and it has a special place in my heart.

I was 5 years old when this song came out. So I didn't know them until I was older. When I got older, I remembered watching Don't You Forget About Me music video and of course hearing it in The Breakfast Club. I saw this video on MTV Classic channel a few hears ago. Love the song.
Robin Clark has been around for a long time. Her husband played guitar in David Bowie's band for many years in the 70s and 80s and played on many of his albums. She also sang on David's Young Amerjcans album.

Isn’t it interesting how The US mainstream dropped the ball with Simple Minds. They still had a huge underground following over there. I saw them live in Melbourne, Australia in the late 80’s and they were freaking incredible. Jim Kerr apologised for not touring enough and then turned around and played for 3.5 hours! They were very popular in 🇦🇺
