The best way to introduce this song to someone is at max volume past 9pm, in a 500hp+ horsepower on a freeway with your foot to the floor the whole guitar solo going 160+
Katboss, so very, very sorry for you loss,..Godspeed to her in the next journey,..and to you as well as you continue on this one, may God follow and hold you up, and strengthen you when you need it, you and your family, friends she left behind, hold those near you close, and carry on through this,.keep living, and taking one step after another,..Godspeed, Peace ✌
This was played at my brother's funeral. His brother-in-law wore the t-shirt he got at the Lynyrd Skynyrd concert that he and my brother attended together in the 70's.
That is so amazing! I love it when people are buried in their regular clothes. It is an expression of their true personality. I really love it when music they loved is played too. May your brother rest in peace. I heard this song at a friend's funeral and everyone was singing along at one point.
I just discovered your channel. This song was played at my father's funeral. It was the song they played as my father's casket was being carried out. This is the first time listening to the song since his funeral. I thought I'd cry. But for some reason seeing your reaction to it in such a positive way distracts me from the last time I heard it in a sad moment of my life. Definitely subscribed now. Thanks for this video. 🙂
I've just found the ROCK in my roll and soul!!!!! I'm 55 and a hip hop fan, I love Eminem but I think we ALL of us have some rock in us and this song jus made me find mine, from break dancing to head banging and Lovin it 💜🚀
Great southern rock band from the 60's-80's. It is very sad what happened to this band in losing so many members in a plane crash in 1977. My favorite songs are "Simple Man", "Free Bird" & "Sweet Home Alabama". They had lots of great songs such as "Call Me The Breeze", "Tuesday's Gone", "That Smell", "The Ballad Of Curtis Loew", "What's Your Name", "Gimme Three Steps", "Saturday Night Special" etc.
Its 3 guitar players and the lead dude wtote that guitar solo when he was 17 years old! Epic shit! Definitely watch the live version from like '77 just unteal.
The studio version (which is the one being reacted to now) was Gary on slide and Allen doing the end solo by himself. Ed was playing bass on the album.
Lynyrd Skynyrd is awesome! Got to see them live in Frankfurt, Germany in 2003 when they performed for those of us who were stationed over there. Great concert!!
Missed you loads... free bird was played at my brothers funeral last year, he was 18 when this song was released and played it relentlessly... memories of mum shouting up the stairs telling him to turn that racquet down 😂
I had the immense pleasure of seeing Lynyrd Skynyrd at Groves Stadium in Winston-Salem, NC shortly before the plane crash. A performance that I will never forget.
I just discovered lynyrd skynyrd about a month ago. I'm a 90s baby FYI. This song is awesome so many emotions when you listen to it. From sadness to happiness. Man there will never be music like the 70s again. These bands are legends. Wish my Era was the 70s to be honest.🤘
The Ballad of Curtis Lowe, my favorite Skynard tune, is worthy of your next reaction to this amazing band. My teen years were the ‘60’s, and this is definitely my type of pure, down and dirty rock with the heavy back drum and battling guitars being shredded. Don’t forget, it was my generation that made Woodstock WOODSTOCK! Which brings to mind, if you haven’t watched the live performance of Santana at Woodstock, do so. You will witness the ultimate drum solo of all time.
It's been so interesting watching your journey, Jayvee. You're so enthusiastic and positive and open, and you really let the music come in instead of putting up a wall. You can tell you're a true fan, and it's so nice to see you extend your appreciation to your friends.
1990s? Try mid 1970s. Great song!! I saw them do this in concert and I worked security at one of their concerts. Then finally meet them in person and got hugs from them. Great icons…this song was dedicated in memory of his brother that was killed in the plane wreck Van Zant brothers are amazing. Brickyard road is the tribute song to Ronnie by his brother. You would really like it. Several members from the 70s died in the wreck…the others stepped up and carried this band for years.
No. This was written in 1973 and released in 1974 long before the tragic plane crash. It was written as a tribute to Duane Allman. Gary Rossington played the slide guitar which was a trademark sound of the Allman Brothers Band. Both bands were originally from Jacksonville ,Fl. When “Free Bird” was released, some fans speculated that it was a tribute to Duane Allman, the Allman Brothers Band guitarist who passed away in 1971. The guitar riffs at the end are reminiscent of Allman’s, causing people to believe it was about him.
I consider this the anthem of the seventies. I was there, high school. Considering coming out of the sixties and the horizons that had opened up in so many ways, this song contains all that. I still cherish being a free bird.
JaaaaayVeeeeee! Great to see you again. I hope life has been good to you. 🌞 I have a playlist of 50 favorite songs I like to listen and relax while I seek inspiration for my writing. Freebird is on it so I have listened to it hundreds of times. It never grows old. The lyrics are deep and pondering them can produce great wisdom. Decades ago, a few puffs and I became a soaring bird flying free and receiving wisdom from heaven. So enlightening! Hey Jovaughn, don't forget you owe me a reaction to the song that launched psychedelic rock, Shapes of Things by The Yardbirds (perhaps the most underrated rock group of all time and the foundation from which was born Led Zeppelin).
Jay, if you WANTED to, you could play The Wreck of The Edmund Fitzgerald for Trevor. The one with the news clips, home videos, and photos would be new to you too. It's an incredibly moving version. Same audio of the song, but new video. I can send a link if you want. 💜💜💜
Aztec Camera - ‘We Could Send Letters’ From the album, ‘High Land, Hard Frame’ - written and performed by 18 year old Roddy Frame. Just listen to that guitar. 🙏🏼
Haha I love that you said this is one of your running songs. I have this and one of mine was Sweet Dreams are made of these song because the beat is just perfect for running and its just kinda underdog lyrics
Good to see you back. Life happens, welcome back. All the more special with Gary Rossington passing recently, not 1 left.😢 Great southern rock band a staple in my life...fly free LS!!❤
You're back!!!! I had no idea. I was just rewatching on of my favorites that you did. (Prince -Kiss) Hilarious Soooooo glad you are back. Hope all is well. You've been missed. Take care!
It is amazing that people haven't heard many of the 'classic' songs the everyone used to know. However it is so nice people are finding these lost songs now.

Rumor has it they are still playing the end of this song in a barn in alabama, never stopped🤣
This comment made me laugh out loud 😂

They never had a song that went to #1. Sweet Home Alabama went to #8 and was thier top hit song. That's criminal that they never had a #1 hit.
I've seen this same exact comment on almost every freebird reaction video I watch, and that's a good thing.
Listen to I need you, their most underrated song
Great video.. They didn't pause the song too many times.. Could actually listen to the song❤
Simple Man is one of their best & Curtis Lowe
Live at Oakland Coliseum is a must!!
I'm so glad I saw them twice before the crash. Great band. My favorite version is on the live ONE MORE FROM THE ROAD album
Live kicks ass, 10 songs make the hair stand up, Food 4 the Soul❤🎉😮

Glad you are back. The live version from July 2, 1977, is unbelievable. The guitar sólo is played by Allen Collins.
And Gary Rossington. They played twin lead guitar solo.
Rossington on slide
don't suggest live versions.

Welcome back Jay, you have been missed. Thanks for sharing this classic. 🇬🇧🇺🇸
Great to see you back!!
For many years this was the most requested song at a live music festival anywhere!! And the plane crash! Heartbreaking!
Their song “Gimme Three Steps” is one of my favorites. It’s a story telling song and entertaining. I love the southern rock sound.
Lynyrd Skynyrd is awesome! Got to see them live in Frankfurt, Germany in 2003 when they performed for those of us who were stationed over there. Great concert!!

💯
Agree. The beginning is soft rock. Buckle up!
Definitely one of the greatest, if not the best, guitar solos in rock history. Although it's actually a dueling guitar solo.
Allen Collins and Gary Rossington
Yes sir Ronnie we still remember you…
I'm so happy your back😁 you look great. I hope your doing good.. way too long without you🥰

JayVees like a kid with a secret before the break. Very fun.
The studio version gives you a look at what the live version might be. Wow! Perfect live song. Check it out!
I was about to say-the live version makes this sound almost tame by comparison.
He says he did check out a live version too, afterwards when they are discussing it...
What a song I played this just before I broke up with my first true love and 25 years later I am banging my bald head to this.

Makes you exhausted just listening to it , effing amazing!!
Classic southern rock. It has its own genre because it has a distinct style and sound then other rock music.
Welcome back, Jay!
When I saw them live in Milwaukee, 1974 I think, they were great, but so loud I couldn't hear for two days after.
Tose lead guitars are unmatchable. Rip Allen Collins, Steve Ganies, and the rest. Fly high. Unreal
I am so happy you are back!! Cant' wait for more reactions from you.
You guys should watch a live version of this. Triple guitar attack!
Welcome back you were missed.
