  • We live in the golden era of budget gear, and this is proof! The Gibson ES-345 Marty McFly is playing in Bank to the Future starts at $3,000 used, but you can pick these Grotes up for under $200!! I found a used one in a local shop for $100. GROTE Full Scale Electric Guitar Semi-Hollow Body Guitar Bone Nut (Red) www.amazon.com/dp/B08HYF5GWN/...
    Here are some of my thoughts and some tips for doing your own setup if you don’t want to pay an extra $100 for a pro to set it up.
    My biggest gripe, the frets are rough and need polishing (something I haven’t learned to do yet). Otherwise, this guitar is great fun!

    Just got the wine red one with the flame wood grain laminate face. Needed very little tweeking. Nice straight neck, good frets, a couple minor finish blemishes you have to really look hard to even find. Well worth the 200 bucks! Love it!!!

    I have the same guitar...mine doesn't have the fancy truss rod cover tho. just a plain cover. Out of the box for under $200. ditched the factory strings for some .9 Slinky's and pulled the pick ups and wax potted them after I played it for the first time. frets were pretty much crowned an leveled minus one fret, had to clean the nut grooves a bit and intonate adjustments, now its one of my favorite guitars. Super versatile for the styles you can play with it and tones you can get from it, it really shines as a Blues guitar IMO. Main things to just do a bit of attention to is the 1/4" jack was loose from factory, so were a few pots but nothing a wrench couldn't fix. Great value for the price tho. Great review video brother.

    I just got one of these and overall I’m very happy with it. Yes at this price point you’ll notice some finishing flaws and the tuners aren’t great. But for the price it looks great and is very playable. For sure, adjust your truss rod and bridge height yourself for playability. Intonation as well. No need to waste money paying someone else. Anything beyond that yeah maybe get a luthier involved.

    I have been a working musician for 30 years and I am really picky. I got one of these off Amazon, delivered to my door for $200 total. I am blown away with how substantial this body is. Yes, it needed some better strings and small tweaks to the truss rod and bridge, but it plays and sounds like a 1000 dollar guitar pretty much straight out of the box. The pickups are fine, a little mid range heavy, but anyone who plays with a little gain won't hear much difference between this guitar and a real 335. (I have a real 335 so I know) I am going to put some Alniko II pickups on it and some locking tuners. The tuners work okay but they are the only thing that feel a bit cheap about the guitar. The nut is bone, but it was binding a little so needed dressing (filing down and opening) Back in the day you could not get anything playable for this price, I am really blown away with the quality of this guitar. The 335 can stay in its box and keep its value while I thrash this little beauty. Cherry red, pick guard off 3 chords and the truth! Thanks for the review, obviously flat wound strings will not be as bright, but I get a really clear bright chime with some Slinky's (9's).

    I don't know what to say I have the old Gibson's and bought the Grote 125 p90..I fell for it and have 6 , of different types...they have issues,but set them up..file and polish the frets... Eventually I'm going to put locking tuners on each of them...but they are the ones in my hands,...I just do not see $3000 for a Gibson,that is 3 times what it should be...I have 6 Grotes for $1200...play the game...the old Gibson's have there own issues and I prefer tweeking these sorry to say inexpensive and disposable instruments than the others...I get tones that are in the ball park for playing with the boys, everyone is happy with the sound... especially me...are they $3000 guitars no they are $800 guitars for $300 after set up...I have gotten ones perfect out of the box,but certainly not all

    What is the Jazz tone setting do you recommend on the guitar and amp? I am a beginner; I really want to set my hollow electric guitar to warm jazz sound :(

    • @justinbishopmusic
      @justinbishopmusic  Год назад +1

      The stock pickups in this guitar are naturally warm. I usually prefer the neck pickup (the 3-way switch pointed up) and the volume and tone around 5.

      I traded out the wiring and pickups for GFS for a brighter sounded, but the original sounded fine, just a bit on the dark side. I still play this one regularly. These Chinese guitars are great these days.

    Pickups are a pain to replace yourself unless you're experienced on semi hollows.
    So add another 200 to 300 for professionally replaced pick ups.
