    I own both the Epi and the Gibby in blueberry. The Epi needed a little love out of the box but after a set up and some new string, I use it more than the Gibson. They both sound pretty close to each other, and if you're using any pedals then it's not going to matter. I would rather take a $600 guitar to an open mic night or jam night vs a $4K guitar, especially when they are so very similar.

      Hi man, I also just received a 335 and I feel like I wasn't able to extract her true sound so far.
      I am using a Fender Mustang I amplifier which probably gets in the way with all its presets and plays a bigger factor than the guitar itself, so I wonder if switching to a valve amplifier (I was lurking on the Marshal DSL40 side).
      Can you elaborate a bit on the "set up work" you did and the strings you used?

    Before Epiphone came out with the Inspired By Gibson lineup, I bought a 2019 Epiphone ES 335 Pro in Cherry new for $400. It's basically almost the same guitar except for the headstock shape. Same pickups and same small block inlay. Love that guitar.

    The thing that sets these new Epiphones off from the older models & the competition at this price point is the pots & wiring. You get the full sweep & the ability to take the top off the over driven sound just adjusting the volume knobs, both on the Les Pauls & 335s. I actually traded a US Fender Tele for my Epiphone 335 in iced rasbury tea last year. It is way more versatile, does Tele the sounds, so much more & feels much better to play. The Tele spent much of it's time hanging on the wall, the 335 gets played.

    I'm very impressed by the gold metallic "inspired by Gibson" version of this I recently purchased - even the stock pickups are good [mine did come with coil taps, btw]! I installed strap locks and gigged it immediately! Maybe mine was the "one in a hundred" guitar, but it was essentially perfect - no high or low frets, no sharp fret ends, neck straight, nut cut well - I was stunned and after playing it for 5 minutes I bought it on the spot! Compared to my Custom Shop ES-339, the stock Epiphone pickups sound exactly like the Gibson 57 classics in my CS ES-339! The value here is amazing! I think I'll be gigging this one a lot!

  • @synonyx
    @synonyx Год назад +3

    The best Epiphone ES-335 I played was the new Bonamassa 335. It was almost perfect. The laurel fingerboard I didn't like. It really should have been rosewood or ebony at the price they charge. Otherwise, this is your next best bet! Replace the pickups with some seymour antiquities and the electronics with CTS pots/orange drops and it would be a beast. All in for under a grand.

    Nice 335! Unlike some of the folks on here, I like the way it sounds. The burst I’m not too sure about, and I normally like unusual finishes, but I’d prefer either the purple or the blue for the edgeburst, but not both. Either one would work. So what other colors does this come in? BTW, I like the figured top!

    Ted McCarty was not the inventor of the semi-hollowbody guitar. Les Paul was. He brought his "Log" idea to Gibson in 1940, but was turned down due to Gibson's perception that nobody would be interested in what was essentially a solid-body instrument with hollow "wings" added to it. The concept was revisited only after the successes of Fender's solid instruments as well as their own Les Paul model, for which McCarty wasn't above taking credit.

    I have a feeling Epiphone are not really giving us what we believe we are paying for. I normally love Epiphone pickups however the last 2 I've purchased sounded like trash. The Gibson pickups in my Epiphone 1959 sounded like mud. And my Epi Les Paul muse also sounded very ordinary and the neck pickup was just far too loud and completely mismatched the bridge pickup. It didn't matter how much I lower the pickup it was still unbalanced. I reckon they're giving us anything they have on hand and are not always giving us what they claim is in the guitar specs
