After perusing a lot of videos of lower cost 335 copies, I bought a cherry red Grote, and I play it every day, over my Fender Strats and Teles. The Grote has unseated my Danelectro U2 as my go-to guitar for a vintage sound. Beautifully made, great full warm tone. I will probably upgrade pots and tuners, but no rush.
After seeing this I had to dig out my 2018 Grote cherry burst 335. It's been fully upgraded and I switched out the stop tail for a trapeze. The studs didn't seat very well into the "soft" wood they used for the center block. Would be interesting to see how much they've improved over the years. Still amazed for what's available for sub $200 these days!
I got a cherry red model at an Amazon returns auction site for $73 total. I like it, the only other semi hollow i have is an Epiphone dot. In the neck and middle positions, the grote sounds muddy compared to my dot. I switched out the pickups with some humbuckers I took from a Donner Jazz tele i upgraded. Better.
"Interesting" review Mel! Lol! Seriously though, the guitar looks and sounds nicer than the price point would imply...especially being an Amazon special as opposed to say a Harley Benton or Cort or something of that nature where quality has been proven pretty consistent. I'm actually glad that it did NOT come with a Bigsby or any such trem. Too often on hollowbody and semi-hollows it's nearly impossible to find them without. I personally prefer stationary bridge systems on all my guitars. I've never owned a hollow or semi-hollow, but the seed has been planted my friend. Thank you for feeding my addiction lmfao!
There is one aspect of guitar quality that I never see anyone cover, and that is consistent string spacing. I have purchased guitars in this genre from Amazon and had to return them because the low E string was on the edge of the fingerboard. Either the neck was not put on at the proper angle and/or the stop bar tailpiece wasn't. This resulted in the low E on the very edge of the fingerboard (too easy to accidentally push it off the fingerboard ) and the high E string well inside the edge of the fingerboard. I would like to see reviewers address this when unboxing.
I just bought that exact same guitar, got it Saturday for my niece, the action is horrible and the intonation is way outta wack, I'm a little disappointed because I read so many reviews that it played very well right outta the box, but going to have to get it set up for sure and see if it helps.
I would play the Grote guitar on any stage. I have been playing guitar for 60 years. The name brand does not sound any better than the Grote guitar. If you was born blind you would not tell the difference in the Grote guitar compared to the Gibson
My Marshall amp with 4 speakers is very good and with the Grote guitar plugged in your not going to tell the difference between a Grote or Gibson. The name brand has people thinking it sounds better. That's a lie.

I feel this. Lol. 🤘🏾
Kind of crazy what so little money will get you nowadays. It looks and sounds really great!
Makes me want a semi hollow. Yet to own one. Great review. :)
It looks good on you Mel! 😁👌 Love a semi-hollow body but miss the Bigsby, that combination is always awesome 🎸

Love the screen name 🤘🏾. U should post a video on the community page so we can check out the upgrades 🤘🏾🤘🏾🤘🏾
I'm looking to upgrade mine. Have any suggestions on which pick ups to use?
In my opinion, it depends on what kind of tone ur lookin for. What kind of rig u have. And of course ur budget.

Right on. Gotta do whatever is necessary to get those tones ✊🏾

Wow I want that guitar‼️
Bought a red one about a year ago love it
Niiiice
you think we can sound like Izzy Stradlin did on Appetite with that kind of semi-hollow electric?
Absolutely, but I would definitely suggest a pickup/electronics upgrade. 🤘🏾
Proud owner
Awesome!🤙🏾

Right on Raven 🤘🏾🤘🏾🤘🏾 morning.
If you pronounce it Groté it sounds more expensive. 😂

I think it’s all subjective. Everyone can dig whatever they dig. Lol🤘🏾
Crummy noise not music
Thanks so much.
