  • Two options are presented:
    1. Setting all support levels to 0, and pushing everything up to High Command by setting it to a 9.
    2. Setting all units to locked initially. (recommended)

    On game preferences check the block for non automatic movement of support equipment.

    Glad to see you play great game. I played Drag Nacht Osten in 1975 as an LT in Friedberg German. Do miss the DoJo. Did some great videos on this and war in the pacific that is even more complex to play but is the best 1943 simulation of the pacific war. Best luck.

    Every game as the German I ran into a buzz saw at Smolensk and got stop about 5 hexes to the east when the mud hit in Nov. never won on WTE2. Could not beat the computer. Very realistic and highly competitive AI.

    Another trick is lock all support to keep
    It from running around on its own. At start I assign stuff as you may need it especially in south. Later on I assign to OKH

    My question is how do you determine where you want to send support equipment to and what support equipment is needed?

    • @seanblambert
      @seanblambert  6 месяцев назад

      The answer to that is unfortunately the essence of the game. Deciding where the good stuff goes is all about your long term strategy, and short term limitations. You have to think ahead a minimum of three turns if you want to transfer a support unit from one Army Group or Front to another (because they have to go all the way up to OKH/STAVKA), so often when you send support to an area where it is needed for emergency use, it tends to get stuck there for a few months, until it gets used up and needs to be rebuilt.
      As for the types, you usually need everything everywhere, and are choosing where NOT to put things, more than where TO put them. It's more like "Oh this panzer division has an organic flak unit, it doesn't need support flak dedicated to it" even though that support flak would still be useful. Think about it from an opportunity cost perspective: What is the next best use of the equipment?

    If you end up - one way or another - with most SUs gathered at the Corps level and locked there, do you then have to make sure each Corps is within 5 hexes of the front line divisions in order for those divisions to use that support (and is it then assigned automatically from the Corps HQ as you use those divisions to attack?)? And if some support is locked at army level, for example, for that support to be used do you have to make sure the Army counter is within 5 hexes of the front line divisions for that to be used, or does the Army HQ just need to be within 5 hexes of the Corps HQ (and the Corps HQ within 5 hexes of the front line divisions) for that Army HQ support to be used by those front line divisions? Thanks.

      For best results:
      At the corps level you want to
      1. Be within five hexes of the attacking HQ.
      2. Not have moved the HQ (moving debuffs deliberate attack commitment, and prevents commitment to hasty attacks).
      3. For combined ops with multiple corps, make sure they go to the same army.
      Then you need to pass initiative rolls for each unit committed, with increasing difficulty for each one.
      I’m working on a video that goes through “how to get the most out of your support units” where I’ll go through examples of the most confusing (IMO) parts.

      Armies work in the same way, to commit, they have to be within 5 hexes

    Thanks for the tips! I use "0 tactics". But now I thought, wouldn't it be nice to use "0 tactics" in the first turn and switch to "-1 tactics" in the second (after assigning the necessary equipment to the corps)? Would that work if you return everything to OKH in the first turn and than assign it to units and lock it in the second?

      Yes of course, that’s a good plan especially for a long campaign. Your support equipment is not very important in T1 of the Grand Campaign, but in scenarios I would recommend just locking.

    What is the best composition for SU in Corp level and Army level? For instance 3 artillery battalions in each Corps and 2 engineer battalions?

    • @seanblambert
      @seanblambert  9 месяцев назад

      I don’t know there is enough corps artillery to do 3. I played the early turns before the most recent patch (which changed all the artillery quantities) so it might be different, but if you decide to push everything up to STAVKA, you can mostly just leave it there until the Armies are created, just give some artillery to Odessa, Smolensk, and Pskov and let everyone else do their big retreats/reorganization.
      Engineers are great for when the line is stabilized, and you get a big batch of them by August, right about when the Reserve Front is created.

      By “proposed” I just meant “recommended”, not “invented”. I figured name-dropping videos that tens of thousands of people have seen makes sense.
