Thank you so much for sharing this video! I have been looking for something like this for ages to help me stay organized. I especially wanted a way to find sentiments quickly and easily and this definitely does that! I signed up for Airtable through your link and have already started making my inventory! Can't wait until it's done!
It's incredible - I hope you love it as much as I do!
I Got it. I think I didn't yet have enough records in. See? You helped me amazingly! I just need to play around with it!
Oh great!
I’ve been looking for something like this for a while - especially to search my sentiments! Thank you for sharing!
It's so valuable to me!
Thanks for a great product tutorial. Will be awesome for my very large stamp, die and stencil collection
Thanks so much - let me know if you have questions!
Hi! Thank you for the video. I use airtable for work and didn't even think about using it for keeping track of my stamps and dies. Question, I like the idea of linking the picture with URL address. Would you happen to know if the picture stays even if the manufacturer deletes the link?
That is a great question - I will ask!
Just when I thought I'd found a video I would only watch because you did it! (In other words, a topic not applicable to me.) That app looks AMAZING!!! I've been cataloguing my stuff in OneNote, which is better than nothing, since I can have photos, etc. But I can't access an individual page on my tablet easily, and forget tagging except on the desktop version. :( Anyway, I will definitely give Airtable a spin, kick the tires, etc. Thank you so much! I hope y'all had a good Christmas season, & that 2020 has started well for you. Take care, & have a wonderful day! :)
haha that's hilarious! I've been promising this for so long, I didn't want to go into 2020 not having it done! I love the fact that I can use phone, desktop etc. with this. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
Hello, thanks for sharing. Is your template able to be shared with another user?
I love, love Air table, I use it to catalog my stamps & dies, but I also use it to catalog my achievements for the games that I play, puzzles apps, etc. It is soo awesome. I first learned about the free app from the you tube channel---"Its me JD" a few years ago. I hope you can inspire someone to also use it because I personally couldn't live without it now.
It's the best!
Wow! Great organization!!! Thanks for sharing!
Thanks Linda!
Thank you so much for this tutorial...I decided to start cataloging with Airtable now instead of Evernote because of this video. One question that I have is: how do you link a specific die to its corresponding stamp set and vice versa on Airtable? I have set the tab for linking to another table but then I don't know how to link.
So once you enter the stamp, let's say - go to set up the die. In the column I made the linking one - I called it Matching Product, just start typing the name of the stamp set and it will come up.
@@UnderstandBluethank you for explaining this...a lot easier than I thought.
Thank you! This was super helpful!!
Thanks Maureen!
4 QUESTIONS, Please ... a). Can you store your info on your own device? Or must the data go “into the cloud? b). Can the IDENTICAL input be displayed on both a phone AND a computer, in spite of where the info was initially entered? c) If you only sign up for the freebie version, are you limited on number of category fields? or number of records you can have? d). If you only sign up for the freebie version, are you interrupted regularly with ads promoting the next level of the program? Many, MANY thanks for any help you can afford me.
You can export the data if you want a local copy. Yes, the data is the same regardless of device. I'm in the paid version so I no longer have any clue what's in the free version.
@@UnderstandBlue You’re so kind for taking the time to respond. Thank you.
Do you also catalog embossing folders? Thanks for the great tutorial.
I do not - I don't own very many, but if I get more I might!
I can’t thank you enough for the tutorial.
Happy to help!
What version of Airtable do you have? This will be perfect for organizing my dies, stamps, etc, and keep me from buying duplicate items.
Loved the demo. I created an Airtable database last year. I had an Excel file listing most of my inventory, so it was super easy to import the list into Airtable. The time consuming part was uploading the photos one at a time. If you know a way to upload several photos at once, please let me know.
I prefer the linking method shown in the video for photos, but I don't know how you would do multiples! Their support is great though - shoot them an email and let us know! I love the import!
Your videos are incredibly helpful. Thank you for creating a space where people can truly go to learn. We just dropped a basics to Airtable on our channel and it was great to see that there are already great people out here looking to help out anyone they can. You are inspiring!
This is a great app and thank you for sharing. I have it and have set things up a bit differently but you've shown me more ways to use it so I'm going to update mine, the linking portion is what I'm most excited about. I've also used this to catalog my watercolors, copic markers and more. Thank you again!
Ooh markers - great idea! Glad you enjoyed it!
What is the cost of using Airtable when you add all the pictures
Thanks for all these suggestions, I have cataloged 1,000+ stamps sets my daughter and I have accumulated over the last 20 years but thankfully I can now say I am finally current (whew)! My question to you has to do with photos, when a company retires a product doesn’t the link to the photo for that stamp set on their website go away? I have had to upload my own pictures for each stamp set but the photos quickly use up the allotted storage space so I have had to resort to splitting my inventory between 3 sign ons. MAJOR DRAWBACK.
I'm not sure if it goes away or if the thumbnail is stored in Airtable itself. I haven't noticed any broken images
Thank you so much! I was struggling a bit before.
Glad it helped!
Now that the holidays are over I'm beginning my massive undertaking of converting from analog to digital cataloging. I'm really liking Airtable already but I'm struggling to find the answer to a specific question: How can I populate all of my Brands from a field in my Dies table to another field in my Stamps table? I really don't feel like retyping the long list of brand names and it seems counterintuitive to the simplicity of this program. Can you help me? Thanks for making this video...it's already showing it's value a year later!
I don't know if there's a way - I think I did mine manually! So glad this is helpful!
I have been using Evernote for years but now their price has increased dramatically and it is no longer feasible for me. Do you how one can transfer my inventory from Evernote to AirTable? Thanks so much! 😊
If Evernote lets you export - Airtable has an import function. You'd just need to set up your spreadsheet to match what you've set up in Airtable.
Thank you, thank you, Lydia! I need an organizing tool and have been so overwhelmed on what to try that will work best. Airtable looks like exactly what I've been hoping for! ♥️
Glad it was helpful!
hey andrea
did you use airtable? what are your thoughts?
i have just seen the video and am seriously considering it, but wanted to know your thoughts!
thanks
sheryl
I started using Airtable over a year ago and then stopped. I want to start using it again. You have given me so many ideas how to set up my dies, stamps etc. plan to watch more of your videos!
Thanks Deb!
Thanks for this video! I'm wondering if you're using the free version of AirTable or a paid version? How many records do you have in your base? Do you feel like you'll run out of room?
Paid and I have more than 4,000 records.
Am using to catalog my digital papers. If I establish a second table for a different type of paper (i.e. glitter), is there a way to link the tables for a sort? I want to see all my available papers in green. I have searched and searched for this answer. I'd rather not add an app. Thank you for the tutorial!
Yes you can! I think it's in my video - it's the way that I link stamps and dies.
WoW, thank you so much, I was trying to understand this Apps and you explain so well in this video that is really easy now. Thank’s again
Awesome!
What version of Airtable are you using? The free one? Plus? Pro? This is exactly what I was looking.
I am on the Plus plan.
I wish I would have watched this before spending a day setting mine up all wrong 😅🙃
haha oh I spent some hard time too! LOL
I can't thank you enough for this video! I am just now beginning my inventory with AirTable, and I am trying to figure out my fields......can I ask how your field is set up for sentiments? I can't seem to get mine to show up in colored fields like yours. Many thanks!
Let me know if that field type worked for you!
@@UnderstandBlue it works beautifully! I’ve got about 20 stamp sets and dies in there, lots to go lol! Not sure I totally understand the linked field process but they are working so I’m good! Thanks again.
Hi Lydia. I saw this quite some time ago and saved it, And just ran across it again. I'm curious if you're still using this and still like it? Do you know if the app has a way to scan the barcode of a stamp set? Are you able to do all that you do on the free version? At some point we'll be moving, and that's when I'd like to start something like this. So it's between this and color my life. I know you said you had tried other things like this. Was color my life one of them? And if so what was it you preferred about air table over color my life? Have I asked enough questions already? 😇🤣
I still use it hourly! LOL. No scanning that I know of, but you can request an import source. I use the paid version, so I no longer remember what is in the free version. Color my Life wasn't far enough along at the time that I committed to airtable. I did consult with them briefly while they were working on it. The other one I tried that didn't work for me at all was Evernote.
@@UnderstandBlue thanks so much!
Lydia, thanks so much for this! I love Airtable, but currently entered all my stamp inventory, die inventory, etc. in Evernote. I was wondering - with sentiments, do you basically enter the sentiments WORD FOR WORD? For example, "Have a beautiful day!" so when you search "beautiful" that sentiment will also come up? Am I making sense? LOL
Correct!
Thank you so much for this review!
You are so welcome!
Does each table automatically save when you close the app?
Yes - actually as soon as you enter it.
When you add a photo using a link does it access that link when you click on it or does it take the picture and upload it to your Airtable. I'm just wondering if the product is discontinued, will all your pictures disappear because they are no longer on the website? Also, one suggestion for taking pictures with your phone, you could photograph your stamps on a grid so you have an idea about their size before you go looking for it.
The picture will still be there if the product is discontinued. I don't worry about the size - I sort of remember all that - but that's a great idea!
This is very helpful. I'd heard about AirTable but didn't know where to begin. I like that it's more of a spreadsheet layout. Thank you!
Glad it was helpful!
Thanks for sharing this. I came across it as I was transferring my information from Excel to Airtable. It is very helpful. Thank you.
Glad it was helpful!
I’m so excited you are sharing this with us. I have been using Airtable at your suggestion but haven’t tackled something as complex as my entire inventory. Your step by step directions are so helpful. I have one question about linking the photo. I currently find a photo online, download it and then attach it. The linking seems easier but what happens if the URL changes? Does your photo disappear as well or is it saved as a unique item in your Airtable Base?
Linking is way easier! I haven't had one break yet, but you can filter by empty photos and quickly fix if so! Thanks for watching!
Thank you! I was paying round with different organizing programs and found your video. Very clear and useful!
Glad it helped!
Thanks for the tutorial. I was wondering if you know how to alphabetize the multiple select field type? As I add more fields they do not go into alphabetical order and then are hard to find to select when adding new stamps.
Yes - click the little down arrow next to the field header and choose sort A-Z
Thank you!!!! I have wanted something like this for ages. I am going to share your RUclips with my friends, I hope they too will sign up and you get the credit. I am just using Airtable for my personal stuff and do not need the upgraded membership since I probably won't have a lot of activity from month to month after I get my inventory logged in. hugs
Please do! Hugs!
Guess I'm very tech challenged cuz I can't get this to work. How do you find a blank base to start?
It's at the very beginning of the video where I add the new base!
Wow!! Just got the opportunity to view this. So inspiring! I will be doing this! Thank you for sharing this!! ❤
Wonderful!
Thankyou so much! I think I can make my air table so much more useful now - much easier to understand than videos using completely different products!
Glad it helped!
This is absolutely wonderful!! I've been looking for something like this forever!! This would help for my crafts, craft books and particularly my cookbooks!! I appreciate this SO much!! ❤️❤️❤️❤️
So glad Lisa! Thank you!
And a very happy new year to you, too, Lydia!
May I ask if the colors you wrap each sentiment in indicate something about that sentiment to you?
Oh those get assigned by airtable automatically - they assign each one a different color - same with the multi-select options. Great question!
This appears life-changing! My space needs major re-organizing, and I love the idea of adding an actual inventory. (I have NONE at this moment.)
Wonderful Kim!
Awesome explanation! Very helpful for crafters! Thanks so much for doing this video!
Thank you Nancee - it's such a great tool.
Wow and Wow! Thank you so much. I have been looking for something to catalog my stamps and dies for a while.
You're so welcome!
Hi There! This is absolutely awesome! I'm setting mine up, but I'm having trouble with drop down menus...ex: under stamp type, I want a drop down with either click, or checkbox, but I can't seem to figure it out. I've checked out all kinds of tutorials, etc. I'm using a Mac, don't know if that's different. Could you please help me? If it's too much to explain here, is there a way I can contact you? Thanks so much!
Hi! I chose Field Type as Single Select.
@@UnderstandBlue Thank you. I figured that out. But now, when I try to group, first by manufacturer, as you did, it leaves the first block "empty". It won't put in the manufacturer. It says manufacturer on top, then empty. It works on the next group down and thereafter, but I cannot figure out what is going on in the first group. I've looked everywhere, but can't figure it out.
Wow. I didn’t know an organizing app/program existed. Thanks for sharing. Happy New Year!
Yeah it's amazing - I found it by accident last year.
Thank you for such a detailed video and instructions!
Glad it was helpful!
I cannot see ! Its too small.
Sorry - it's a normal size screen recording - you should be able to zoom in on your phone.
Thanks for this tutorial, it was very in-depth and helpful. I've been trying to cross over into the e-cataloging for a while.
You're welcome - thanks for watching!
This was super helpful to get me started, thank you so much!
I'm so glad!
Very helpful video & a spiffy product. TFS
Thank you!
Excited to find out about this and boy do I need organization. Thank you for this information.
You're so welcome Vicki!
Can you recommend a video to get the airtable started. I just downloaded it and cant even figure out how to start.
This video! :)
@@UnderstandBlue okay, sorry. I watched like the first 5 minutes and it seemed to be more of a show n tell (which is fine) and less of a tutorial....but I am not patient and didnt stick around long enough (my apologies). So I will watch the whole thing to get the tutorial. Thanks
Lydia, thank you so much for this excellent tutorial!
Thank you Elizabeth!
I've been using Airtable for several months now for stamp/die organization and was happy to see your schema. For my "Retired?" field I used a checkbox type. Makes it faster to enter. One thing I haven't been able to quite figure out yet is how to link. What do you use for your "Key" field? That is a great tip about how to populate the Photo field using a link. I've been doing a very lengthy process where I find the picture on the website or in Google search and then saving the picture to my computer so I could upload into the database. Your way will be so much quicker! Thanks so much for taking the time to demonstrate the awesome tool!
Hi Patricia! I'm not sure what you mean by key field - help me out!
@@UnderstandBlue That would be the field in the table that is the Primary Field. I think it has to be a unique field. When you add a new blank table you will see it as the first column and it will have a little lock icon. I generally use an AutoNumber type, but you don't have to. I'm having trouble populating a photo from a link. What field type is your photo field? Mine is set to be an attachment, and I can't figure out how to link it to a photo url. I'm going to watch your video again.
OK I just rewatched the video and my questions are answered. Looks like Name is your key field and I never noticed that for the attachment field if you hit the little plus sign you can choose different options. Way cool! That is going to be such a time saver!
Hi Patricia - my field type is Attachment for photos - hope that helps!
New Subscriber! Saving this!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thank you for the chance!
Thank you so much Meghan!
A helpful way to organize. Tfs
Thanks Teresa!
I am so happy you brought this to our attention. Thank you so much for the in-depth tutorial, I couldn't have done this on my own!
Oh I'm so glad you find it useful! Let me know if you have questions!
I have started my blog, and I would love to mention you and the sight. I don’t have any followers yet, but do I just put your link?
Very informative and clear. 👌🏾✨
Glad it was helpful!
Thanks for sharing. Happy new year!
Thank you - Happy New Year!
Excellent info! Thank you!!
Glad it was helpful!
Very helpful, Thank you!!!!!
Awesome Karen - you're welcome!
I’ve been using this, I’m still inputting. You’ve given me some great ideas to improve my database. Thank you so much!
Oh I'm so glad Melissa!
