What is your favorite organization tip?
Using the envelope punch board for tabs is brilliant! And so glad you weren’t more severely hurt - how frightening!
Yes! Thank you! It was definitely scary!
I was trying to play around with Evernote but felt it was more involved than I needed. I really like your binder method/technique!
Glad it was helpful! ❤️
I was thinking of stencil storage recently and thought to myself I have a 3 ring binder and some page protectors. So I took all my stencils (which right now aren’t many) and piece of cardstock in between so that I can get at least 2 stencils per sleeve. I am have been thinking about doing the same thing for my stamps, so I’m glad I found your video.
I’m so glad the video was helpful! 🩷
Unless you're just wanting to add a bit of color to the project, save your card stock and just use copy paper as your dividers.
Prayers and get well
Thank you!
I started with a similar system! But then outgrew it….! My products are now separated by stamp/die/stencil and are grouped in numbered zipped office pouches that sit in larger bins. Binders are separated into stamp/die/stencil & topics as well, like yours. It’s SO great to go to the binders and find choices all together. It’s also pretty easy to purge, I just finished a huge purge…easy to know what I had by starting with the binders then pulling the product out of it’s pouch. Emptier pouches just get new stuff!!🤣🤣🤣. Glad you are doing well after the close encounter with the softball! 🤗
Great minds think alike! “Purge” is not in my vocabulary 😂. I appreciate your well wishes …the ball didn’t stand a chance 🤣
@@villagecardandcrafts I didn’t think purge was either, but it happened! It has taught me to be more discerning about what I buy now, so that’s good! 👍🏻
You’re a better person than I am!
Thank you, thank you, thank you! I have been searching for someone to show me how to organize my stamps and dies; not just what clear envelopes to use and which bins are best to hold all my stamp and die inventory but how to keep track of all my inventory! How to make a system to incorporate new products into my inventory. This is perfect! I’m getting up in age and finding it harder to think straight. Lol!😅
I’m so happy I can be of help to you! 😊
I so needed this video. Thank you!
You’re welcome! Glad to help!
Thank you for sending me to this RUclips. This is the same system I have been thinking about using. I am so glad to see that it is system that will work. I have 27yrs worth of items to index and organize.
Oh wow! That’s a lot of supplies! I cross reference everything with Airtable. I5 allows me to have it at my fingertips so I don’t rebuy something I already have and I put in what I paid. Scary to see all of it added up!! Of course, my categories may not work for you and that’s ok. It’s just a suggestion. In fact, I’m thinking of combining a couple for fewer categories. 🤷🏼♀️ I’m a work in progress! Good luck! 🩷
I use photo album refills. At Lowes you can magnetic vent covers and I cut to fit my album pockets. I really like the storage pockets. You have a lot of great ideas. Thanks.
Thank you very much! 😊
I bought a bit stronger magnetic vent cover through WalMart (online) that is 8" X 17". The extra width allows me 3 full 5 ½" panels to go into my plastic pockets. I've always beefed up the magnetic pieces using the card-type HVAC ads and the political ads that come in the mail, and then add a decorative panel to cover up the ad ( POOEY!!) These slightly thicker ones allows me to use some of the flimsier ad panels.
Thank you so much for sharing your organization system! I just started trying to organize my supplies for the first time in a spreadsheet, but I'm a visual person too. I was thinking it would be too much of a pain to take pictures of each set and print them on my printer--I don't know why I never thought of photocopies 😅 I am excited to adapt this for my stash and finally stop digging through every stamp set in every bin 😱 Thank you again! 😊
Btw, SO glad you're (relatively) okay after a head injury like that! 💕
Thank you very much! I don’t know what type of spreadsheet you are using, but I also use Airtable. It’s free and wonderful. I have tables for my inks, sprays, dies, stamps, etc. it makes it a breeze when I’m thinking of purchasing something and don’t know if I have it. I check the app and know in a instant.
@@villagecardandcrafts Thanks for the info! I might have to look into that--I'm currently using Google Sheets as I start with just organizing my stamps. I have a bunch of memos on my phone of which inks, sprays, etc... I have because I've definitely bought the same Distress Oxide ink pad 3 times before 😂
Same! That’s why I started using Airtable.
If you use your phone to take the pics -- AND have the storage capacity in your phone -- that, too, may be a good way to prevent double purchasing.
I have watched this video over and over but can you please go into more depth of your binders please. Thank you Michelle
Yes I will do my best to get something out in the coming days for you. What is confusing? Is it the subjects, numbering, or something else? I want to make sure I address your concerns.
@@villagecardandcrafts I just want to make sure that my storage is right and my numbering is correct. Is each section numbered by its self or just each product type? Also when you have different size embossing folders then the ranger once (like spellbinder) that are larger how do you store them. If you have stamps that have words and images do you make 2 copies and place them in 2 places in your binder?
I do not separate the numbering between product types. There will only be one of that number ever. The difference is the naming of the category: for example 267 floral. 268 animals, 269 words, etc.
embossing folders are all stored the same way in those photo boxes. I make a little file folder for each one. I assume you watched that video? I just make a larger folder to house the larger Spellbinders folders.
I have not made a second copy of stamps that have words although I’ve thought about it. If the stamp set is mainly pictures, then I store in the appropriate category. If it’s mainly words, then I store it with the words.
Michelle, would you consider sending me an email at villagecardandcrafts@gmail.com? I may have an easier way to explain, but I'd rather keep it off the comments page.
I've been thinking about starting a notebook so it was great to see yours. I have an organization question. I have bought a lot of my stamps at garage sales, etc. So I don't have the original packaging. It's fine with me that I don't actually know what brand things are. My question is how can I store them. I have many stamps on wood blocks that I would like to remove from the blocks and turn into cling stamps. What should I stick them to? For some reason, I haven't been able to figure out a solution.
Great question! I only have a half dozen or so wooden stamps, so I’m not really looking to change mine. However, they do take up a ton of space if you have a lot. You can remove the stamp and foam by heating up the block for about 10 seconds in the microwave. The problem is identifying them after removing and storage. You can take a copy of the top of the wood block OR peal off its label. You can still store in pouches or tiny zip lock style baggies. I hope this answers your question or at least points you in a direction. Good luck!
I have all my stamps with the matching dies in binders by theme or type. For me, if I'm going to go through a binder to see what I have, the items may as well be right there.
I think I’d need 97 binders 😂😂
@@villagecardandcrafts I'm getting there! 😂
@@tabandken8562 At least to get you started you might want to check out your local GOODWILL stores for 3-Ring binders. Both in Tucson, AZ and in The Twin Cities, MN, areas they have M A N Y to choose from!! That way you can give your idea (of multiple binders) a try, and see if your shoulders can withstand all that up & down, in & out. (Mine d e f i n i t e l y could NOT). Be well!!
Thanks for sharing. Can you give the size of the tabbed dividers you made? Thanks
Yes, they are 1/2 a sheet of card so 5.5” x 8.5”. Of course you may need to adapt that to your containers.
Wish I could hire you because I have so much supplies and have only a 3ft x 4ft space to store them in containers and cannot find anything when I need it 😢 Help! Would you have an idea how to maybe stack things somehow in the container to utilize the entire container rather than lose space? I may need to sell or give away a few items, any idea where to donate or how to sell some of my stash? I don't know what else to do and it's really stressing me out. Thank you!
Having such a small space would prove challenging. I’m envisioning large containers ?? If that’s the case, then that is an issue because of having to open each one. I use bins purchased at ikea and use pockets to store standing up. You may need to thin the herd. Start by separating like items. Have you used it? Do you still like it? Lots of tough questions. Maybe you have a crafting friend nearby who might enjoy some new items? Perhaps teachers, after school activities, retirement or nursing homes? Good luck!
@@villagecardandcrafts I do use everything in my stash at one point or another but unfortunately I may have to part with some supplies. Thank you for your input, greatly appreciate it.
oh man! I so needed this. Thank you so much! I just subscribed to your channel. :) QUESTION: Do you seperate your stamps and dies IF they do not relate? LIke I have some sets with both, some stamps only and some dies only. Do you put the dies and stamps in the same catagory? or do you have other bins that are numbered that are ONLY stamps, ONLY dies, etc. Clear as mud? LOL Thanks again!🥰
I speak Clear as Mud! Who knew? 🤣. I do not have separate bins for dies versus stamps. I use the same categories for both. If the stamp set has matching dies then they go into the same pocket. Otherwise each set gets its own pocket. Make sense?
@@villagecardandcrafts DEFINITELY!!
Having Like-THEMED Items together makes it SOOO much faster & easier to make a nifty card!! A few cards that came together sooo perfectly (in my mind!) for me, now have separate folders / pockets that hold extra "dsp", card bases, embossing folders, etc. -- pretty much everything I used to make that special card. THOSE items I never lose track of because I have them more permanently resident in my memory! I know where there are if I feel they'd work with another project.
Do you have a system/software that you use to keep from making duplicate stamp/die purchases? TY
Yes! I use AirTable. It’s FREE, available as an app for my phone, and I use it on my desktop. Using it on my computer makes it much easier to type. Oh, and it’s totally customizable 😊
@@villagecardandcrafts TY
That’s all well and good, B U T … H O W do you find that darling lil HEART that was in with the bird stamps?!? EVEN I F you remembered that you had seen one in your stash s o m e w h e r e?!?
Honestly, I utilize a few different systems that are cross referenced. In you example, I’d pull out my notebook and go to the bird / animal section, find the bird stamp with the heart there. I also have all my sets in Airtable on my computer. I’ve added key words to search by. I’d type in HEART and it will pull anything I have with a heart,💜
@@villagecardandcrafts Ahhhh … AIRTABLE!! I’ve been hoping I wouldn’t have to fall back on data entry to make it (stamp search) less painful to “find” what’s right to hand!!
@kkrolf2782 it’s not perfect, but it works for me. 🤷🏼♀️. It’s also great when I don’t know if I have a particular item and I’m out shopping. I open airtable to see if I’ve already got it. I do have separate tables for Tim holtz dies, scrappy boy stamp / die sets, embossing glazes, etc.
@@villagecardandcrafts I’m envious 🤤🫶! Since I can’t seem to break myself of making “a special treasure (card) for every recipient”, it takes f o R E V e r to make a card, I can just imagine the end of the world (💫🌎💥⚡️) happening just about 3 hours after I get the items in my stash documented (teeheehee)!!
As my compulsion is to categorize E V E R Y T H I N G in my life -- down to the "Inth Degree" -- I one evening sat myself down and made myself devise a list of broader terms that I could use to keep this fetish from becoming "THE HOBBY", instead of paper crafting!! Herein are a few "for instance"s: All autos, bicycles, boats, carts, planes, trains, hot air balloons, etc., are CONVEYANCES; Every Mushroom, Flower, Tree, or Seaweed goes into FLORA; Every Slug, Worm, Centipede, Spider, Frog, Cat, Dog, Horse, Elephant, Bird, ... All Earth's creatures are FAUNA, even PEOPLE, under "2-Legged" behind "Birds"; If an item has moving parts, but is not a Conveyance, it goes into MECHANICAL, NOT TO BE CONFUSED with "MECHANISMS" which is the designation for the items that make our cards interactive in some way. I DO still have a mess stashing things like HEARTS and such "icons" (but not STARS, because they fall into the category called OFF WORLD). Then there's EARTH, WIND, FIRE, WATER -- Each a separate group. Hmmm ... It DID seem simpler in the doing, though it doesn't sound like it the telling!!
You probably see why I haven't yet begun to categorize my STAMPS! That Stamp Set WENDY used in her demo as to her How-To t o t a l l y sent a chill through me!! However in the world will she E V E R locate that darling little HEART in that set?!?!?!? And WHAT has a Heart to do with BIRDS? And BRANCHES?!? Where's my meds?!? Be well, All ... And Thanks BUNCHES for the tute, Wendy!!!
🤣. I also list what is in each set on Airtable. So if I filter but the word HEART then every stamp set or die set that has a heart pops up.
@@villagecardandcrafts 😉👍; I know I'm going to have to document my stash at some point, but I dread the thought of it!
@amkarei I still have some items to document and organize. It’s not the most fun, but it sure makes things easier in the long run. I slap a movie on and get to it to make it more palatable. Now…swatching! I love swatching and seeing exactly what I can do with something.
@@villagecardandcrafts I love the RESULT of swatching because I've found -- especially with inks -- nothing is as it seems on the outside. But "the doing" is tedious! OH, BTW ... Since anything visual (movies, RUclips vids, even favorite music!) is distracting to me from the project at hand, I've found OLD RADIO PROGRAMS (here on y.t.) fill the bill. My faves are the Detective / Mystery ones ( a f t e r the producers got away from using organ music, as the movies used before the "talkies"). That way I can keep my eyes on the project at hand. Give 'em a try, if you like that genre. Hugs, Wendy ...
@amkarei thank you for the suggestion! Yes, I get distracted too lol. My tv broke recently, so I’m bored! 🤣
