    I still remember like it was yesterday when they 1st made an appearance on our UK Roads and immediately I liked them and wanted one but it was another box in life that was never ticked, from all the Vauxhall range the Calibra along with the MK1 Astra GTE's are my fav's
    The GTE would sit in No-1 position

  • @1066gaz
    @1066gaz 2 года назад +9

    I remember when i first saw one in 1990 and looked futuristic for the time.
    Silly of vauxhall making a 2.0 8v version.
    I believe it had a cd factor of 0.26 one of the lowest around.
    The wing mirrors had a fault on them too on the early models with them dropping off lol.
    Still a great looking car today and not aged much.

    • @ItsFriscoBaby
      @ItsFriscoBaby 2 года назад +3

      Only the 8v had that drag coefficient. The 16v and the v6 were basically the same as a cavalier because the grill was bigger

    • @OnceDrivenForeverSmitten
      @OnceDrivenForeverSmitten  2 года назад +1

      Good bit of trivia there 😁 It did look absolutely stunning in 1990, it was like a super car. The 8v Calibra only had 14 inch steel wheels on it, I think they helped the drag a tiny bit too. The 16v was 0.28, while Cavaliers apart from the GSi were 0.29. That big front bumper meant it was slightly less slippery, at 0.30.
      I think by comparison the old Mk2 was 0.37. It was an important thing at the time, the drag figure. After the 90s you never saw it come up often but it was part of the spec list then.

    • @1066gaz
      @1066gaz 2 года назад

      @@OnceDrivenForeverSmitten A good bit of extra info there dougie.
      Yep not much more info about the drag of cars after the 90's, maybe because the drag of the newer cars were not much better or probably they were worse.

I don't understand why Courtney wasn't "bigger", in the way of like mountune, power engineering and turbo technics were with the ford's. Wasn't there another tuner/handler too? ,( rem Im a Ford man at heart so maybe mistaken,) Bill Blydenstein?? I'm sure autocar interviewed the Courtney bloke, and they were impressed with his work, likening it in a way to Alpina no less.
    As I've said to you b4 I look forward to a cav turbo 4x4 test versus a saff cos. Its also a shame they didn't rally the 4x4 calibra as a replacement of sorts to the lovely manta (I'm thinking mcrae, Brooks, and of course Mr Vatanen.)
