@@PacificNorthwestLawns It's about 2 inches, but we have had monsoon rains for the last 6 days and a lot of it is laying down. Hoping it pops up tomorrow when it dries out.

I'm also thinking about cutting the lawn a litter shorter. I usially cut it shorter for the winter, but during the growing months my deck height is at the top setting. I'm not sure what height i should have it, but I feel like the long grass blades are matted down, espicially after striping. And if we get to 80 again like it was North of Seattle today it will be just fantastic! I appreciate all of your guidance neighbor 🙂
I see the attraction with it. It's interesting to mow with a reel. It's just not my thing. I did it for the first few weeks then went right back to the rotory.
Overseed here , TTTF in Northeast. Germinated at day 4 mowed at day 14 3" height , made a mistake using starter at seed down , should wait till germination.
I just did a full lawn renovation (tall fescue seed) 8 days ago. I just got a Scotts 20” reel mower … so using 1/3 rule I will wait until grass is 4.25” tall to do the first mow because my Scotts mower is at 3” cut height? Am I correct? Is it ok to leave grass clippings on the lawn? Thx for making this video…
I over seeded about a month ago, I cut everything rather short as you said here, but it has been unseasonably cold here in Missouri and the seed has not really taken off yet..but the old grass is starting to be wanting mowing. I don't want to disturb the seed any, Also the tallest parts of the lawn are a few patches of weeds I seem to have to spray off every year. But I am a little nervous that the weed killer might interfere with the new grass. Of course the weeds popped up in the more bare spots where I was hoping the seed to take over first.
@@PacificNorthwestLawns The local lawn center made it sound like dealing with the problems around the end of February was better than waiting until the fall. I was hoping at the worst case I could get something established especially on one hillside in the front, where it is mostly dirt dead grass and weeds. Then maybe add a bit more in the fall to any problem areas left. I was looking it up, and what I have is called Purple Deadnettle. I think I need to get rid of it if I can, without harming my seed, so the grass can fill in some, then put down a pre-emergence in the early winter to stop it from regrowing.
On day 4 today. Seeded on Saturday still nothing. I’m sure by Friday I’ll have some germination. I was like that when I over-seeded my front yard trying to baby the new grass and not mowing worried about stepping down on it lol 😆.
@@PacificNorthwestLawns I really like Rye I might seed my front yard with it next year spring since it’s not that big. Any recommendations on that particular seed?
Ya I was going to wait roughly 2 weeks from when i over seeded but we have had such good weather and rain for grass, plus I have been watering the lawn too. I think its time now. its been over 11 days.
Just the video I was looking for! Wondered about the first cut and then over seeding. I think my first cut wasn’t Low enough and some of the over seeding has not yet germinated. But it’s looking ok. I’m right now at 4 weeks for new renovation tall fescue, I’m going to try to mow on 5th week. Most of my grass is already 4”, I’m going to cut at 3.5”. I really think 3” is too short for tall fescue.
Great video. I overseeded my lawn on Sept 2nd and it was cut 2 weeks after. It was growing really fast. After I mowed the lawn it looked like a checkerboard. It looks a little better now, but I'm wondering how often should I mow? Do I go back to cutting the lawn every 3-4 days or should I wait till the bluegrass starts germinating?
We have dead spots in our lawns, and put grass seed in those bare spots and when should we mow the lawn so as not to waste the seeds that have not taken root yet?
When should I use my lawn mower again after someone put the netting down for new grass to grow? I didn't put it there. The electric company was doing some work and they messed up the grass so they put seeds on grass and the net. I also saw some kind of metal parts they used to put down the net. I want to know when I can cut my grass again and how to remove the metal part to cut my grass?
The metal things are probably just stakes or staples to hold the netting in place. They pull right up. I personally would never use that stuff. If it were me I'd pull it up right away unless you're worried about a huge rain storm washing stuff out.
Good video and informative, I have a question regarding first mow after overseeding , Do I mulch or bag ? You think my lawn striper would damage new grass ? I am at 18 days and look to mow soon. Thanks
Hey buddy I plan on starting a dormant over seed here within a couple weeks, gonna power rake and do some light to medium leveling, soil has a fair amount of movement being as wet as it was for our winter on the east side, its a full tri stand of heat tolerant bluegrass, 2 to 3 weeks for germination, with either a 20inch cali trimmer with a grooved roller or a 27inch tru cut with no roller currently. Would i be safe to mow through my germ period as normal? ( currently once a week as the lawn wakes up)
I don't ever dormant seed. I don't feel it works as well as some folks make it out to. However to answer your question, it won't hurt anything to mow it.

I overseeded with KBG 6 days ago. I have a couple areas already showing and others not. I put peat on it and wondering what to do besides let it keep going. One area gets super wet from irrigation should I dial it back?
You should only be watering enough to keep it moist until it's mostly germinated. Literally just 3 to 5 minutes of water several times a day is enough.
I am thinking about using Tenacity when I renovate the lawn in fall, how many times should I be using it? I understand it’s safe to apply at the time of seeding. When should second application take place?I live in PNW. Thanks
