hey there! I tried to sign up for your course on your website but the buttons wont direct me on the website, please get back to me when you have the time, I love your videos
I haven't used head phones in years while practicing. I always have them in case I need them though. The visual of the tracks, knowing your tracks and quick fingers make it possible. Not wise with a big gig though.
Yup, that's how I dj. I don't use headphones. Where I'm from, people hardly know much about deep , progressive, melodic , organic, afro house , Techno and Trance so I'm sorta like a pioneer in the sense that I m educating the crowds. As such, I meticulously prepare my sets in advance, making sure the mood progressively varies during my gigs. To make it practical, I set up cue points on all the tracks of the sets, and they can vary for each songs if used on different sets.....so far, so good, so yeah, it's possible.
The best, most accurate comment. Most DJ's who don't use headphones "meticulously prepare" their sets, including cue points and beat grids. It takes a lot of time to do this!!!! Lately, I don't have time, so I stick to my headphones.
I prefer not to use headphones, sometimes I get a track that I'm not sure if it's going to sound right, but I just put the treble of that track in to the live mix for a second to see if it is going to match up, that way i can just use monitors only to figure out if it's ok. Usually the audience won't notice that you put in a little of the treble from another track, while lowering the treble of the main track a little bit for maybe one or two beats and then fade it out immediately and bring back all the treble of the main track.
Yes you can dj without headphones and yes it is possible she actually isn't really making those mixes when she is on camera. I've noticed a few dj channels that do that, pre record the mix and then act it out when the camera is recording.
I can DJ without headphones but I can't scratch without headphones cos I love hearing my sound while scratching. But I'm trying to learn how to scratch without headphones though... Nice job man. I love your videos
You can but you have to really know the songs in your library I do it all the time bc I don't have speakers so I plug them in through the headphone jack on my DDJ
i never used headphones or had a controller just did it with laptop and a mouse..i dont beat-match i just play tunes and people dance ...so far so good
When I practice songs, I don’t use headphones. When you use controllers, you can visually see the beats to match. Also, if you know the song as I know most songs that I play, I can pretty much identify how it sounds & where the beat is in the song. It’s not ideal for me but it’s possible.
I was about to say. Yeah it’s literally just the visuals and watching. Whoever said that you’re not DJ’ing if you don’t have headphones, they’re wrong 🤣 they clearly need more practice if they’re still relying on headphones.
without headphone for a dance session .. thats about 3 hrs minimum .. 60 songs at least .. the harmony and both songs mashup? eyes glued to the screen? no showsmanship a short session perhaps .. for a whole party? i dj since 1986 .. i cant do that.
People commenting either don’t DJ in current year, or are hung up on the old ways of vinyl. Gotta let it go, times have changed. I also never use headphones anymore.
Sure you could just get all the records you can find with the same bpms so you don't have to worry about keeping the tracks in sync with each other Make sure you have a lot of preset que points on your cdj decks 8 each and ready up and que and number so you can drop them in order as you go and keep it going for 10 or 15 mins.
Ok, you've helped me with a few things. Now, I'm really ready to take on Ableton head first! I already know Serato Studio but I want to learn Abeton as well. I'm a give the course a shot. Are you worried about the new RUclips that's about to drop?
@@DJPhilHarris from what I hear, it's all going subscription based. Not exactly sure how it's going to work... Just been hearing some rumors and the other day I noticed some new buttons, then they were just gone...
So true dude, there is another guy on RUclips with a video on this and he says some big djs do it because they are just so good and can hit the start button at precisely the right time and have everything perfectly beat matched with the bpm counter? I dont think that's possible and they are obviously line matching and using sync, how could someone be so stupid! As you demonstrate it can only be done by visuals and maybe with sync. I would rather dj with only headphones than without them.
You didn't prove anything.. so no you can't mix a live dj set without headphones The female is a preset dj she wouldn't be able to do what she does with a pair of belt or direct drive turntables nor I believe you can , she is not mixing on the fly with random traxs for a hour or two Turn off the beat matching , close the lid of the computer and then show you can mix without headphones 🎧 I bet you nor the female dj could even mix with a pair of headphones on with no beat sync and no laptop..
It’s 2023, why would anyone not use the features available now in serato or whatever software they decide to use? And before you start about turntables, I’ve been DJing for over 20 years. I started on technics 1200s and vinyl. Yes I needed headphones then. But now, things are different. I take full advantage of all of these new advancements. It is 100% possible to mix without headphones, I do it all the time. Also, why even mention belt drive turntables in your comment? No DJ I know of would use those in the first place. I mean, I guess if that’s all the venue had and you didn’t bring anything with you.

I don't use headphones honestly, I just imagine a set and memorize which tracks I wanna play
You can DJ with stacked waveforms without headphones but you should definitely learn to beatmatch by ear eventually if you want to play on CDJs

Lol yes you can lol I started without headphones, it’s just instinct at this point but I still use headphones nothing wrong with that
Great video mate
I think headphones should only be used, if your covering a big event of over 100+ people...
