My wife comes home with one last year someone was giving away for FREE! I was totally expecting this thing to be trash when I plugged it in... I was and still AM BLOWN AWAY! I have the same exact one (99) at in the video but I never knew you can hook it up to a friggin cab!!!! Brilliant Amp! Ill never give mine away
Thanks...great review. Still have mine, had it from new too mid 1990s... still looks new probably because it has never been outside my home. I've tried it with your settings and it has been reborn.
Thanks so much! I bought mine 2nd hand in the late 90's, played it a few times, then shelved it. I only just now, found it in storage after 12 years! Love it!!!!👍
Thanks for a proper in-depth look at this amp. Sounds great actually. It seems really overlooked in general. Probably more useful than the more popular Peavey Bandit, in terms of the volumes at home or onstage that most will likely be using. I'll keep my eye out for a used one.
I picked one of these up a couple months ago. It had a blown speaker and the connections on the input jack had to be re-soldered as they were shorting out when i plugged my guitar cable in. The gut wanted $75 but when I plugged it in to test it was nearly non functional, so I passed and he ended up giving it to me. I replaced the Blue Marvel speaker with a Jensen speaker and this little amp just screams now! I love it, great demo and info!
@@MurdochGuitar super cool MG from mtw in L.A. - Peavey Teal Stripe player these days. Played Fenders, Marshalls. are you going to NAMM? just curious. cheers!
From Leo: Good demo, those were good little amps. Like all but the very bottom shelf amps, plugging it into a good speaker really makes a big difference. Most amps in that price range do not have an external speaker jack.
I had this same version, a 96 Model and I regret everyday that I sold it to a highschool friend. Bought it new when i was a teen and it was a fun amp, incredibly loud.
@@lifethrulove $70?? If it's still in excellent working condition, I'd almost consider taking that off your hands even though I already own the same exact amp shown in the video. Mine currently has some connection(?) issue in the jack area that I'm looking to repair (hopefully an easy fix) because the amp is just awesome and I love it. I really only would ever want to replace it with the same exact version.
If you ever needed to replace that 10” 6 ohm speaker, my bet would be that a standard 8 ohm speaker would work just fine, and that other factors in the speaker design-e.g., length of the voice coil, choice of magnet material, cone material, etc., would make FAR more difference than a mere 2 ohms difference in impedance on the voice coil windings. Most solid state amps tend to be pretty flexible when it comes to handling speaker loads, since unlike tube amps, they don’t use output transformers. Bottom line: as long as the maximum specified load (or minimum specified impedance) of the amp circuitry is not exceeded, it should be fine. This is different from tube amps, which often have specific impedence needs due to the way their output transformers may be wound.
I know a lot of people have and do still sh*t on Peavey stuff but they made so many great guitars and amps in the 80's, 90's and into the 2000's.I have a silver stripe Studio Pro 112 and I probably play that amp at least 80% of the time and I have seven amps in total.
Their great amps actually came in the 70's trough to the late 80's. Most stuff after that was badly designed and corners were cut to save money and then they shoved the production abroad and quality went south!! I have a few USA made peaveys from the 70's 80's and 90's. Internal quality suffered in the 90's for sure. Great 2nd hand bargains
@@Gloveberg1 definitely. I think they lost their good name by selling out. The VT and VTX series are fantastic professional quality. Lynyrd Skynyrd sound good enough with the Peavey Mace set up. No one can argue that 🙂
Deja Vu. I had an Epiphone Wilshire back when Epiphone was a separate company from Gibson. I hadn't thought of it until I saw this. The neck went on forever as I remember.
Great demo thanks! I worked at an audio sound company for 18 years and replaced a lot of 8-ohm speakers and they all measured with an ohmmeter (DC test) 6 to 7 ohms. I think yours is an 8 ohm also.
Thanks for the vid I have this exact amp It's my main practice amp I mostly use it without any pedals (Deley or reverb pedals in that case The reverb is an ok spring reverb tank , sounds good but little limited ) Great amp 👍
@MurdochGuitar wrong! . Just like the big brother . The teal bandit. Came before the silver bandit. .the silver line is Gen 1 of transtube, but the teal line came first. It had the same circuitry, as "transtube", but wasn't named "transtube" yet tell silver line. So again! Gen 1 of envoy was the TEAL VERSION!
U have a great thing going here. Nice playing, nice explanations. Cool , bluesy playing with some tasty chops. I think I may have an older version. It says it’s an envoy 110 but looks a lot older. There is no horizontal stripe however there are two metal strips going vertically either side of the speaker
If the speaker blows you just put a 8ohm in it... XD Ss. amps handle ez higher impedance than normal speakers. i have a fender fm65r (8ohm stock speaker) and i used it with a 16ohm cab. 0 issues. General rule for speakers (and ill use 50W 8ohms speaker amp example as reference): -if the amp has 50W and uses a 8ohm speaker you can replace the speaker with a 8 or more ohms speaker. (NEVER LESS). If the speaker you choose is 8ohms the amp will operate in 50W. IF the speaker is 16ohms (double the impedance) the power will go to half (25W). IF you could use a 4ohms (half the impedance) the amp power would double BUT it would blow up. Again. i tryed it myself with th fm65r and 0 issues. Actually, the cab i used had a 70 80 (80W; 8Ohm) and a jensen c12N i think (50W; 8ohm) and the recomended speaker for the amp was 65-70W (8ohm). The jensen could easily blow up synce its only 50W and the amp itself can go to 65W BUTTTT i wired the cab in series, so its a 16ohm cab. If you use speakers with diferent power ratings the power is difined by the lowest of them. So, in the end, my cab was a 50W 16ohm cab. Because of the 16ohm impedance my 65W amp (at 8ohms) worked at 32,5W max and never one bad thing happened. i learned from a lot of foruns and with people that tryed the same.
