Another great installation highlighting not only the Ace Spec cards themselves, but also the format in which they functioned. I can’t overstate how impressed I am with the video structure on this channel, considering the amount of context and detail that is included. It renders the meta game impact of each card very clearly even for viewers who may not be familiar with that era of the game, or have extensive knowledge of the TCG in general.
If you have ever played with Ace Spec cards, the moment he says what the #2 card is, you know what the number 1 is. The 2 of them are so powerful that they are still used in expended, even though it looks like TPCI is no longer trying to support it
Focus Sash got me thinking. It may be neat to have a list of only item cards that have video game counterparts, and how well those effects have been adapted to the TCG. Idk, may be fun.
Even though Master Ball isn't very good, I always loved it for how accurate it was to the games. Catches any pokemon without fail, and you only get one of them. It's perfect.
Dowsing machine from my experience was a better all round card than Computer Search was. Computer Search is better in the early game, but Dowsing machine is better mid-late game as it allows you crucial access to a 5th trainer card.
Was literally arguing this to my piers. Dowsing machine is the main ace spec of expanded at the moment as recycling powerful cards/ one offs has been much more powerful as of recent years. Even looking at expanded reports you will see the difference in usage.
@@ChessPieceHalloween the top expanded decks (tinachomp, palkia, regidrago) all run computer search. The only relevant decks running dowsing are meloetta and stall.
It sort of depends. The expanded format right now is a rush-down meta, meaning searching for crucial cards for set up and essentially T1 (if you go second) kills are important in deciding the game. Computer Search as you stated is better for the early game which is key, furthermore, there are cards like Regidrago that essentially act as two Dowsing Machines with only discarding seven cards from your deck (which can be great). On the other hand, Dowsing Machine is great in recovering resources at any point of the game and is great in control decks.
I think there is misconception explaining rock guard. It was when you defending pokemon get hit put 6 damage counter to the attacking pokemon. Instead of attacking defending pokemon put 6 damage counter. I think the comparison should be rocky helmet instead not muscle band. But overall good video
Muscle band is the correct comparison. You’re right it’s not the same effect, but the end result is the same - more damage on the opponent’s Pokémon. It’s just damage that happens when they attack rather than when you attack - and they kind of have to attack, especially in the seismatoad mirror, otherwise they get run over.
Gold Potion? I see that card as among the worst ever (as it takes up your ACE Spec). I mean the effect doesn't sound that bad at first, but you don't often have time to use it. In all honesty, only like 6 deserve to be on here at all (that being the top 6 albeit, imo, in a different order).
It's gonna be kinda hard to find anything worse than Minion of Team Rocket and Base Set Gastly-they might even be the debatable #2 and #1 spots like the two cards on this list hahaha
It's wild to think that the two best Ace Spec cards were just no-restriction 4-ofs in the earliest formats.

Better than the old one which was effectively identical to great ball today lol
A video on the 2 piece legend cards would be great.
I second this. Such a unique mechanic, and sort of the predecessor of V-Unions.
I forgot that there even was 10

I have a feeling he wanted to say Virizion wrong but accidentally said it right.
No, he did say it wrong. I’m surprised he said Victini wrong. I didn’t know that was possible.

I do think that the dialga tinachomp deck deserves a mention for scramble Switch

Please do a video on the worst cards in the history of the Pokemon TCG.
It's been 12 years since JWittz did this, so yes, an update would be awesome!
