- For a long time, Adidas was wandering in the wilderness when it came to daily trainers. They had the cherished Ultraboost series in the early 2010s, but that slowly evolved into a casual wear shoe as newer, lighter, more responsive foams from competitor brands edged it out. And the Boston has transformed into a souped-up, dual-foam, carbon-rodded high mileage shoe. That left a gap in the Adidas lineup, which they're now filling with the new Adizero SL. Here's how it runs and who should buy it (spoiler alert: everyone).

Loving these SL’s. I love the versatility and ride. Sure, it’s a firmer ride, but once it’s broken in a bit, it’s a really comfortable shoe. I keep buying them on sale and am just going to hold onto them as a go to inbetween and all-arounder.
Can't go wrong with these especially for the price! So simple and consistent
Can i use them in 5k race in 18 min
Plzz reply
hi @@Amit-rk5hw - you can definitely race in these if you don't have or don't want a plated shoe! they're lightweight enough to run fast in for sure
Thanks! For answering my question regarding the heel
Amazing thank you!
Can't wait for the Adizero SL v2, hopefully it will have lightstrike 2.0
I know is an old version, however I just got the sl. I haven’t tried yet, but to be honest I bought this shoe bcz I was curious since few months ago. In fact I have the sl2 which is an awesome shoe. I read lot of reviews saying is as hard as a brick. In the worst case I’ll use it as a casual shoe.
Greetings from Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam.
I love this shoe. The first 20-30 miles in mine felt a little blocky. Since then this shoe just gets better and better the more miles I run in it.
Agreed! I've noticed it feels better over the course of a run as well. After a few miles the forefoot becomes a lot more flexible and snappy
I was also pleasantly surprised by this shoe. It is a great do it all shoe. I have a 5 mile race a week from Sunday, not in PR shape though looking to get back into it.
Good luck! I love using races to jumpstart my fitness
I tried them today and feet feels too warm inside, and i still like my Boston 12 over these, but gotta run more in them to find out
The age grading calculator says my near-term 5k goal is a tick over 81%. Just getting through some knee issues that limited me to Parker Valby type of mileage, but trying to eventually get back to have a shot at a 90% result in anything from the mile to half marathon. The calculator says your 1:20:00 would beat my 90% effort, haha! If you are close but haven't cleared the 1:20:00 half hurdle in January, The Naples Half Marathon course might be the fastest anywhere. And the Gasparilla 15k in Tampa has no hills and is super fast.
I've gotta check out some of those Florida courses at some point for sure! North Carolina is very hilly so all of my PRs have come on rolling hill courses
I picked these up from REI for 35 bucks and are really enjoying them. I really appreciate the solid no thrills ride, as really soft foams usually feel too unstable for me and fatigue my legs more than something firmer like these. Would you say they get a little softer and more flexible with more miles?
Yeah I have them at about 50 miles and they've softened up a bit. In my experience with EVA foam shoes like these the sweet spot is between 100 and 300 miles once they've fully broken in and you're used to running in them but before they're overly worn
Hi Yowana. These days I find myself running in energy rods everyday(Boston, Takumi & Adios P3), and was looking at the SL recently for a non plated/rod easy day shoe just to take the load off. Must say I found the SL a little to firm and flat for what I am looking for.
I then grabbed a pair of the new Duramo Speeds and was massively impressed by how well that shoe rides for a "cheapy". It feels light responsive and has a nice toe spring. Have you checked them out yet? Would like to get your opinion off them.
how long did you keep the SL? i found mine to soften up and really get enjoyable around 50 miles. and haven't tried the duramo speed yet but that's one to add to the list! I also need to check out the adistar CS, adidas' (heavy) max cushioned shoe
Right now these are at Burlington for $35
I was curious if the heel is slightly uneven? I'm hoping I didn't get a defected shoe
Yeah they built it like that. I think it's supposed to help with stability. I didn't have any problems with it though
@@supwell thank you. . I couldn't get an answer from anyone.
Im going from a NB 1080 to the SL. Not sure what to expect LOL.
the SL might be a bit firmer out of the box before it breaks in, but they are pretty similar shoes
Thanks man!! Love to hear that.@@supwell
@@supwellAt least two times firmer. So firm that even for 35$ I would prefer to avoid them and not damage my legs saving some $.
whole world cant get it for 35$ at REI....USA only.
Dang sorry to hear that! I've seen it for $65 at a lot of places so you may be able to get it for that price
@@supwell Only america gets good prices for adidas, us in europe get shafted
@@thespecialone7632 interesting. I wonder if adidas has a better brand reputation in Europe
@@supwell in general it has excellent reputation in UK
but we only get around 40% discount max
I tried them today and feet feels too warm inside, and i still like my Boston 12 over these, but gotta run more in them to find out
They definitely took some time for me to break in. But Boston is more refined and little more comfortable for me
