The #LavalierII was one of my most anticipated releases from #Rodemic
I've not been happy with how my voice sounded in the Lavalier GO I wanted more bass and a thicker sound. More like what I had when using my old Boya BY-M1 lavalier.

Do you have a favorite Lavalier?
Sanken Cos-11D is my favourite so far, but I had good experiences with Rode lav's too.
Great review! Appreciate the straight on constant using of both mics.
Thank you!
Awesome review Thomas, your video is so cinematic. I really thought your comparison was very well explained. Thanks.
Thank you Gary, glad it was helpful. And thanks for the compliments on the footage.
Fantastic review, thank you!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Thank you for taking the time to comment.
Was trying to find a good comparison video, and I found it! I was considering the Lavalier II for my motorcycle rides. After this, I think I will go with the GO version. Makes sense now haha. Thanks!
Sounds like a great choice
Will the wind protection come off during motorcycle rides?
Thank you for very good review
Great explanation, thank you!
Thank you
I have a BOYA-BY M1. Keep up the good work. You're inching closer to 1K :)
Still one of my favorites!
Inching away! 😉
Thank you for supporting me.
Super bra Tomas! Snyggt!

Thanks!
No problem!
Thanks a lot.

Thanks for this Thomas. I have a question. Which Lavalier would you recommend for being able to pick up very low frequencies, that is high quality? I don’t care about the brand - as long as it’s good quality and has a very low profile. Thank you.
Hi, are we talking about voice recording?
Often times when a person have a deep rumbly voice it's common to use a lavalier that don't pick up a lot of low end. To balance it out a bit ;)
If you're looking for an affordable lavalier with good low end and a regular 3.5mm TRS plug. I would recommend the Lavalier II or maybe the Boya BY-M1 Both of those are my two favorite lavaliers. And don't forget that you can always improve things in post.
For other applications there's contact microphones that can pick up very low frequencies.
If you're looking for more high end lavaliers I would recommend you to check out Curtis Judd on youtube - he reviews a lot of professional audio gear.
@@ThomasFransson I’ll be sure to look into these recommendations. Thanks Thomas. Appreciated!
@@TheWrittenWorldSubscribeNow Happy to help
thanks for sharing. no difference in sound. at least not easily distinguishable
Thank you
bro this video is good.
Thank you, so glad you liked it.
Thanks for the review, my main complaint with the LAV 1 GO is that it has very little shielding & therefore RF interferences has been an issue on jobs I’ve done. The LAV II is touted as having full shielding & therefore superior RF interference rejection. Have you been able to do any test along these lines? Thanks again
Interesting! I've not done any tests, but if I get the time I will.
Thank you for bringing this to my attention.
@@ThomasFransson Fantastic, well I record a podcast bi-weekly in an old museum & its one of the jobs where RF is a real issue with my Wireless GOII system, bearing in mind it’s ok with just the transmitters, but as soon as I plug the LAVs in I have real RF issues and so for the next one which is on the 31st I should have 2 Lav IIs by then & if you haven’t had time I’ll no doubt be able to do a proper A-B & I can provide you with feedback on how it went:). Yea, I’ve taken a bit of a plunge in that I’m buying the 2 without knowing if they’ll handle the RF issue, but unlike the Lav I these actually do say “Full shielding for RF interference reflection”, where the Lav I says nothing of shielding, etc.
U deserve more
Thanks
Woww that's is nice video!! I'd love to get it. But I also want to know about Synco G2A2. How about it?
Thank you, I haven't tried the Synco G2A2 so I couldn't tell you what would be the better option.
I hope you figure it out.
Cheers!
0:11, should the "safety ring" be removed for better fit since it has no function on wireless go ii? I've seen some users online remove it but then I'm concerned I might push it inside and something but break without the ring there.
Great question, I just leave it on. Keeps dirt and dust out of the threads and less chance of losing the little bugger ;)
please answer. good for singing? I have a bandlab in android it is a recording software if the microphone is also for recording singing so I would buy it
If the goal is to have an ultra compact recording set-up for your Android device it could work
(Don't forget the TRRS adapter)
The only thing that might be a concern is clipping the microphone depending on what type of music/singing. If it's very loud singing.
Is there an over-the-ear frame that will place the lav in front or beside my mouth. For commentating a game of lawn bowls I want to talk softer as I'm not far from when speaking and I don't really want the talk on the green to be pick up by the mic (sometimes they curse!)
I hear you =)
Yes, you should check out the Rode HS2 and the Rode Lav Headset depending on your budget, choice of lav and so forth.
And don't forget to get a mini furry of some sort if you decide to go with another lav than the Lavalier II that comes with one in the package.
does the quality change when using the lavalier mic directly into the phone vs into the Rode Go II?
I guess it depends on how good of a job the input on the device does. Some phones will probably sound same/better and some worse despite loss due to the wireless transmission.
The absolute best quality will be obtained with the GO II if you utilize it's internal recording feature and bypass the camera or phone completely.
There's also the added advantage of having the safety track feature if you're using the GO II - incase you clip the main channel.
But for most online use, recording on your phone will probably be good enough.
It depends on what works best for you and the level of quality your projects need.
@@ThomasFransson ok thanks this helps alot. And ur saying that that the GO II has works as an independent recording device and i can add that audio to the project file after?
@@defjam3079 Yes, that's right. You can set it to start recording as soon as turn the unit on or to only start recording when it detects the receiver.
So it can be used as a stand alone field recorder basically. Freeing up your phone for other things.
@@ThomasFransson just followed u on instagram
How does the mic quality compare to the one from Sony’s uwp d11?
If we compare the specs it's an even pull.
The Rode have a better frequency response as well being more sensitive and having a better signal to noise ratio.
While the Sony ecm v1bmp
is a bit more unlikely to clip if you’re screaming really loud. Giving it a bigger dynamic range. But unless you're really loud and scream a lot, this might not be a deciding factor.
@@ThomasFransson thanks for the detailed feedback! ;)
I record a lot in big empty garage with a lot of echo. Do you think this Lav go 2 would be better for this environment. Unfortunately lav set up is only way I can go.
If there's echo, there's usually going to be some degree of echo being picked up by the microphone. A lavalier is definitely a great choice for those situations. Your body will act like a shield or acoustic treatment for the microphone and reduce the amount of reflections being picked up by the microphone.
Even with the front facing capsule the lavalier II will probably get you pretty good results.
You could experiment with the placement and try to wear it fairly high up on your clothing.
Another option could be the lavalier Go which might offer a slightly more directional pickup pattern. But in all honesty, it's a fairly small difference between those two in that regard, and the Lavalier II takes the cake when it comes to overall sound quality.
Another option would be to find a corner in the garage where you could hang some thick fabric or blankets on the walls and maybe a cheap rug on the floor. These types of dampened V-shaped corners can work surprisingly well if you’re not happy with the results you get from the lavalier.
Sorry about the long answer, but it always difficult to know exactly what's going to be the best solution.
But a lavalier mounted close to your mouth is a great starting point. And by close maybe 2nd button on a shirt.
@@ThomasFransson thank you so much. I am actually glad for long answer as it provides helpful information. You have one awesome channel sir. Appreciate your time and effort.
@@RidersUnited Glad if I'm able to help.
Thank you for the kind words
Will the wind proof foam/fur come off during motorcycle rides?
That's a good question.
While it's on there pretty tight thanks to the little rubber ring on the furry, I may not survive a motorcycle ride.
If it was me, I'd probably add a drop of glue, just to be safe.
@@ThomasFransson would it record a lot of outside noise during a motorcycle ride if I wont attach a wind furry on it?
who is better?
rode lavalier ii vs sennheiser me2
They are both great options and will do a great job on most types of voices in my opinion. I've used the Rode far more than the ME-2 II so my opinion might be colored.
One of the things I like with the RODE is the cable lenght - it's easier to deal with and hide if you're using a wireless system. One of the strenghts with the ME-2 is that it's easier to find spare parts like clips and wind guards if you need to replace these.
Hej.
Rode Wireless Go II
Begge kan kopplas til min Wireless Go.
What's the name of the Song in the Video?
Could you give me a time stamp and I'll see if I can find it for you.
@@ThomasFransson It starts @ 5:00.
If you can't hear the difference you can probably go for the Lav go as it’s the more affordable option of the two.
@@user-wz9sw3pe4rIt's a great lave, I'm sure you'll enjoy it. I use the lav II a lot. Sounds good on most voice.
Just picked up a rode lav 2, delivered by amazon today, and it sounds terrible compared to the internal stereo mic on my GH5! Really not impressed.
Haha Wow!
@@ThomasFransson i thought this was plug and play. It obviously isn't. Any suggestions so i can use it gratefully appreciated
I've never needed to do anything fancy with it. Just made sure the mic is facing the right direction and placed on a good position on you or your talent. After that it's just dialing in the levels to make sure it’s not clipping. That and making sure you have the dialog as a mono track on your timeline.
Thanks I realise now it was clipping. Doh! Thank for that So much better now. Thanks for the help
My pleasure, i hope you'll get much use out of your new microphone
Funny. I have a 20 year old audio Technica lav with a side element design. Rode's acting like this design is something new. No offense to the reviewer
I agree, it's a quite common design for none consumer level lavaliers. But it's their first and I think for a lot of beginner creators/target market it's a rather new idea ;)
If you are going to review a microphone, you really shouldn't add background music!
Did you watch the video?
Just curious since yes, there is a couple of seconds of music bridging gaps between segments here and there. But it fades out as soon as the dialog picks up again.
There's also a dedicated A vs. B section providing samples whitout any post processing or any background music near it.
If that wasn't enough to get a perception on the differences between the two I'm sorry for disappointing you and wasting your time.
My apologies.
@@ThomasFransson And adding music even allows to hear how a specific microphone cuts through the beats. Different frequency responses might cut through specific music better.
