I'm almost speechless, this is supposed to be Surefire's flagship flashlight. I know my X300U and my G2X Pro are actually water resistant, so how did they forget to seal their lights between then and now? Thanks for helping us, the consumer, to make informed decisions with videos like these.
I recently purchased the stiletto pro 2, saw this video and had to see if it’s true. I tested mine by taking the head off and blowing air into the body with a light coating of water around the switch assembly. I saw multiple air bubbles and even felt the air. I will be returning it when I get a chance.
Absolutely you are my favorite Creator on YT. Zero nonsense. Thanks to this video, I have cured myself of buying the new Stilleto and stay with the first version, which is indestructible. I will obligatorily support you and if you are in Europe, you are cordially invited for a beer! Thank you!
@@scdub So I spoke with the customer service and he was like “why would you spend that kind of money on a special edition and then test it like that?” That’s what they count on.
Yes! He said that even though I took it apart, therefore voiding the warranty, as a curtesy, he will accept the item and they will do their best to repair it. Mighty big of them!
It’s sitting on the shelves pretty much everywhere and, considering that the Luminary is going to be sold separately soon, I made a huge $$$ mistake buying this set.
Great! Do more water testing on flashlights and I wonder if we even have any legitimate flashlights fit for scuba diving. My go to flashlight is LEDLenser P7R core and now I am doubting its IP68 rating. It a German brand but built in China. Looks solid quality built but ima test it.
@@kush662 IPX8 doesn’t have a specific depth, it just states deeper than 1 m as specified by a designer. Typically it’s 6-8 meters, but for diving it can go to 15 m or 50 ft
@@CuttingBoardRx oh absolutely not, I want to buy the newer P9R core LEP anyways, I’ve seen some videos having a throw light to 1200-1300 meters and having an adjustable flood option. LEP technology looks promising and I am excited to atleast try out the new tech.
@@CuttingBoardRx Sorry it’s been a while but I did test it and… it passed! All button functions and charging works properly. Big note, LEDLenser flashlights generally have a twistable adjustable head for throw/flood light and I was worried about that so I had mine fully retracted and locked in.

I have been a Surefire light fan for years, but they seem to have fallen well behind on innovation compared to the competition. I can buy lights that outperform the Stilleto Pro 2 for a fraction of the price. But until this, I thought their saving grace was durability. I hope this is "just" a sample defect, but wouldn't count on it.
I feel excited this and I am super curious and want to see your salt water test on the Damasteel. I am planning to buy a custom damasteel fixed blade camping and kitchen knife and I really want to know if it’s stainless enough like magnacut or cpm20cv.
@@krzkrupa I wonder if the build is different from their production run lights? Did they build it less robustly in order to meet some cost reduction requirement from Microtech?
If it matters, I've been carrying my Stiletto Pro for about 4 years, and it gets daily hard use in an industrial manufacturing/repair setting. It's been on a huge dredge in the salt, in water treatment facilities, in a machine shop covered in coolant and/or cutting fluid, and its been in a 140° shop environment, and it's been in -12°F, so far no issues to speak of, other than the outside being beat all to hell lol.
@@smnkm4ehfer Thanks for commenting! Clearly the quality control went down the toilet. I have the original stiletto that also has air leaks around the control the panel. And I ordered the regular production Pro 2. Same thing, I sent it back. Very disappointing!
I've had the Stiletto Pro 2 since it first came on the market and use it multiple times, every day. IMO it is currently the best available EDC light, in most ways; but I've long suspected it is less than waterproof. For one thing, using the charging cord produces a permanent outward bend in the flap of rubber covering the charging port, making the light penetrable to water.
@@CuttingBoardRx IMO the deficiency was so obvious that the people at Surefire must have known it wasn't watertight, even before the light was released on the market. They simply lied about it. In every other category, it's still the best performing EDC light out there. But yeah, the unsealed build is a MAJOR failing. If I needed the light to be IPX7 watertight, I'd be pissed off.
@ I think they designed it so that it would be waterproof and maybe even tested it to verify that the first dozen units was in fact waterproof, but there’s evidence, which I will show in my next video, that they 1. made wrong design decisions and 2. did not implement solid quality control measures. I say this with 100% confidence as this type of failure analysis is huge part of what I do for a living on $8M-$12M systems.
I used to be a surefire light buyer and user until I discovered functional issues such as you did with several of their products. This is not limited to surefire products as you probably already know. This is why I no longer fault anyone for purchasing goods that are not made here in the U.S.A.. Quality goods at a fair price are no longer unique to the united states. So many companies are squandering their long term reputation for short term monetary gains. As a result of this lack of engineering care and quality, I no longer care where something is made as long as it does what I want it to do for me and my purposes since it is my money being spent. How and where you spend your money is really the only thing you have control of in this global economy, buyer beware!
I do it to not support the CCP and to support American companies. The more people shift to Chinese manufacturers, the more the US market products either get more expensive, lesser quality, or shut down completely. Surefire has an amazing warranty IF you ever have an issue which is VERY rare. I sold guns and accessories for years, and of all the manufacturers we dealt with, we had less Surefire warranty returns than any other company.
@@smnkm4ehfer That has not been my experience, thus that is why I take the stance I do with products I purchase with MY money! You can continue to purchase from Surefire if that works for you.
