My mom lives in the country in Belcourt (Turtle Mountain Indian Reservation) and was issued a 911 address which is on her driver's license. Why can't the tribe make sure everyone has an address? It may not help every single person, but it might help a lot of people if the tribal government started working on that. Just sayin.

  • @patmorrisseau2811

We had the same problem here in Canada when the Progressive Conservative were in power. The First Nations, created their own streets and number them and registered those numbers with 911, local agencies and Canada Revenue Agency and within a few years our address were recognized. It took a lot of planning but, it can be and was done if you really want to vote.

Problem is not that they don't have id, it is that the IDS do not conform to the new onerous Republican regulations. Just like in red states where they will accept an NRA license as an ID but will not accept a university student ID. It is Clayton voter suppression aimed at generally Democratic voters

Indian Citizenship act of 1924. I know all about it. The federal government doesn't have the authority to unilaterally make citizens of a sovereign Indian nation or any other sovereign nation without consulting the other nation unless the other nation was conquered in war. The first article in the Old Crossing treaty with the Pembinas and Red Lakers states: perpetual peace and friendship between the United States and us.
Russia and the United States have treaties in place with each other.. if one of the parties all of a sudden declared the citizens of the other sovereign to now be their citizens there would be war.. in fact, doing so is an act of war and a treaty nullifier (setting the property and rights back to before the treaty was signed.
The highest power of a sovereign nation is to declare who its citizens are.
Indians are not citizens of the US and shouldn't be voting for state legislators. If the Indian tribes had realized this they would have had a process in place by now to deal with the federal government sovereign to sovereign dealing with all issues, not just a few issues that one of the candidates or legislators picks and chooses.
As far as I know the United States didn't consult Chief Little Shell or the succeeding tribe on thw 1924 Indian Citizenship act.
This is simple federal Indian law (which is a branch of international law) 😁

I’m not trying to be smart I’m just trying to understand how is it that the object while Chippewas have pale color skin when my great grandmother and previous and sisters all have copper color skin. Is it because you live in different parts of the country turtle Island? My family is from Wisconsin in North Dakota and they all as I stated have that brown color skin.

our tribe (along with many other anishinabae) migrated west from around lake Michigan before European contact. some stayed in Minnesota and other continued to move west to places like modern day Pembina ND and here modern day Belcourt ND. since these places are so close to the Canadian Border we came in contact with French and Scottish fur traders. They married into our tribes to show we could trust them, hence last names like Azure and McCloud being common around here and pale skin

They are Saverin they don’t have the right to vote that is part of their treaty that they signed. They are exempt from federal taxes so they’re exempt from voting. That’s the way that y’all wanted it so you can’t have it both ways. Now let’s talk about how the pale face have taken our tribes from our ancestors for them selves.

Can we step back to look and listen, key word here is these are” NATIVE” Americans. If you or your family over generations wasn’t born here, you are an immigrant or descendant thereof. They have the right to vote to decide what happens in their country. If any political party has a problem with that they should work harder to support their needs and earn their trust. I’m not sure what’s politically correct and frankly I don’t care, I’m Swedish and my descendants came to this country that welcomed them through Ellis Island with open arms in steel ships. I liked the comment by Vishal P and ncooty has a point, but I don't think voting Republican is the problem, they are not going to, maybe that's why they are having a problem to getting the opportunity to vote.

i think it is good all people vote, but it strikes me as funny that the democrats fight hard to get these people to vote because they usually would vote democratic. when are people going to help people just because its the right thing to do instead of trying to cultivate votes for one side or another.

There are states that do not require any ID to vote. In 2016, I traveled to one where I voted 32 times for Hillary Clinton, twice in one afternoon at a single polling place.
And she STILL lost the election. Next time I’ll try another state and having changed over to MAGA, will vote for Trump at least 25 times.
If you want to vote and you are in a voter ID state, just visit one that doesn’t and vote your head off.
