Turtle Mountain Youth Council

Young Chippewa in the North Dakota town of Belcourt have formed a Youth Council with tribal voting rights dedicated to creating events and spaces for children and fighting back against drug use and suicide.

These kids are great. I am very encouraged by their wisdom through introspection. Drugs and booze got me when I was young, I actually was stupid enough to think I was living a life of "personal freedom" instead of realizing I was a slave to my isolation, alienation and fear associated with being hopeless. Listening to the young man near the end describe his situation on some gravel road in the middle of nowhere, and that the council gave him perpous and direction and self confidence... I am deeply impressed. Whether we only live once or not, I dont know, but it is good to live as if we do.
