Gilbert deserves to be remembered as one of the greats not only because he was a comedic genius but because he had the balls to push boundaries, and often paid a price for it. Not many are willing to do that anymore. Rest well Gilbert and thanks for the laughs.
I don't know if you saw the episodes of 'TIL DEATH where GG played the new neighbor of Brad Garrett and Joely Fisher, but he was in rare comedic form indeed. There were some bloopers and outtakes at the end of one episode, and you could tell that GG was cracking up Brad and Martin Mull with his off-the-wall zaniness. Comedy gold.
One of a kind. His podcast is a goldmine of pure, joyous entertainment. Can't believe he's already gone.
I've only recently started to listen to those podcasts. You're right. They're good!
yeah i remember when i found it i was looking for a roger corman interview and i couldn’t believe what i’d found it was like someone made a podcast perfectly tailored to my interest and it was one of my favourite entertainers. I never knew he could sing last of the triple threats.
@@joshgable5680 One of the funniest was when he had Richard Benjamin on as a guest, and Gilbert sang the entire theme song to "Goodbye, Columbus". Not only was he an entertainer, but someone who loved the movies, television, and music of the 20th Century and was eager to share that enthusiasm with his audience.
I found his podcast a few yrs ago. Joyous is the perfect word. I’m gonna have to look up the Richard Benjamin one where Gilbert sings Goodbye Columbus. I loved the podcasts he did with Benjamin and his wife Paula. Today I listened to the one with John Astin. I’m gonna miss Gilbert. Nobody like him
@@lla788 The one he did with another great husband and wife team - Ron Leibman & Jessica Walter - is another classic, not terribly long before Ron passed (and then Jessica, and now Gilbert too).
Thought this performance was hilarious and scrolled down to read the comments only to learn that Mr Gottfried has passed away just a few hours ago. This is very sad news. So many of the great comedians, Norm, Louis Andersson, Bob Saget and now Gilbert, have all passed away in such a short time span. Thanks for all the laughs and for being such a unique performer Gilbert.
I didn't even know and it's now been a year since he passed! I loved his work.
One of the greatest stand-ups, greatest voice artists, and the all-time greatest guest on the Howard Stern show.
This appearance was my introduction to Gilbert and probably my favorite routine of all time. RIP.
Gilbert was always a great guest. He also told the best version of the joke "The Aristocrats." RIP Gilbert.
Gilbert has been around in pop culture for my entire life, and he was always hilarious. What he cared about most was being funny.
I wish there was still TV like this…completely bizarre and random with no guardrails. Late night TV is all PR stage-managed to within an inch of its life these days.
It's unwatchable.
So true. Makes the viewer’s brain look at things in a more expansive way after experiencing it
celebrities playing charades and singing
The one and only. R.I.P. COMEDY ICON.
Wish I could hear Gilbert's long drawn-out explanation of how he died.
@@NankerPhelge65 Is it too soon? ;)
Omg 😂 Imagine Norm and Gilbert in heaven explaining to each other how they died. Longest conversation ever
@@NankerPhelge65 I think he meant it sincerely and enjoys his humour but I may be wrong.
Lmao I love how it looks like he could be doing this on an empty street corner yelling at a wall
I have quoted the Ben Gazzara line since this first aired. He's so funny-great to see this again.
Love his humor, he did sketches on Leno on a regular basis, I hope those turn up on RUclips someday, RIP
Rest in eternal Peace, Mr. Gottfried.
Him saying the hot black waxx.... is the best ever🤣🤣🤣🤣
Jackie Gleason in “Casablanca”: hilarious! I don’t blame Dave for asking for an encore.
Heaven will be filled with laughter tonight by Gilbert’s humor. We were so lucky to have been able to watch a true artist perform. Rest in Paradise Gilbert.❤️
So unappreciated. He was such a great comic!!!!! HILARIOUS!! Have never seen this!!!
Remember when Norm put the paper down to watch Gilbert’s set on the Bob Saget Roast
RIP Gilbert. He made me laugh. We all need laughs.
The Ben Gazzara bit slayed me 😂
I did not know he passed, RIP Gottfried. He had an angle different from most comedians at the time and maximized that. Howie Mandel was similar in my opinion. Both very funny and unfortunately misunderstood at times. Thank you Letterman Channel-practically a history channel of the best humor and humanism that we should try our best to hold on to and maybe even perpetuate during current times.
That voice .... Hard to believe you are gone so soon, Mr. Gottfriend. Rest in peace. Nah, you'll be resting in laughter. You will be missed.
i was lucky enough to see him perform. "'What are you doing with all that hot mustard?"
I think about this set often from watching it with my friend in high school. Ben Gazara and the phone that goes flat against my face.
This is brilliant. Singular, eccentric and extremely challenging. Vale Gilbert.
RIP~ An innovative and fun entertainer and he will be missed!
Impossible to believe....in the last 7 months....Norm, Saget, Louie and Gilbert...all gone 😪😪😪😪
Very sad, I only recently discovered him and will dearly miss him.
I remember this!
Thanks Dave
Good night sweet unhinged Prince.
RIP gottfried! Another legend gone so soon
i love that voice.
"I have one of those phones that go flat against your face" how times have changed
So many great bits, so little time for Gil. 67 years was not enough.
The first time I saw Gilbert I knew he was going to make one HECK of a parrot sidekick in a Disney film.
Gilbert my hero! love him on Stern as Dracula Gottfried
Funny, funny man. There will never be another one like him. He's making God laiugh right now.
Odd and funny as you 😂Nice clip as I remember that show😂
You were pure genius Gilbert. A very painful loss.
I already miss Gottfried. Sad day. RIP
"Oh how I wish these bits had endings!"
That Ben Gazzara joke killed
Good job Don. You are lightning quick as usual.
He does great impressions
He was an oddball and we miss him
Only Gilbert could pull of the cheese joke...RIP
RIP Gilbert RIP Norm
The cheese bit was too funny.
Gandhi once wrote a book called “Hi, I’m Gandhi”
Ben had one!! Run for Your Life
I hope this guy make it in comedy
RIP Gilbert ❤️😢
Genius.
All day since I heard the news I've been thinking about the cheese with hard black wax. RIP Gilbert
RIP 🙏
thank you Gibert gorrfried rest in peace
back when comedians could change topic every five seconds lol
Gilbert Gottfried was such a weirdo as a comedian. Really funny!
RIP Gilbert
Just doesn't seem real. Rest well, you beautiful comedic madman.
Probably my failing but just could never get past the voice. RIP
RIP comedy gods pantheon adds another seat
Wow - he had material back in those days.
RIP
Have you ever heard his regular voice? You can find it by searching Howard stern show. Comedians who knew him say he never fully let down his persona
Im 60 and all my heros are passing.
"tepid cheese"👍 Hilarious! I wonder if Gilbert brought some with him, I hope so, & hope Norm, Bob & Louie have plenty of crackers waiting for him. It's all gettin' kinda strange...
RIP Gilbert. Dibs on all his soap!
I hope Gilbert shows up tomorrow and tells us it was all a joke.
I hope Artie Lange is okay and this trend doesn't continue with him. Is there a curse? Norm, Saget and now Gilbert.
I was a massive fan of GGACP. At any rate, RIP Gilbert.
Jeez - out of all the comic deaths, how has Artie survived?!?! Seems against the odds!
@@privatepenguin3137 It's all so surreal. Artie was already depressed and took a break from his podcast. This can't help. Goodness.
Rip Gilbert
Did he ever talk about Brother Theodore?
RIP ya squawker
Gilbert easily missed a good 3-4 killer jokes here.
I just read a question on Google from someone that asked: why is his voice this way? Some people just don’t get comedy. 🤷🏼♂️😂
Before I even watch the video I'm going to guess they saw and heard him and then one of them said to the other in their language "You idiot; we're supposed to be on Earth" and then they flew away.
Norm, Saget, Gilbert…
Who is left on Gilbert's level?!
I miss the guy big time.
Why does he always look like he's in his mid 40's?
I'm not laughing...
Too early champ
Groucho, why did you kill Gilbert?
Because Chico needed the money.
Gilbert will be up there offending the Almighty. Not that Gilbert will lack in material.
R.I.P. Gilbert Gottfried. As a voice actor, he was funny. As a stand-up comedian, he was...meh.
wtf
I miss triple-jabbed, "heart-condition," GAE-puppet, Gillie Gottfried, and I love the purposeful NSFW pose the not-accidentally chosen thumbnail has him in. He would love that and hate that his demise came at the price of three virtue-signaling jabs.
Dude said "Organic" in 1985 😂
Ahead of his time calling out vegans 😆
Watching these old clips I see that he wasn't all that funny.
He was never really they funny. Im glad he's gone.
Gilbert will be remembered long after his death, unlike you who will be forgotten before you even die.
@@lilrocky2640 Who's Gilbert?
@@verballyabusiveclown6290 your mom
@@verballyabusiveclown6290 Gilbert's taken aback in his grave, he'll never literally recover from this come back from this genius.
He's actually not remotely funny, he's just insidiously grating and irritating. We were brainwashed through the years to THINK he is legitimately funny, due to his Privilege and connections, but he's more like a shred of Hellfire sent to harm us.
RIP Gilbert
